****I do not recommend this for $50**** Grabbed this on sale because I can see a lot of potential in it. You can already throw together a really nice scene in a few minutes and the scenery and atmosphere can look really good. The title screen says it is in Beta, but it feels pretty Alpha. You can do far more with tabletop simulator right now for $20. Features I'm hoping for: -Importing models for scenery and minis/steam workshop -A fog of war that is far more customizable and user friendly that what is in tabletop sim -Better looking/less clunky UI -Generic music tracks for different scenarios This has the potential to be huge if they keep the "only the GM buys it" model. Getting more people into tabletop RPGs and buying it to run their own games. Fingers crossed the devs stay with it.

I would rate this programme. It is obviously still in Early Access still and I am a new dungeon master (DM) which means I am probably bias with how flashy this comes across. I DM online (with a group of friends that are located in different cities) and primarily use this as a world map "top world/view/map (can't remember what it is called)" and use the "battle map" for creating townships and combat arenas. I definitely do not use the bulk of the functions and the availability of models (animals, certain races etc) is still limited. I use the screen share option on Discord because this is what we use for our DnD group voice and text channels. It appears that the Dev's are working on a multiplayer update but I probably will not use this function anyways. I am certainly looking forward to the introduction of more terrains, models, and options in general. I bought this during the summer sale but I would say that this is worth full price. If you have any questions about this programme, feel free to ask :) If I don't know the answer, I will jump on the game and try it out or I will just say "I don't know".

An excellent Software for Gamemasters ready to work a bit to create more impressive maps for their games, that aren't just 2d and top-down. The engine is versatlile, easy to learn and use and allowes for impressive maps if you're ready to invest a bit of time. Definitely a recommend from me to any GMs who want to make cinematic and impressive maps without spending half a thousand dollars on props.

This is a great tool for GMs! You will have so much customization you can build any world you imagine and then bring your players into it. Easy to use great tool and fun way to enjoy role playing games. Also helpful when we cant meet in person keeps everyone on the same page no arguing over rules great tool 10 out of 10!

Game shows a lot of promise. As of right now it’s all for show and there’s no way you can actually play DnD with it unless all the players are in the same room or you use something like roll 20. But once they add ways to let players roll die and control minis then this will be amazing. EDIT: They did it boys, they added a very nice system where you can roll in chat but then even add the result as either healing or damage making for quick combat. Amazing software for a DM.

This program has potential, but it's just too difficult with a few issues to be useful or for me to recommend in it's current state. There are alternatives out there, some free, that may not look as good as this, however, they function quicker and easier. As a GM, I want something good but simple and quick. This will provide a good end result, however the time and effort it takes to get there is not worth it. Could use some more tutorials as the learning curb is quite high, even simple navigation can be difficult. Also more basic items/structures, simpler placement, and an undo button would save a lot of effort.. After fiddling around for almost 2 hours, I just wasn't content with the process or the result, and thus refunded. I will keep an eye on it though, as I said, I see the potential, and it could be very good and useful, however, right now, I don't feel it's helpful or worth it.

The idea is great. But currently, do not buy this. Simple things like an "undo" button do not exist. Placing walls takes forever and a half, because for some reason, you cannot just mass spread walls. Misplace a wall? Well time to start over. There is no delete button for terrain.

The tile painting tools are aggravating because the lowest brush size almost fills an entire square/hex usually spilling into the nearby tiles. If an option to snap to tiles was available that would be appreciated. The shift+f didn't work to fill the whole area, but just holding Shift I was able to fill by dragging an expanding box The colours in the tile selection are slightly off and not what i was expecting when I placed them. The prop placement is also kinda wack, you must place the object as is before being able to rotate it and there is no selection tool, i was constantly adding more when i was trying to select the first. (trying to fence an area, using fences from misc.) I added a light source in the wrong place but i cannot delete or move it. I do see this as a good tool that I will continue to try and use as it develops and leaves early access.

For starters: I know this literally just came out and is in its beta. Props: The props for the most part look really good. I'm really impressed with the variety of items you can already place and can't wait to see what will get added in the future. A few items are buggy in the environment. Some like bedrolls "sink" into the ground on certain tile types. Environment: The program gives you plenty of options to really take advantage of the atmosphere. You can add tons of effects, such as fog, weather conditions, lighting options, backgrounds, the list goes on and on. I love these features and feel like they're actually the most fleshed out part of the entire tool. Interface: Although I've seen other people complain about the interface I think it's ok, it just takes some getting used to. There are definitely some functions I would like to see, like an undo function. Map Exporting: Overall a nice tool, especially for making 3D maps, but exporting the maps at 2D is not that great with larger maps. This is what bugs me the most at the moment. The 3D maps are beautiful but don't really translate well into a standard roll20 game or what have you. Exporting a map in 2D basically just takes a screenshot and looks kinda bad. Maybe this would be different if someone was using a 2k+ monitor, but not at 1080p. It would be really cool to be able to export the entirety or a section of the map at a chosen resolution. Overall Opinion: I think that Game Master Engine has a lot of great potential. I love the way it looks and the assets that are already available. I think that if the developers stick with it they can make a really cool tool for DMs.

As a DM I see great potential in this tool, however, it is a still a bit glitchy and awkward to use. I am going to stick with my current tools for now, however, I am going to come back to it after a few updates to see how it improves and I would recommend trying it out to see if it's a good fit for you. Looking forward to seeing how it improves over time.
