“Detective from the Crypt” is a finely crafted point&click adventure with, as the name implies, detective plot. You play as a young English aristocrat named Jane, and you start your adventure in a crypt – where you awaken as a ghost, because you and your parents were recently murdered, and to find peace you need to uncover who the murderer was. Graphics uses 2D side-view concept, with all environments and objects meticulously illustrated, music is also very good. As you would expect from a point&click, it’s focused on picking and using items, with some limited interaction with few NPCs present. Storyline is pretty much linear (and as detective plots go somewhat average) – you need to assemble clues to identify who murdered your family – although there are some special (and dreary) endings to witness. The game is relatively short and fairly easy, you will rarely get stuck and should finish the game in 3-4 hours. And for such a beautiful game the price is more than favorable, so I can only recommend it to avid point&clickers to try it at the earliest opportunity.

A short and tragic game about loss and trying to put the pieces of your family’s grizzly murder together. This game pulls the right strings. Bought it on sale and it did not disappoint. Although the game has multiple endings I wouldn’t exactly say there’s a ton of replay value unless you’re looking for some spooky atmosphere, somber music, and trying to remember what pieces fit into where. Good game overall.
The Good
(+) Atmosphere. Between the art, scenery, and music this game pulls you in and make you feel like a ghost in a very morbid setting.
(+) Puzzles are fairly easy. Your ghost cat gives some clues and let’s you know when you’ve competed a room and suggests when you should move on to the next… even if not entirely accurate. (See Below).
(+) Feels like Clue with ghosts.
(+) Several endings, with one true ending if you complete all tasks – at least I think.
(+) Casual game. Mellow. No way to really get a Game Over and even if you do you can start again where you last left off.
(+) Should be able to run on any system.
(+) Short. I beat the game with all endings and achievements in less than three hours. All achievements can be obtained in one play if you’re doing it right.
The Meh
(/) Only needed a walkthrough for the last pearl and task. The cat said I could leave my room but it left out the small detail of a peal hiding in a drawer.
(/) Your ghost can fly or fly slightly faster in small bursts. I guess this keeps you from keeping a hand on the mouse or keys at all times but the bursts seem pretty short.
(/) Music does seem to loop even if very atmospheric.
(/) Ended up with some items in inventory that didn’t get used. Not a terribly big deal but when a game makes of point of saying your sound something I would assume it gets used.
(/) Scaring the butler or poisoning the hot coco are just their for the achievement. I actually found the butler bit a nuisance since you don’t have long and the first warning is very sudden.
The Bad
(-) Only had absolutely no clue with one task. No in game hint to indicate I was supposed to hold something against the fireplace. Shouldn’t be a big deal but without some clue or hint but once I have to use a walkthrough, even for a moment I tend to lose a little interest.
Overall, good game. Worth the sale price. Try it out and enjoy this title on Halloween, Friday the Thirteenth, Day of the Dead, etc.

I played the demo of this game, and while I did like the dark, gloomy, and somewhat cool mood, I was initially only mildly interested, so I put it down as a "maybe" and followed the game. I kept looking back after it was released and purchased it 10 days later.
Admittedly, the user interface is not the smoothest, but I found the design quite charming because it reminded me of Point and Click games I used to play years ago. I did encounter some bugs that prevented me from progressing with the investigation, such as some item interactions glitching
(e.g., blood and hydrogen peroxide)
, which I was able to solve with a restart. There was also a continuity discrepancy where an object disappears before accomplishing the quest which left me and others thinking it was a bug. I would encourage people not to be turned off by these since the developer is open to feedback and bug fixes and seems to still be quite responsive to posts even a year after the game's release.
I purchased this for full price (6.99 USD sans tax). Though it is short, I think it is worth its full price to satisfy a bit of an investigative craving. I enjoyed the addition of some quick time events and the various puzzles involved. The vibe of this game is relaxing enough to wind down and solve something somewhat simpler yet challenging enough to feel accomplished after a long day, or simply to enjoy and take it easy while staying in during a rainy day.

The game looks beautiful, but the English translation is very awkward, and so are the controls. Overall this distracted me too much from the gameplay, so I returned the game for a refund.

Really good detective/supernatural point and click game. Enjoyed the concept, graphics, atmosphere, and story.
Only complaints revolved around the user interface, which in general felt fairly clunky/inflexible but managable, such as:
- When opening inventory window and other related in-game windows, you can only close them by clicking a small close button (versus clicking outside the window, etc.).
- Not all interactable things show a cursor to consistently reflect that.
- When trying an inventory item against something that isn't interactable, you'll start walking toward that location.
- Dialog windows take wayyy too long to automatically close, unless you click its tiny close button.
- Dialog window behavior changes in some scenarios: sometimes can interact with other in-game windows when a dialog window present and other times can't, some need explicitly closed, etc.

