Voyeur Reviews

In Voyeur, you take on the role of a private investigator hired to collect evidence of wealthy CEO Reed Hawke’s corruption by a member of his family. Originally released on the Phillips CD-i back in 1993, it was one of the first games to fully utilize Full-Motion-Video as an integral game mechanic.

I enjoy quirky, original games... and I especially love FMV. Voyeur scratches the itch for both. Recommended.

Works Great! FMV point and click game from the 90's. Crazy story, played a lot when I had it on CD-I.

voyeur is a cheesy interactive movie (my favorite tautology) from 1993, originally released for cd-i, then on pc in 1994. it's kinda like hitchcock's rear window, except your leg isn't broken. the game involves finding out juicy secrets about some definitely shady businessman and wannabe-president (sounds familiar?) and his family. it's not a simple decision-based movie, more like a dumbed-down point & click adventure. 1st-person perspective, you're in your own room across the street, can decide which room of the mansion to peek into (or listen in, as there might be something going on even if the view is blocked), re-watch footage and gathered evidence on the tv, which also provides some background at the beginning. when you have proof of hawke's dirt (he's the businessman), you can call the cops or send the tape to whoever's in danger, or do nothing and watch the world burn. multiple playthroughs are encouraged, as usual, especially since there isn't a lot you can do in each 'time period' before the battery of your clearly cheap camera runs out. the game is timed, you have an in-game weekend to snoop around. a playthrough takes about 30-40 minutes, but everything happens in real-time, so it's one of those 'be at the right place at the right time' situations, similar to night trap from around the same time, or more recently something like don't feed the monkeys (sans fmv). obviously no scene skip, but you can enter and exit on-going conversations anytime to find more relevant info. the person in danger is also randomized at the beginning of each run. the game doesn't take a break on its own, no pause between 'chapters' or the end of the day and no saving at all, but at least the timer and any goings-on are paused while you're in your room. no settings or subtitles and the original resolution is 640x480, so don't expect high definition anything. this 'remaster' runs through dosbox and offers 720p and 1080p on startup, but it just means a bigger dosbox process. and like everything dosbox, it goes back to original size on alt+tab, gotta press alt+enter for full screen after. even if it had nudity, which it doesn't, it'd be hard to make any of it out among all the pixels. still, there's a parental lock feature (the code is in the manual) because women in lingerie is literal porn, as we know. due to its very nature I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would've if it were a non-timed affair (or x actions per time period, the clock only cosmetic), replays are tedious too after a while, like any fmv without scene skip, but it's fun for what it is if you're not against pixely video. the price for a 30-year-old game is not great even during a rare sale, but it's not like there are a million of these, especially the older ones. 2 questions remain: why isn't this on gog? and why isn't voyeur 2 anywhere? played this when it came out but never the sequel, would very much like to.

This is a point and click game where you are searching for incriminating evidence against a future president and you do this by filming his mansion from a neighbor building. You then can pick a window you want to take a closer look at with your camera to see some details in the room or view a very bad video sequence, which may be of importance. However, the time is ticking and spying into one window will cause you to miss, maybe important details of another, and missing a sequence in this game will cause another sequence to never appear, so it's really trial and error all the way through. If you can pick it up for 2$ and you have time to spare, go for it.
