I paid a wise old man 100 gold for his sage advice. Turns out he wasn't all that wise.

Nice and relaxing game that gets more challenging as time goes on. Random events add to its replay value and it never gets boring.
Side note: Don't trust Catma!

I do like this game. Although the first impression is quite sobering the game manages to quickly catch you in its flow. But I do not agree with the label "rougelike" because if you loose any progress you made will be lost.
It also can be quite frustrating at times, but it feels very rewarding when you overcome the hurdle which kept you back. I think that even after beating the game (which I did not achieve, yet) you have reason to come back, because there are many events to be explored and multiple strategies to try out.
So yes, I would say this game is worth its money :)

This is a quite casual, but fun game. You have to build and defend a city in a simple window. The graphic is nice, but the UI feels amateurish sometimes. I loved the humor and the difficulty. Sometimes, the rng becomes a bit too much, leading to too easy or too hard runs, but it feels fair overall.
8/10. Worth the price imo

Simple game. Yet rng, 5 factions, random events, riddles make it complex with deep strategy element.
I love city builders and making units in general. Game is very challenging I've played 17.5 hours a few days into purchasing and even though made it to final boss twice i still have not beat the game yet. Addictive game play and replay value is high.
Key to starting is focus on 1. gold 2. food 3. wood. i do not make any units until i'm attacked at the start. when i am attacked I focus on making a few units ie 20 archers maybe 10 thugs 10 militia then attack the small camps ie peasant militia and archer camps. make iron and stone mine and the remaining buidings. pick one faction to focus on and maybe have a subfaction as 2nd ary. for me i choose military and later capitalists. but there are relion freethinkers and nature ie guardians.
Favoring one faction gives rewards ie more resources or more troops etc. There are 2 super units ie darius and bertha who take some rng to get but are super super super good. If you take specific dialogue options its possible to attack other dungeons ie like bandits other caves etc.
For me the hard part is monk boss he is very challenging. And will take several attempts to be able to defeat. After that when you get access to faction headquarters you get access to each faction's 'elite" units which are very strong. also get access to officers which have aura that increase damage 10 percent. there are support units that specialize in killing monsters ie woodcutters/adventures. archers that specialize in killing melee. there is magic fire, light, anti mage, priests that heal. there are regualar milita/sodiers and then special units like horsemen and mace/spear units berserker units. and tons of other special units demons, skeletons, spiders, etc all that can join your party.
do you take 1000g now and pay back 1200g later? do you pay 1000g now and get 1500g later? do you kill horses for food? do you cut down the trees or replant them. do you do a quick fix on mine or more of a permanent fix for a little more resources. do you pay to get more economy more people into your town or hold onto those resouces to make more troops due to an immediate attack coming.
Game for me is well worth the 10 bucks and hope you guys give it a try. there are idk 4 different ages i think each age has new dungeons new buildings and units to unlock. getting to age 4 and getting the knights/mages/etc is where it really gets interesting for me. so many different choices and options.

Not good at all, I refunded.
I like the concept, but the balance is terrible, full of spelling errors and missed translations, poor graphics, and I finished the entire game in 2 hours. No replay value.
Definitely not worth the $10 asking price.

It's a niche game for a niche audience.
Some minor language errors for English speakers.
An amusing way to burn some hours away.
Easy and Normal are the better modes to play on, the hard "ending" isn't worth the effort imo.
Had a pig in my army 10/10 I did play again.

Altwaldheim is a simple menu-based city management game where you have to build up a town and defend it from invasions. The game only has one screen, an image of your town which gets filled with new buildings as you construct them, similar to the town screens of the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Actions are performed by going into menus and choosing them from a list.
You can construct buildings, recruit soldiers, and assault dungeons. You can perform as many actions per turn as your resources allow you to, and when you end your turn you gain income based on your production. When a new turn begins, there's a chance to get an event where you have to make a decision.
The core gameplay is pretty simple, but it works very well. You have to balance your construction and recruitment budgets to make sure you have a solid economy, but also enough soldiers to survive the regular enemy assaults. Events often come with choices that improve your relations with one of the town's factions, while decreasing it with another. Tax income is tied to the happiness of the factions, so it's important to keep them all happy. Dungeons offer high rewards but can wipe out your army if you assault them with too low strength. Every decision matters, and surviving the final battle is extremely difficult.
While the gameplay is great, the writing is more of a hit-or-miss affair. It goes for a very silly brand of humor filled with absurd situations and silly characters. Moreover, it's very German. As a native German speaker, I noticed some wordplay that is kinda cute in German but doesn't really work that well in English. There's one event where a guy with a speech impediment asks you a question, önd öll thö önswörs öre wröttön löke thös. A lot of the humor feels like it was intended to be written in German and then translated to English, and will probably feel a little weird to players who don't speak German.
Overall, it's a cool little indie game with good gameplay and quirky writing that's worth checking out if you like simple but challenging city builders.

Ok folks,
I've been playing games from a very young age. This game will work for you if you like a chill relaxed management game that will challenge you.
Graphics are minimalist but it doesn't matter.
I recommend the game because the developers did a really really good job in pulling this together in a way that it will keep you entertained while really focusing on you management and decision skills.
Well done, it's a buy.

Buy this game. Seriously, just buy it. Honestly, this is one of the coolest hidden gems on Steam. It's incredibly simple and relaxing to get started and yet very hard to beat. I wouldn't go in expecting to beat the game on your first few tries. If you fail to defend yourself from an invasion it's game over. This forces you to constantly compromise between growing your economy and building an army.
While the game is very simple to pick up, mastering it takes some time. Learning which units are good against which armies is tricky. On top of that it's tricky figuring out the best response to the weekly events, especially since there is some chance involved. This makes it feel like each time you lose, you've learned a lot along the way and might do better next time.
I've seen so many mediocre games on steam and developers who just don't seem to care about making a fun game. This is an exception and I was happily surprised. Please support this developer because I'm really excited to see what he does next.