Detective from the Crypt is the second point & click game developed by BOV, with an art style as stunning as their first game, though the atmosphere and the era are different.
BOV manages to capture the spirit of an era and makes an amazing game out of it.
In this game, you wake up as Jane, a ghost. Every member of your family has been killed and you are searching for evidences in order to find the culprit.
The game has an incredible 19th century victorian atmosphere, the artwork is fantastic, and the music is good. It's not too difficult to complete (and there is a cat to help you and give you hints if you are stuck). The story in itself is really good, it's simple but it does its job and doesn't bore you at any point in the game. Achievements only appear on your page once you exit the game, so don't worry - it's not a game with broken achievements that don't appear in your stats, if you're hunting for those.
I would recommend this game to anyone who loves point&click games, as I really enjoyed it and could definitely play it again. It's also not expensive; you can wait for it to be on sales to save some money of course, but it's worth its price.

I think the concept of this game is great, but the game doesn't deliver on it. It's just not quite there. User interface is rough, but I can forgive that from a new studio. It's a functional point-and-click adventure but a terrible investigative game. For example, in one puzzle you need to
find out who wrote a love letter, and to do that you compare the paper it's written on to other sheets of paper you find in the house. Except that all of the paper in the house is a match. This makes it a worthless clue, but the game treats it as if it implicates multiple people.
That's a particularly egregious example, but far from the only one.
In the endgame (I won't give away the culprit, just explain how it works),
you pick your chosen suspect from those you've implicated, and the game shows you how the crime might have happened if that suspect was guilty. Once you've watched the cutscene, it'll ask if you think that suspect is guilty. You have to say yes or no. If you watch all the suspects without accusing someone, the game gives you the bad ending, game over. You have to pick correctly on the first watch. It's not a satisfying process. Also not satisfying is the fact that there aren't really enough clues to eliminate all the wrong choices, so unless you happen to think like the developers you'll probably be picking randomly. If you accuse the wrong person, you get the bad ending. If you accuse the right person, you get a "good" ending that is, if anything, worse.
TFW a cat is smarter than you.
Detective From The Crypt is a classic Point&Click quest game. It does a really good job at capturing the spirit of the era when these games were popular - a beatiful drawn art style, pixel-hunting (not to the extent of some of the games back then), incredible atmosphere and a lot more of the things we love these kind of games for.
Pros:

The art style is fantastic.

Music makes the atmosphere much more mysterious and melancholic, just as we are really ghosts that woke up with no memories of their death.

If you're stuck - the cat is out here for you. The cat tells you if there is anything else left to do in the room or what the certain item's for, if you are not interested in pixel-hunting or have no idea what to do next.

Lots of interesting puzzles (some might be too hard without the help of the cat, though).
Cons:

Moving with the mouse might feel a bit clunky

Some of the actions require a certain order, even though you should be able to do it in any given.

Despite the plot being good overall, some of the elements are unexpected to the point you could've not even think this was possible.
It's a nice game to spend an evening on. It's short (you might be able to complete it in two-three hours), but captivating. If you are contemplating buying it - buy it. It's worth every cent.

While this has a Goetia vibe in a few different ways, this is easier, simpler and shorter than that. But knowing this, if you enjoyed that game then take a look at this. I really enjoyed the gameplay of this sideways scroller as it's a bit different from the usual. Apart from not hanging around too long outside some rooms there isn't anything timed or reaction needed in this pure quest integrated puzzle P&C (you can also use arrows to move around).
GAMEPLAY
There are lots of integrated puzzles. There are the usual inventory items but what is even more important is the journal. In the journal you also get hints if you click on an objective. There is also an area with each character and everything you have found out about them will be recorded there. Once there is enough for each person you can click on 'see this person's version of events' tab.
At the top of page there is a variety of items you can click which you can toggle on or of at any time. Two of these are;
HINT -One of these is a cat which will follow you around and if you click on it, will give you a hint. It is a hint button, the rare thing it seems in game as so many times a hint button is actually the solution. It will tell you if you've found everything in an area, if you drag an item from your inventory it will give you a clue. I loved the hint button, not because it's a cat just how the hint was done and was exactly what a hint should be.
HIDDEN SECRET - Another thing you can use is a candle which will glow red if you are near a secret passage or secret.
There is no hotspot indicator but along with an autosave there are manual saves. Save often as although it's only a couple of different ways - you can 'die'/end game. But if this happens the auto button should rescue you back to beforehand but to be on the safe side save often. There is a limited jump map which you get not at the very beginning but a bit into it. It won't take you to every room but at least it will take you to the near vicinity.
100%
N.B achs pop when you exit the game. If you click on and examine everything obvious, do all objectives then you should get all achievements. The only one that with global stats seems to be the least gotten was the drink poison ach to get that
put the sugar in with the chocolate first before doing what you are supposed to do with the drink. You might need to figure out first that the sugar was posioned so if it's not popping for you try that and save just before you do this!
There is no pixel hunting everything is clear to see and pick up. The story was well done in how you interact with it, although simple it was good. The price was good for the quality, 'a bit different' type gameplay, graphics were lovely. I really enjoyed it.
