IT'S SO GOOD TO BE BACK. For those new to this game, it's like ski-free in first person with a banging sound track. Gone is the zany punk attitude and early difficulty, but the mouse control is much better and all the levels are new. Update: 20 levels in... is it ever going to get hard?

I'm chagning this review to negative instead. The positives: + It's not just a remaster, it's a completely rebuilt game with different assets, better artstyle, it actually looks like a sequel + It controls much better than the originals. The game now controls with mouse movement only. No need to rely on the direction keys, which makes the whole thing a much better experience. Neutral: ? The progression is super streamlined and linear. Unfortunately the joke levels are not in the game anymore. Negatives: - The options menu is a disgrace to PC games, you cannot set anything up regarding graphics, like absolutely nothing. So if you want to change the render resolution (to 1080p for example) if your PC is slow, use this in the launch options of the game. -screen-height 1080 -screen-width 1920 - The game's scoring is absolutely broken. I'm sure it was never tested and the highscores were never reached by developers. The beginning is super easy, but for some fucking reason the level scoring changes in a way that it's impossible to score more than 3 stars. You need to reach 4 stars on most levels to unlock all the levels. With some levels it's literally impossible. So it means you won't be able to experience all of the levels you paid for. Another problem is that the game never relly shows you how to get 5 stars, you need to find invisible level specific spots (needle threads) to get highscores, but you need to memorize where they are and - check this - they don't always trigger! Maybe it's just a skill issue, but the fact that the achievements show that less than 2% of players have all the levels unlocked is kind of telling. - The screenshake effect (that you can't turn off of course) makes the game look like it's running at 30 FPS. - The game doesn't even save your highest score. (There are no online highscores either, but I don't care about that anyway)

I'll focus on this game, but touch in to compare with the others. First off, the options menu is comically bad, it's all sliders-that-aren't-actually-sliders, and it's different if you pause inside of the game where it tells you the actual values. The level select menu is also confusingly bad, you can go forward/back either one or ten levels, that's it. This is important because you need a specific star count to unlock levels, so if you want to look for the ones you're missing, you have to click through all of them one at a time. Any kind of quick select would be appreciated. Controls: Game is mouse and spacebar only, and spacebar is optional. Left click/right click to thumbs up/offensive gesture at your fans and haters respectively. Spacebar to deploy helicopter-chute. [but didn't you say this was optional?, yeah, I'll get to that] Directional controls are entirely look based, which feels pretty intuitive. Movement is surprisingly reactive and you can take corners you really wouldn't expect. There is no restart option, you have to exit to menu and re-enter. Gameplay: The gameplay loop is simple, each level is a score attack to unlock up to 5 stars, levels have a star requirement to be unlocked. Each level you get dropped into the air above an obstacle course of abstract shapes, floating cityscapes, and emoji-cubes, gaining score from the risk of your moves. Mechanically, this mostly comes down to 'hugs' and 'kisses'. Hugs are the continuous score you get from being near objects as you fall, they also boost your multiplier based on how close you were. Kisses are a one time score bump for the first time you get close to an object. You also get points from hitting score plates or making the correct hand gesture when passing a crowd, but these are more supplemental in most levels, or at least dependent on you also getting hug multipliers. Each level after the first you have two hearts, the first time you slam into the top of something you'll be launched back up the level, the second time ends your run. [Which raises the question for me, why have two hearts instead of one?] Sometimes when you get launched up you'll be placed immediately above another object and take your second hit. As far as I can tell, ending your run losing your second life is no different to landing with your chute. There's no penalty for death or reward for landing in the designated area. Level design/changes: I only want to touch here on something that's unique to this game, the emoji-cubes. In the intro level the game explains that these are the optimal path to take, but that's not really it. Because the cubes are still objects you get hugs/kisses off of, they don't mark the way, they *set* the way. There's not room for finding your own path, because if you want the points to keep going you need to stick with the pack. I'm still not sure if this is an intentional subtle jab at artists and influencers riding trends, or the need of your character as an artist to get attention, or players only wanting the game thing over and over, or some way to give the required path personality? Music: The music is overall generally higher quality, I have no idea if it's licensed or original, there are no credits. The songs are now randomized with every run, which has it's ups and downs. Playing the same level isn't as repetitive, but levels also have less of an identity. - There is also VA for the tutorial in the first level, they immediately get a number wrong. Personality: This is the final nail in the coffin for me, but also makes me wonder if people who hadn't played the previous ones would feel the same way. There's these hints of a personality, but that's all they are. This game is so inoffensive that the remnants from the previous games feel like sharp edges. On remnants and sharp edges, the steam page feels like it was made for a different game closer to the originals. The two line plot is a summation of the earlier games that makes no appearance after the intro. The only incredible feature that's true is there's more than 0 levels, the spray paint doesn't even come back in this. And maybe this is me missing them or they're only in later levels, but I'm pretty sure there's no cars? Maybe I've been too focused on the cubes. The change in game controls has disincentivized looking around, so while things are prettier you won't really be paying much attention to what's going by, but if you do focus out, you'll find more genetic backgrounds than the former multi-story in universe adverts. I don't think having these visual style changes is a major negative on its own, but it certainly impacts the overall bland feel of the game. I set this down after about an hour and went and played some Aaa... For the Awesome! and honestly, I like it more. I'd rather have a janky game with some punk spirit and off kilter writing. I really hope I didn't put more thought into the meaning of the cubes than the devs did...

