A more than worthy sequel to Kathy Rain. Very creative puzzles, great voice acting and very clever puzzles. Runs on just about everything and the artstyle is something to behold

Gorgeous art, outstanding voiceovers and a gripping story. Also great soundtrack. On the easier side, which seems to be the trend lately. Felt a bit too handholdy at the start, when it forces you to find all the clues at one place and then end the day before you can get out exploring. But it's not dissimilar to the first game. And while I love point & click adventures, I have little patience for getting stuck.

Awesome game! I played the first Kathy Rain game years ago, and while I enjoyed it, I strongly prefer this one. Better art and more detailed cut scenes not to mention better puzzles, a longer story, and a lot more lore. The game just has this supernatural noir flavor that just gives it that umpf, just love how the game felt, and the energy it gave. I hope one day we will get lucky enough for a third Kathy Rain!

The game was pretty good and at the very least, worth the money I think. I was really looking for a game like the Nancy Drew games by HER and this felt similar to Gabriel Knight, which I also enjoyed. There's some annoying tropes and stuff but overall its fun as an adventure game. I thought the puzzles were a little weird. the ones that were easy were so easy that it more just felt like only an adventure game, and then the ones that were hard were tedious seeming enough that I just chose to use the walkthrough and skip them. I thought the art and sound and all that was pretty top tier and cozy. i never got to play the first game, so the end plot was kind of annoying at first because it seemed random and confusing, but by the very end i was reinvested. I think the length was reasonable. I would not say this is one of my fav games, but I'm glad I played it and i will likely play any future games released in this series if there end up being more.

A genuinely fantastic sequel that is tied with the first as some of the best point and click games ever and maybe one of the best. Some sections are difficult, I'll concede, but the rest of the game makes up for it. I slightly prefer the first game but the second game is genuinely spectacular.

Fun point and click game. More polished than the first one. Still feels old-school, a good thing.

I finished this game in just a couple of days because I couldn't stop playing, and now I'm having serious withdrawals. I really liked the first game, but I LOVED this one. It's a worthy sequel that improved upon the first in every way. The pixel art is gorgeous, the voice acting is incredible, and the soundtrack is so good that I've been listening to it in my own time. But let's talk about the story. This game is so well-written. The groundwork is laid early on for twists that come later, so you're not taken completely off-guard but you're surprised in a good way. The character development is incredible, with the friendship between Kathy and Eileen being a particular standout. It's expanded upon and truly touching in this game, and I really like how complex both Kathy and Eileen are as people. It's particularly interesting to see a Christian character written as more than just a caricature, with Eileen being open-minded about Meadow's Wicca practices and things like that. There's one particular scene with Kathy and Eileen that nearly had me crying. The atmosphere is just impeccable. The devs built a captivating city with detailed locations and its own interesting history that plays into the story. It really has a distinct sense of place, and I loved every new screen, from Kathy's cozy little apartment to the Gazette offices to the Club of Hearts and everything else. The horror elements were VERY effective as well, causing me to literally gasp at times. I was able to solve all of the puzzles on my own without consulting a walkthrough. They might be a little on the easy side, but a couple of them had me stumped for a while. They're not over-the-head difficult either, but some of them require thinking outside the box, which I appreciated. I loved looking through the newspapers, documents, and computers. That kind of tangible stuff is always my favorite in adventure games. I felt so many emotions while playing this game, and it kept me completely engrossed the entire time. I didn't want it to end, I'm sad that it's over, and I would absolutely love more games set in this world with these characters. This will go down as one of my favorite adventure games of all time.
Kathy Rain was an Excellent Point-and-Click Adventure Game, Now it is an Excellent Series
The series maintains the focus of the original, focusing more on mystery than comedy. The comedy it does have is centered more around sarcasm and cynicism/self-deprecation, but by no means is the game bleak. Everything from the characters’ emotions, plot and topics are played with a great deal of sincerity. Most heavy and emotional themes are still only explored on a surface level in favor of investigation and solving the case. Kathy Rains shines particularly in its logical puzzles, great combination of genre/atmosphere with gameplay, core cast.
The nitpicks
Related to the story, so while vague, will keep it in spoiler.
I do not like how overt the supernatural elements are in the later parts of this game/for the resolution of the game, where there is no ambiguity about whether it is otherworldly shenanigans or hallucinations. Sure, I am a lover of fantasy and sci-fi, and it is not a big deal, but I hope future installments will move away from that aspect. Mostly because the majority of the game feels very grounded.
The game has a few time-sensitive/action-oriented moments, but that is sadly common for the genre, despite it clashing with the gameplay. They are very brief and
primarily near the climax of the story.

A great plot/atmosphere for the genre
There’s a serial killer on the loose, and Kathy is going to stop them! That might sound like it is a bit too action packed for a point and click adventure title, and I was surprised Kathy became a private investigator instead of a reporter.
However, we are talking a serial killer that drops one to two bodies per month, so not like we are expecting a body to drop just because we take extra time to follow leads.
The story’s slower pace and lack of immediate urgency fits well with the gameplay and I hope that the developers will continue in that vein going forward.
Logical puzzles
The puzzles are all logical, and it is easy to find out what you are trying to do, particularly helped by Kathy’s note taking throughout the game. Did that mean I never looked up guides? No, but that was mostly because a few places require you to either juggle a lot of info, and I do not like writing stuff down, or you had to fill something out in free text, so I wanted to be sure the wording was correct. Though the free text had another far more- direct solution too.
Characters: Kathy is a star.
I adore Kathy Rain. She may at times be a b-word, particularly when she is self-destructive, manipulative, or just a bad friend. But she is a complex character, who hides her pain behind a smile and sarcasm, trying to deal with her fricked up life the only way she thinks she can. Not necessarily seeing the support she has around her for how genuine it is. Our two archetypes in biker-girl Kathy and her goody lil’ religious friend have grown up to very complex women. Kathy even gave up those nasty smokes and got herself a cat. And yes, you can pet her, as you can see in the screenshots for the game. Some -not all- of the side characters are very much archetypes/stereotypes, but that is to be expected for a point and click game of this length, where some are only relevant for a few puzzles, so to be distinct, they must be instantly recognizable. I do not know if Kathy is my favorite protagonist within this genre, it probably depends on the day. But she is certainly up there along with characters such as April Ryan and Zoë Castillo. I might nitpick at the story and other aspects, because I’m a cynical jerk at times, but if I am being fair, I’d probably buy into any story as long as they kept Kathy as the main character.
