Cavatus Reviews
The war against Professor Zor was won, but the price was high. Technologies were destroyed. Only a few ancient flying machines remain. Professor Zor might still be alive and start another war. You must prevent that!

Cavatus is a slow paced vertical shooter where you pilot aircrafts and have to destroy (mainly) ground based targets.
Fuel and gravity are your biggest enemies in this game. Every bit of acceleration requires fuel, of which the supply is limited until you refuel at either the starting airfield of a mission or the ending one, and it's easy to run out. Some destroyed buildings drop an F fuel powerup, but you cannot count on this to make it through.
Gravity and ballistics affects everything. Your aircraft is constantly dropping at a (very) slow rate, but so are enemy bullets. Your own bullets and especially bombs are affected by both your aircraft's speed and the angle at which you are flying when you fire or release.
It will take multiple attempts before you get a feel of how to angle the release of bombs, especially.
The aircrafts do not respond completely realistic. As mentioned the drop rate is very slow, but at the same time there is no uplift from cruising: if you do not accelerate, you drop.
Besides fuel, destroyed buildings can also drop upgrades for your aircraft. Some of these can be applied if you go back to base to refuel but they are only saved on completing a mission, and if you die -- and you will die -- you need to collect it all over again. Another drop will repair your aircraft, which is sorely needed as health is not restored by landing, only by completing a mission.
The game is difficult, even at the default medium difficulty suggested for a gamepad. But it does not seem unfair, it's just a matter of making it past the gauntlet most of the time, and knowing when to return for more fuel.
As you progress you unlock more aircraft, and with the upgrades eventually you get more firepower and fuel efficiency, so you can fly further. The learning curve is hard, but seems fair.
As of writing I have yet to complete the game but despite how difficult it is, I want to keep going until the end... but perhaps I will need to take this in stages. Frustration and precision flying do not combine well!
If I make it further and find more things of note, this review will be updated.