I pre-αlpha tested the original and for my work I was rewarded with a level editor (after suggestion they added it to the final build) that enables me to make my own levels; unfortunately, the editor wasn't made public. Anyway, I was really pleased to see the remastered version of the game; thought I was expecting to see the same levels in an enhanced form. Instead I was met with over 130+ levels that were totally different to the original, which was a pleasant surprise. The game mechanic is basically the same, with the usual tasks such as flipping off spectators, kissing buildings, crashing through score plates and landing on a pad using the parachute to break your fall. The original level selector has gone, replaced by a linear level selector, with all levels apart from the first locked. Unlocking levels relies on you scoring a certain amount of points by falling and surviving to the landing pad. You also score up to five stars depending on the score you achieved. This is slightly different from the original that awarded you teeth instead of stars. You can only earn a total of five stars per level; if you fail to get five stars on your first try, but, say for example you gain three, the next time you attempt it and win even less, they will not count, you have to score more than your previous attempt for them to count. This method may take those not as skilful, much longer to unlock later levels as it seems you need to score five stars to be able to unlock the next level. Though there is a little leeway once you pass later levels. I'm not sure if my previous experience of the game, both the original and my Steam versions; with hundreds of hours of game play between them, for both the original and it's sequel For the Awesome and even the game Beat That Ugly Baby, made me feel the new version seemed 'at least so far' relatively easy to beat compared to the original. I've managed to win five stars for the first 20 levels easily with no issues, though level 21 is causing me some grief. The movement when falling seems less sluggish than the originals, which sometimes felt like you were fighting against the movement, whereas in the new version, movement is very fluid. If you loved the first & second versions of this game, the remastered version is certainly worth buying at full price (IMO); however, if you've no real feeling for the game, then perhaps pick it up when it's on sale. I'm not aware of any other game that's quite like these gems. p.s. I'm hoping to contact the developers to see if they will give me a level editor for this one as I'd love to create more levels, but whether that will happen IDK; as I'm talking at least 15 years have passed since I did the αlpha & βeta testing for Dejobaan llc, so it's unlikely they will remember me.

I loved the originals, but find this sadly lacking compared. Positives: + Clean looking graphics + Solid sense of speed Negatives: - Removed WASD movement for mouse, but didn't do official controller support to fill in the gap - Audio cues are seriously lacking compared to older games - Bad feedback on wave/flip mechanics - Somehow an even more minimal menu than the originals - Smothered the punk spirit to lean more into the "cyber" feeling, leading to a bland experience. There's a good core still here, and there's potential for the new controls, but it ultimately feels like an early access title that still needs some time to cook. Edit: After playing more, the largest con feels like the lack of end-of-round feedback on your score. There are some levels where the difference between 4-5 stars is razor thin, and not seeing the score breakdown makes grabbing the last few points an exercise in frustration. Particularly when coupled with lack of a quick reset.

unless this is something unrelated, I could've sworn they were intending to have VR elements to this title too. Shame, would've been a lot of fun. Still, decent game for its price if you want something visually busy and arcadey to mess with now and again~

A solid recreation of one of the best indie games of all time. It's the game you know and love with updates graphics and soundtrack. The difficulty ramps way up after the first 20 levels or so, but you'll keep finding yourself dodging blocks, buildings, rafters, and lasers IRL looking to eek out just a couple extra thousand points. This game is immersive beyond anything else, even without a VR headset. Every level is a thrilling drop from beginning to end, and it plays like you always hoped AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! would. Now as others have said, it's not perfect. I miss the little bits of narrative before each stage, the trippy cubic level select screen, the funny joke levels, the clear UI for wave vs. flip (seriously sometimes I get the sound for a hand gesture and can't see the rafter through all the other details, so half the time I just have to guess) and some of the sound effects lack the punch the original had (like the point planes not being smashing glass anymore). Also yes, the options menu leaves a lot to be desired, and lack of controller support probably means Steam Deck won't be perfect (although I am excited to see how it plays with the thumb pad). If you enjoyed "A Reckless Disregard for Gravity," and/or "For the Awesome," or you're in the market for a very high octane and thrilling score attack experience, then you absolutely should pick up Remastered. For the price of admission, you get 200 levels of an amazing indie game that controls great, looks great, sounds incredible, and is just a blast to play. Just stop reading and get this one in your collection, like, right now. Go.

This game feels like they made all the levels for a whole new Aaaaaa game, but then forgot they had to do everything else, so cobbled together all the UI at the last minute. The result is a game that is fun, but: 1. really has no business calling itself a "remaster", and 2. lacks any graphics options at all. Also, there is no penalty for losing all your lives, meaning it's possible to 5-star levels without actually beating them.

I really really really want to believe this game will get better. That maybe Dejobaan Games will put out an update or something to give it the soul it deserves. However as it is right now, while the gameplay changes are interesting and the levels are fun it's just missing the polish that the earlier games in the series had. Please go check those out instead.

I loved the original games ever since I first played them when I was a kid. I cannot, in good faith, recommend this one though. They minimized everything that gave the game charm before and overly simplified several elements. I was expecting a texture + control update. This is just... unfinished.
