Abandoned, this game had so much potential but the devs gave up.

the game seemed like it would be quirky and fun but is kinda dull.
nothing funny other than a few quips and nothing cool or hilarious ever happens, fighting is repetitive and the missions i've done so far are boring.
it is very poorly optimized as well.

I had the feeling this game was made by aussies but things seemed a little bit...off. Looked up the devs and they're kiwis. Makes sense, but how dare you co-opt our emu war heritage!

First thing, this was a fun game with some good humor about the late stages of US capitalism. I played through the whole main story and got all achievements. The music was great and the game played smoothly with no bugs outside of some minor graphical/physic objects that you kind of expect in these open world games.
There are some things that do seem undeveloped in the game though. The research table that you unlock in the story doesn't have many unlockables to research, the side hustles are not implemented in the badge requirements and are just off to the side after you unlocked them, and the homies you can bring are only needed for the three takeover jobs. Also the Odd Jobs that you unlock after the main story could be more involved rather than collecting 3 apples or carjack a car; maybe some way to replay missions or something would have been a good addition too.
I have not tried the multiplayer so I don't know if that implements other gameplay features so take that with a grain of salt.
I do hope to see what other games they will develop down the line though and if it has this quality I still will have fun playing it.

Some caveats before the actual review. There's a lot of complaints about the game crashing, but when I read into those comments, its somebody running a decade+ old build. I shouldn't have to explain to anyone why pcs that old would struggle with games made this decade. That being said, my build is a little over 3 years old, and this game hasn't crashed once, even with running WeMod to see if I actually could crash it (zooming around at x10 speed and x5 jump hasn't gotten old yet uwu).
That being said, this game is pretty much abandonware. The last major update (along with the last post on X) was October of 2024, and the link to the devs site does not work, which is sad cause this game had a lot going for it.
The story is unfinished, and what story there is, is pretty what you'd expect from an indie game trying to do Saints Row 2/3. Even in this state, it's still a better spiritual successor to those games than the actual Saints Row reboot. The customization options for places you buy are pretty solid, and the minigames are alright, though I imagine playing multiplayer with friends would make the chaos all that more entertaining. I do wish that I could own all the cars, but not being able to own the supercars plays into the idea that the character is flat broke, and I imagine if the game ever did get picked back up, they would've added the ability to buy all cars at some point.
Graphics wise.... eh, it looks like an indie game. It has style, there's cohesive art direction, but I don't blame anyone that can't get passed how the game looks, especially the goofy ahh character models.
The combat is, again, a lot like Saints row... there's melee and throwables, along with some goofier weapons. The Ranged weapons just don't do it for me though. They're kind of few and far between, and since melee weapons like tree branches are so readily available, I just found it easier to use a branch til it breaks then use the donkey kick / uppercut combo to knock out enemies and take whatever melee weapon they drop. There's boss fights that require more effort than that, and while they're good, they just remind me how the story just isn't finished.
The achievements don't work properly, I've beaten the third boss but do not have the achievement for some unknown reason. Plus whenever I reopen the game it resets the first two boss achievements, so if you care about achievement hunting, definitely something to watch out for.
All in all, I sadly have to give this game the most begrudging thumbs down I've ever given a game. It's a good game, but it's unfinished, and abandoned. As much as I want to overthrow the mayor (Who definitely doesn't look and act like Tim Walz) That unfortunately looks like it'll never happen.
