The drift mode is awesome. Try it and find out for yourself.
My 6yo daughter loved playing it too.

Starlight brings some truly exciting innovation to the vertical scrolling shooter genre. If you are looking for a bullet hell where you can drift your ship around dodging bullets while lining up your perfect moment to drop your special, do consider this title. It has that mix of finesse and forgiving gameplay that is infrequently found together in such games. As you progress, you get to upgrade your ship for some truly mental variety of weapons options. Did I mention this has a ship editor as well?
You'd think that's all, until you try doing all this in multiplayer, drifting with friends and utterly wreaking havoc on those boss ships. Truly, this is a shooter like no other I have seen so far, and definitely worth a try.

I remember the time when i was sitting on the floor with my cousins playing games like this and not care about anything at all. This game takes me back to my childhood days, it brought smile to my face. :) Pretty nostalgic

This is complete garbage. Not because it's a bad game. Fundamentally its extremely fun. Too bad it literally doesn't work. I try to use the keyboard, the controls that the screen indicates that you should use in the menu to select things don't work. The mouse pointer can be used, but not to click things. Then when I plug in my controller, it works for literally everything except the X button. The annoying thing is that the X button worked just fine in the Demo when I was using my controller. I truly can't believe that I couldn't even quit the game. I was trying to exit the game from the game menu, and that didn't work either. Just didn't do anything. I have a Razer Blackwidow Elite keyboard, and it works just fine with everything else. I went to the discussions only to discover the developers have indicated that xbox controllers don't work, but only with the X button. This is honestly so stupid. The fact that I cant even use the keyboard is absurd. Tried setting controls to how I want them, but since the keys don't work in the menu properly, that was just not happening. I loved the game for the whole 5 to 10 mintes I played it, but then you just get stuck on the tutorial in the beginning because the X button doesn't work, and it FORCES you to do it. I'll be asking for a refund. I can't believe it's not early access either. Don't waste your money.

A retro Arcade game with great graphics, blended with the 3D in the background that beautifies the game. Some great weapons to use for starters will probably be the ones that neutralizes bullets, it will create more survivability since you can bomb some of the enemy bullets off !
I will suggest weapon testing trials so players have a better grasp of the weapons available and what suits them the most !
This game is best played with joysticks.
Great game with high value of nostalgia

Starlight caught my eye because I wanted to play something similar to the arcade games of the 90s and I got more out of it. There was a good variety of weapon choices to customise my spaceship allowing me to explore and experiment different setups. The drifting mechanic took some time to get used to but once you get the hang of it, it adds to the dynamics of the game play. Not entirely sure how it depletes and could only feel it when the ship turns back to course.
The game feels balanced in the challenge it provides and I love the visual effects that shoot em ups give. Overall a well designed and simply fun game!

A Retro Style Spaceship Shooter modernized with a twist. Drift Mode adds another dimension to the game, having to dodge for enemies coming from every direction gets you on the edge of your seat.
The Visuals, Font Choice, 4:3 Aspect Ratio and words like “Token” gives the feel like you’re playing from a large arcade machine with a joystick. I appreciate the attention to detail.
The music is what catches my attention. Enjoyable, pleasant, calming and it gets you pumped up for the next battle. It does overpower the sounds of spaceship battling.
Being able to customize your spaceship is a great plus. A touch of personalization to suit your playstyle and having to experiment and see what works best for you. I love the generous amount of gems you get which in turn gets you money to upgrade your spaceship, it’s not grindy.
The gameplay itself is challenging. Difficulty and complexity on the way these spaceships approach you build up gradually.
Overall an enjoyable well polished game to play, especially with your friends. It gets my wholehearted recommendation.

I'm not really a good schmup player, but bought this game to try it out. It's quite a good experience, although trying to dodge all the bullets gets pretty hard! Its already quite well polished for an early access game.
Good:
- Ability to upgrade the ship to customize it to my playstyle feels good
- The "drifting" mechanic seems quite novel and fun to use
- Pretty immersive sound effects makes shooting the enemies quite fulfilling
Not-so-good:
- Could improve on some of the UI/UX choices
- Pretty hard for a schmup noob like me (but luckily there's multiple lives?)

Fun bullet hell that isn't too overwhelming and allows ship customizations and a ton of weapons to choose from! The drift mode auto-pivot is fun! Not to mention the editor to make your own custom ships from scratch! Love the game's retro look and feel too.. Please try this, especially if you are a fan of airplane shooters.

Being absolute wood finger ( and eye), when playing bullet hell games I were bit doubtful how'd I do, but despite there being lot of lot of bullets ( specially late game), the lower difficulties in this game are actually doable for butter fingers like me, AND you can change stuff like credits and lives on menus so it makes things easier for us casuals.
PROS :
- Drift mode, man this is fun, max this on spot, you want to keep this up as much as possible. ( let's you move about auto targeting stuff on any direction of map vs the usual forward aim)
- Save and exit as well as continue mode ! you can leave game and return where you were =)
- Looks neat enough, not mega budget game, it shows on some bits but the graphics are
pretty decent specially on ship designs.
- lot of customization stuff ( I love the lives and continues bit)
- Lots of weapons and money is easy to get so you can upgrade and swap weapons pretty easily.
- Ships are different enough, some have side weapons, others can get back turrets, so on, they feel different enough. Ultimates as well, one reflects back bullets, one absorbs them, one turns you flaming immortal fireball and so on.
-Shield and absorb mechanics help a lot if you don't have expert reflexes.
- Long for a shooter.
-Content editor, you can make your own ship !
- tutorial can be skipped
CONS:
- Upgrade shop ui takes time to get used to, specially exiting shop.
- Hit box is, really, really, really, hard to find if you are half blind owl like I am, took me demo + full game to figure out first ship's hit box is just cockpit.
- Gets confusing at times.
- A lot to clear on one seating, as harder difficulties get intense, fortunately there's a save feature.
-tutorial on every new game.
I played the demo ( first 4 stages) trough multiple times so things were familiar to me, but you definitely need to keep attention on load screen text, to figure out stuff.
Yeah, I'd say buy it if you want to try a bullet hell that is as forgiving as you let it be, plus based on how this dev handled their first game I'd say the game is just going to improve !
For this price ? worth it to me at least, specially since arcade mode is pretty long and campaign is not even released yet.
Edit : bit of tip, game saves at start of the stage, so even if you game over, you can continue from that spot with credits/lives/money you had start of the stage, this helps you a lot if your weapons are horrible for current stage ( I look at you shield generators ;_;).
Ps : Avast gives this game false positive on launch, don't know about other antiviruses, I know for sure though, that the game exe is not a virus so just heads up.
Edit : original review in 17 feb 2021, correction on 28 march. There were no remote play together on 17th, dev implemented it last week, Jeremylee always listens to suggestions, that is what you sign up for with this game =)
