I feel so sad. I just played two levels and the tutorial, 30 minutes after I gave up, and it wasn't really well fun… It felt very unpolished and there was no satisfying flow or game loop (at least put it in early access for good Pr) I can see that the level design is somewhat decent, I can see some part for what the game is going for, but the enemies and combat are just not strategic in the slightest and the movement does not feel great I really don't want to refund this game, there is something there and I can appreciate the effort and passion. I will wait and see and update my review accordingly, either IM just the dumb one here or there will actually be an overhaul at one point. If there is something I'm just misunderstanding about this game, do lecture me.

This is Yoshi's Island by style of Super Smash Brothers. A storybook style game with gorgeous 2D animation and a very catchy soundtrack. Your lovely garden has been ruined by the mysterious dark energy raining from the skies - time to put on boxing gloves and crack skulls! The easiest comparison is, again, Subspace from Smash Bros. Brawl - if it was built around a single character's move set. Every stage has tricks and jumps built specifically for your kit of normal attacks and special moves, creating a very addictive experience of mastering your character's moveset. Bounce off enemies, find special tricks to get around blocks, and generally find the best of your abilities to progress further. You don't have to be a Smash expert, but if you're experienced enough, you can destroy rooms of enemies with ease, S-Ranking combat and bouncing around platforming challenges. Then you open the time attack dev time and realize you've still got a long way to go. There are a few issues I've had so far - some stages have level design can be a little obtuse and labyrinthine on your first time through, which is a bleedover from the Yoshi's Island inspiration - but I feel like it doesn't really work that well in this game, which has a lot more speed and expression potential, to get roadblocked or accidentally get flung back to spawn with no idea why. Plus, if you try to style like Devil May Cry on every small enemy, you're going to find yourself out of energy often. It's understandable why special moves are meter limited - you'd be able to easily destroy any platforming challenge if you could use special moves every single platform - but it's definitely a learning curve to get used to. However, the art, music, gameplay, all connect into a very fun game. It's hard for me to specifically point to one thing I like the most - everything blends together well into a very charming experience that is clearly somebody's special baby of a game.
