I am really happy with Crashlands 2. I think they managed to make a very similar game, but also very different. The first crashlands mainly focused on exploration with less of a focus on story. The map was very big and very open, you just chose a direction and set off. Crashlands 2, takes the opposite approach, it focuses much more on story and gives you a much more focused approach. I feel the gear is much more fleshed out, giving you multiple weapon builds, which may add repeatability. Although I don't mind the insight (research) system, there were several times where I was stuck waiting for research to finish before playing the game, which was a bit annoying, but it does give you a chance to explore the map and look for the remaining juice jems you might have missed. The game also has a wide variety of pets which is interesting, however they are another sit and wait mechanic as the pets take time to hatch. Again not a game breaking problem, but really annoying if you want to move on to the next pet, and the game tells you to "hurry up and wait". However, all these things aside, I likely only waited 3-4 minutes in my 14.5 hours of gameplay so not bad at all compared to other games. The grind isnt as bad as the first game, as long as you keep up with the research, but you can kind of get stuck grinding if you do fall behind in research. Tons of options for base building/house building and decorating. Overall highly, highly recommend, I am what I suspect is about 50% through the game at 14.5 hours, so I would suspect to get around 25-30 hours out of the game total, so think that is very fair for the price.

Clunky, tedious, repetitive copy + paste mess. Avoid this junker unless deep sale

This game is a delight. It is so nice to be able to play a crafting game with so many things to discover and unlock but no annoying inventory management. The combat is tight, more challenging than I expected. The map is huge and just packed full of stuff to find. Plays like a dream on steam deck but my favorite feature is that I can also play on my phone on the train to work.

Crashlands 2 is about smashing everything in sight, collecting thousands of resources, and crafting them all into armour, weapons and furniture. I bought this instantly as I really enjoyed the first one and it's a great candidate for the Steam Deck. I hadn't realised until I looked back at the images of Crashlands 1 how far this game has come; it's really leaps ahead of it's predecessor. Collect everything, do loads of quests, raise pets and build a base. Story and writing are excellent, combat is pretty good - resource gathering is grindy. Pros - The dialogue is actually entertaining - There are NPCs that move in with you. They have things they ask for like specific furniture or room sizes etc which increases their research speed - NPCs research things for you; new recipes, more loot etc - There are lots of different workstation types - You find eggs in the world which you can hatch into combat pets. Like the NPCs, they also have requirements for their room while they hatch - So. Many. Quests. The game is really quite long (finished in 40 hours) - and I found the quests and dialogue interesting throughout - There are dozens of different items and materials to build your base out of - There are 6 different kinds equipment (electric, void, poison etc) which you can mix and match, and have set bonuses to fit your playstyle - Plants and different species interact with each other, often allowing you to get them to fight each other (if you have the patience and don't just smash them all) - The Void storyline is so good. Cons - Extremely grindy for materials. It gets worse as the game goes on - in the later areas you need hundreds of materials to build some of the items - Regularly stutters or hits 45fps on the Steam Deck, which is annoying considering how simple it is. This did become less noticeable over time - Building things on the Deck is pretty annoying. The cursor moves too quickly and the game is on a diagonal grid, which made doing any kind of base building difficult - Using Right Trigger for everything instead of A is weird - You can’t view your inventory, which is mind boggling for a game primarily about collecting loads of resources. The only way I can know if I have enough of something is by pinning a recipe. And I can only pin a recipe if I'm at my main base, because otherwise you can't see the crafting menu - Movement speed is too slow. It gets slightly better over time, but still feels slow - There are skill points scattered throughout the map to upgrade your suit's skills - although they usually feel pretty lacklustre like "+10% fishing" or "+6% strength"

By far one of the best sequels I have ever played. Literally everything from the original game was improved upon, In so many different ways, with receptive dev's that are still actively changing systems to better suit what players want. I first played on 1.1, and can say that the changes made with it (Pet rework primarily) pretty much got rid of any real critique i otherwise would've had if i played on release. Some of the many improvements below Limited top-down prospective -> True isometric prospective that better suits depth and detail Infinite gen maps with very sparse set pieces uninteresting to explore -> more intentionally designed maps packed with secrets that vary in numerous biomes within one of the games three region. Don't starve esc click combat -> more interesting combat that has your attacks working the same way as enemies. Obtaining pet eggs as a random drop -> unique conditions and more personal obtainment methods for each Hatch Eggs by making nest and waiting -> building challenges that add a bit of flavour Enbiggen pets through just resource dumping -> fulfill unique objectives and conditions for each unique pet (while controversial, I actually do prefer weapons not having random aspects. so i'm glad of that change) Walls, floors, everything just follows a pretty basic tile system that doesnt even connect -> Actually really engaging building that looks SO much better than 1's form of 'buildings' Im still only within the first region doing my first playthrough in legend mode, and I'm having the time of my life. While this game won't be everyones thing, and while it probably won't be too popular, at the end of the day. This is what I think of when I think of my love and adoration for Indie.

