This game is gorgeous! And I can't say enough good things about the music and sound design. The gameplay is quick, responsive, and challenging. I still haven't beat the first boss but I'm excited to see what lies beyond.

Beautiful and completely unplayable for me. For some reason right now this game only shows 8 reviews and no overall score, which I thought was crazy considering the trailer. Only after buying the game did I realize if you scroll down there are actually 20+ reviews and they are mostly negative. Not sure why that isn't reflected at the top. Immediately after launching the game I got locked into a cutscene and have so far found no way to open a menu until that painfully slow cutscene ends. When I finally gained control of the character it immediately started running across the screen with no input from me and I still couldn't seem to get a menu to pop up. At this point I still thought maybe it was an issue with my controller or something so I hit alt-f4 and restarted the game. After relaunching it I still got caught in the opening cutscene. This time the character didn't start running across the screen immediately after it ended and I managed to open the menu. Imagine my surprise to discover that the menu is either completely broken or they have just brazenly ignored all common sense and convention when it comes to navigating it. I could not for the life of me figure out how I was meant to navigate this thing. I only managed to get to different screens after spamming every button on my controller trying to figure out how it worked. At this point I gave up on the menu and just decided to try moving along in the game, but the controls there were equally confusing and immediately frustrating. I have never seen a game look so polished on the surface and then fail so miserably at the absolute basics within 2 minutes of opening it. I should honestly just refund it, but looking at how much work must have gone into making it and then seeing it fail so hard just makes me sad for them. I hope they can and will try to fix these issues because I want to see what this game has to offer. Maybe I'll try again some other time.

Doko Roko is beautiful. It speaks to me in a way only a few games can. It's like a dream I never want to wake up from. A wonderful action roguelike with killer presentation. If you're playing on controller, turn up the deadzone and add a spacebar binding with steam input for the continue screen, and that's pretty much all the bugs solved.

It's pretty fun to run and slash enemies. The art and music is very very good. And the bosses are fun to fight. Admittedly though, it does feel pretty bare bones to what I expected the game to be. As far as I know, you can't save and there isn't any progression outside of runs. It does feel unpolished in some aspects, like the controls and levels. But I'm fine with it. I'm more happy that it's been released now and I can play it. I think anyone who was interested in this game should give it a shot.

The game is a bit too esoteric for my liking. Difficult, nice graphics, no save feature. Grinding for tougher weapons is a bit boring. There is absolutely no direction towards going to the next level, where the boss gate is, no significant exposition... Dying will cause you to restart the game. A bit too harsh for my liking.

The music and art are good. Those are its only redeeming qualities. Controls are very floaty, there is no pause menu - you can die when talking to NPCs or in the escape menu, there are no checkpoints, and the gameplay becomes repetitive especially given the lack of checkpoints. I waited 7 years for this.

I played Doko Roko from start to end and I enjoyed the game. I know the game has flaws and the game is not mechanically deep, but I still feel like it’s a good game. The aesthetics of this game is on point. Some of the levels can get a little bright, but I can assure you they all look amazing. The Inventory management and decision making are there as well, but there aren’t a variety of choices to make. The choices revolve around picking swords and thinking about what will you use them for: Fighting the boss or Farming in the world. At this point in time the game has some visibility issues. It can get bright and it sucks, but Doko Roko isn’t “Unplayable” as people claim. Try Doko Roko and you might be able to see what I see for potential this game has. Fun Fact even the dev has seen my video likes what I suggested. If you need more convincing consider watching my review too. Play the game, give Doko Roko a try. Video: https://youtu.be/E9jbxiJs6Es

I really, really hate to leave a negative review because I know this project has a ton of love poured into it and it's aesthetically gorgeous, but there's just something about it that doesn't click. As it stands the gameplay is just too shallow, not to mention gamepad is nearly unusable. No matter what controller I use, the character will just sprint to the left. It doesn't seem to be a drift issue, either. There's something in there that's super cool and interesting, but it's buried under a somewhat barren gameplay loop, gamepad issues, and simple combat. Maybe in the future I can come back to it and feel differently or some tweaks can be made to really add to it, but right now it just isn't engaging enough.

Doko Roko is an amazing roguelike with fast paced combat. The art style and music are brilliant! Playing it for the first time was a challenging, but great experience. Simple gameplay but definitely hard to master. I just wish there was an easy mode with checkpoints on each level as it really is difficult for me to get better at it! I hope this game gets the attention it deserves! Congratz on the launch!
