Don't waste your money on this app like I did. The avatars are just no no. Even when you are just moving your head without mic, your mouth opens as if you are talking. Try other apps if you really want something worth your money.

It looks to be a really nice software, but Im not knowledgeable enough to do all the steps you need to create and import your own Avatar. As you can see in the comments, the customer service and support is above and beyond. 5 stars for sure

a must have for any call, animaze has customizable options for models that let you edit shapes and colors, plus you can add leapmotion tracker and mocap hands with most of the avatars.

Let’s skip the PR fluff about “difficult decisions” and look at the facts. This isn’t about survival — it’s a deliberate pivot to a more profitable business model at the expense of the community that made Animaze what it is.
The “broke indie” story doesn’t add up.
You’re the team behind FaceRig, a product that sold perpetual licenses on Steam/Standalone for over a decade (roughly $60–120 per version, plus DLC). Dozens of similar tools thrive on one-time purchases. After 11 years of profitable operation, claiming you’re a “tiny team” barely scraping by feels disingenuous. This isn’t financial necessity — it’s a calculated shift to subscription-based milking of an established user base.
The Steam / standalone split is transparently greedy.
Removing ChatPal from Steam because of the “AI label” is a convenient excuse. Many developers use Steam’s GenAI rules as a scapegoat to push users into their own walled-garden launcher. You didn’t solve a problem — you manufactured a reason to move power users away from a platform where they own their software and into your subscription-only ecosystem. It’s a textbook move.
You didn’t “have to” do anything. You chose to.
You chose to slap a jarring 45-minute session limit on free users instead of gradually building irresistible value into paid tiers. You chose to degrade the Steam version and fragment your community. You chose to frame this cash grab as a noble act of preservation.