I loved Crashlands 1 a whole lot; it's one of my favorite games! Crashlands 2 is a worthy successor. The art is beautiful, the writing is just as funny and heartfelt, and the adventure is a blast. I especially appreciate that you can switch between PC and mobile (though Steam thinks I've played for 3 hours when it's actually closer to 20 hours) because then I can chill on the couch with Flux and friends.

I liked the first game and was reall keeping an eye on this seqel after really liking the demo. But somehow couldn't catch me like first one. One of the problems is resource management. Both game pretty much same on systems but in first game; it was easier to collect loot. Pretty much never had to gring for materials. But this game Too much grind for spesific items. Even without stat maxing. Story is stil shitty. Just click continously then check in mission log what they want from me. Liked for a while but somehow they did a smaller game than a old mobile game. One thing I like is art style and way enemy attack areas so you can dodge by staying in spesific spot. Edit: Actually I played a couple hours more and decided I was kinda overanalyzed. Game is fun but I was expecting something bigger.

not really a fan of games that make you press the same button repeatedly for absolutely no reason. Why do i have to click craft 5 times to craft an item? this doesnt make any sense. Other than that the game seems alright but they are trying to achieve humor but it just doesnt seem funny to me. Not saying its a bad game but just not a game I care to play because of just silly things that make no sense and the dialogue is....not entertaining. Again doesnt seem to be a bad game but I'm just not interested in any of what this has to offer.
6/10 Not recommended
TL;DR: Not a terrible game by any means, but it gets stale quickly. A step down from the first title.
Story
The game is drowning in unnecessary dialogue. Every character insists on dumping walls of trivial text to make a joke, sometimes like 40 pop-up boxes per conversation. It becomes annoying so fast, you will end up skipping most of it. Every NPC could lose 50%+ of their dialogue and still would probably too much. On the other hand, the item descriptions are short, witty and actually entertaining. That’s the tone and length the game should have stuck with.
Gear & Progression
It is very shallow. There are only 4 weapon types I have found and 3 of them behave basically the same (fast DPS with poison/electro/bleed) and then one unique hammer you can find. That's it. There are some consumables like bombs and spears but why bother. There are no guns, no thrusting/poking mechanics, nothing to diversify combat. Armor and weapon progression is utterly boring, linear and gated. Only exception is the hammer, which upgrades via a unique quests. Trinkets offer minor +5% stat boosts and together with your weapon and gadgets form a set that give a thmeatic bonus (bleed damage increase, get static charge buffs etc). Again, the only remotely interesting exception is the hamme set, which gives you a unique effect.
World & Quests
Basically you have one big map that is divided into zones. Once you progress the story and beat a boss, you unlock a new set of zones. It is at this point where I stopped, because it has the same enemies in just another color and there are only 4 different enemies I encountered and you fight every one basically the same. Dodge out of attack-indicated area, hit, repeat. Crafting turns into a chore rather quickly. You just need way too much stuff and have to collect everything by hand. Want to craft a support pillar (of which you need at least 4 for a single room), well that is 23 lumber PER PILLAR. It is tiring. Your quest log is also very vague for some very niche mechanisms. e.g. you have to bait an enemy, let it jump on particular trees, then use a consumable jug item and collect what drops - how is that fun when you need so much of this stuff so you have to repeat it so often?
Controls
I started playing with a controller and it is way too clunky to be worthwhile. Wanna shoot a grenade? You have to EQUIP it by pressing a button, THEN you can use the "USE" button which then launches it. Why can't this be just a button press?! This makes using most of your ability items very clunky and unintuitive. There even are some self-buff items that behave like that, so why not the rest? I switched to keyboard + mouse, which helped slightly thanks to the extra keybindings, but the gameplay loop remains awkward. See a rock? Press pickaxe-keybind and then use the use-button. See a tree? Press axe-keybind and then use the use-button. See an enemy? Press the weapon key-bind and then use the use-button. Every item needs to be bound individually. There is no radial wheel and the mouse-wheel cycles though your combat gadgets as well. It's a puzzling design decision. It would be fine if you could focus on just collecting wood or rocks or fighting, but you always need everything and the resources are spread out and there are aggressive enemies EVERYWHERE, so you have to constantly swap. PS: Please disable the pet attack indicator. It serves no purpose whatsoever, but adds so much visual clutter.
