I adore this game, the mechanics are wonderful, its an amazing platform fighter and would be a great ESPORT if done right. However that's the issue, it hasn't been done right. Everything gameplay wise is stellar, however content and monetization wise its a fucking joke. All 12 characters have unique and interesting mechanics, and the dashing, cancelling, and burst allows for many unique interactions but that is the extent of the content outside of a MID time trial mode, a horrible excuse for a "tutorial/story" that barely teaches the mechanics and a "DLC" purchase that u essentially have to purchase in order to play the game. Sure you can use the lab but in order to play online u need to give a premium 25 dollar payment for online so u can queue into the same 6 people, and have poor custom lobbies that crash whenever someone spectates.
This game unironically would've been a better release if they released it free with the online, and added micro-transactions. Yes micro-transactions in a game aren't the best, but its better than asking 25 bucks for 12 characters and decent rollback. 25 bucks being close to near half the price of Smash Ultimate, which has 80+ characters, a decent story mode, mini games, and online included (albeit the online is not the best). Ur asking a premium price that isn't giving you premium content outside of the game itself. u are separating the actual game via "DLC" do you realize how dumb that sounds???
This game is dead on release and it's depressing cus this game I WANT to see SUCCEED. I love how it feels and plays but there isn't enough to keep anyone playing, and you put a literally pay wall the size of Mount Everest on a game that deserves at most a 5 dollar pay wall for online if that is the route you wanna take.
In summary: great game with great mechanics and unique characters, but not enough incentive to add much past that and too much incentive on putting a price tag on a game that should be cheaper.
