Girls Overboard is what I'd call a PC mobile game. It's a match-3/dating sim/mobile game hybrid. It isn't exactly a great quality game.
The game itself asks for $2 up front. Then, you'll be put into a short 1-2 minute intro scene, then a stereotypical mobile game style tutorial. You know, the kind where a random character tells you what each menu is, forces you to perform the action then gives you a few items to help you get started.
The gameplay, as explained in the hand-holding tutorial, is done in 3 menus. The slots menu (The Net), The Match 3 Menu (Crafting), and the girls (Chatting).
The slots require energy and are typical match 3 in a line, either vertically horizontally or diagonally. When you match at least one line, you get score. Score gives you gems and other currency, and resets when you fail to get another row on the next pull. Energy comes back slowly over time, even when the game is not running, but you can also use "Water Bottles" to replenish it quickly. These can either be earned randomly in the slots or bought with pearls. Pearls cost real money. There are microtransactions, yes.
The crafting/match 3 menu is where you have the expected board of gems. You create a line of 3 or more, and the gems break. They then give you dust, to craft gifts with. The problem with this part of the game is that it is extremely tedious, and not rewarding. Matching more than 3 in the same line gives NO extra dust, or at least it's bugged to not do so on launch. The board can get to a point where there are no possible matches, but in an ironic twist, the explain everything tutorial at the start doesn't tell you that you have to then "Sell All" of your gems to clear the board and get a new one. You can also have a girl stare at you while you make matches, but some of them literally clip off the screen. It's just not a satisfying gameplay loop.
Well, the girls menu? Not bad, honestly. It's clear in what you need to unlock the next one, the art is good, and it has an affection meter (That for some reason doesn't auto update properly when you increase their affection. Visual bug.) You can click on them to chat, but it's only a one way voice line from them, similar to Crush Crush. Voice acting is at least average to above-average in quality.
There's also the outfit and item shops. Outfits cost sand dollars (Free currency, gotten on the slots or from selling all gems) or pearls (Real money currency). You can upgrade the net (The slots) here, buy bait (increases certain colors gained), or pearls at the main shop. The outfit shop is for cosmetics, which cost sand dollars. Except for 3+ star outfits, which also need pearls. Oh, and one of the achievements requires you to get 10 five star outfits. Unless i'm missing something, that means that one of the achievements is locked behinds microtransactions in a non free-to-play game. Ouch.
The art style is really cute, it's very sparkly and colorful, like some early 2000s PC games. The music though, is very... repetitive. One song, endlessly looping, forever. It gets old quick.
There's also quite a few bugs. Like previously mentioned, some girls have their image clip off the screen. Inputs will, on occasion, not register (This is especially frustrating in the slots area). Some progress bars, like affection and EXP, will not properly update visually until either a process is done or you click on another menu.
Overall, it just doesn't feel like this was properly play tested, or really had much thought put into the Match-3 area. I'm sure that if you jam is Match 3 mobile games, then this is a $2 treat. I personally think it's a decent time sink that needs some polish. However, the fact that there are microtransactions, a lack of overall content, plenty of small bugs, and a less satisfying gameplay loop, makes me unable to recommend this game in good faith.
EDIT: While some bugs have been fixed and some QOL changes have been made, the overall foundation of the game remain mostly the same. I'll keep the rest of the review here for posterity's sake, but my ultimate view of the game has not changed drastically as of June 8th.

A pretty big grind if you don't wanna pay into the mobile game mechanics. They're not necessary to beat the game, unlock everything, and get all the achievements so I just ignored them. I recommend an auto-clicker after the first couple hours of play. Great outfits and decent H-scenes.

Overall, I liked the earlier version of the game, with matching tiles. A shooter version isn't bad, but isn't what I enjoy. It doesn't serve any purpose that I can see, other than unlocking outfits, and maybe storyline? But that was working in an earlier version, and the earlier version could generate sand dollars, too.
What turned this from a 'yes' to a 'no' rec, however, was the introduction of Madison's story, and her penchant for the 'yellow shower'. I am very much NOT into such a kink, and there is nothing that can be done to remove either the character or the story element. So for now, I'm uninstalling. Maybe I'll come back and look at buying the other characters in a few months, but at the moment my interest has dropped lower than the Mariana Trench.

"How bad can I be?" I thought. "3 bucks, 18 relatively easy achievements, some hot monstergirls to bang, even if it's a bit mediocre it can't be that bad."
No, it's WORSE.
For one thing, I should have read the patch notes before I bought the game, because they recently tore out the ENTIRE match 3 gameplay system and replaced it with a Bust-a-Move-esque bubble shooting game- a really, really awful one that fails on even the most basic levels. You don't get a line to show you where you're aiming so you can't accurately see where the gems you're shooting out are going to go, but even so the stages are pointlessly easy, even if they're also needlessly frustrating. And then they didn't update the store page, so it still claims to be a match 3 game (I actually had a hankering for another match 3 game, it'd been a while since I'd played one, so I felt gypped by this). And what is it even FOR? A bunch of gameplay systems aren't even explained at all- what am I leveling up for? What are all these resources for? How do I improve relationships with the girls? I took a look at the forum and it seems the game has been left a barely-functional shambles after they basically rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up and the devs are scrambling to get patches out.
So any way I slice it, what this is is just another crappy microtransaction-riddled mobile grindathon, of the sort Nutaku crap out every few months. It even does the same thing those Nutaku games do where you get a free sex scene right at the start to sucker you in before plopping you down on the hamster wheel. The only difference is that the Nutaku games are actually free. That's it. This is a F2P mobile game they want you to pay for up front before they start trying to make you pay for everything else. And I already swore off all those Nutaku games, so I'm DAMNED if I'm keeping this crap.

Same studio = same problem. This game is released by AGL studios which has made Faulty Apperntice game. FA was presented as date simulator BUT it wasn't. Instead it was a horroribly LONG (app. 8 h) novel with very small choices and not the best story.
But in Girls Overboard AGL made even worse - now you have to pay microtransactions to buy pearls to unlock ingame content or spend hours , so don't be fooled by low game price - you won't get a romance game with choice, instead you got the time swallower like casino stuff and if you try to play it eventually you got the average story with very small choice.
Shame to AGL. Instead of making just romance simulator with erotic scenes thay are making something like it to hentai your wallet instead. And bright pictures of girls only make this code piece look like pile of dirt instead of shining meadow.

This game has more content than the small price tag would suggest. The basic game play loop is -
1. Play gatcha (slot machine) for coins and gems.
2. Coins are used to upgrade the gatcha and buy outfits for girls
3. Gems are loaded into a match 3 game, matches give you "dust"
4. Dust is used to craft gifts to raise girls affection.
5. Repeat
This is one of those things that looks better on paper than in practice, because after the first quarter or half of the game, the uninspired game play loop becomes a bit of a chore (even if it doesn't take all that much time). However, by about this time you can start abusing the games mechanics to collect dust using the "Auto sell" in combination with the colored "bait" you can use for the fishing gatcha to skip the entire match 3 mechanic. This makes it even more boring, but go much, much, much faster.
One other thing to note is that the game does include a cash shop if you really want to skip all of the mechanics entirely, but it's totally not required. I managed to see all of the scenes for all of the girls after about 4 hours of playing without using it, so I suspect you can too.
On the whole this is an "OK" game. Things that could have improved it would have been - removing the gatcha component and instead having a more involved match-3 segment and more scenes with the girls (or a better overall plot). However, for the price I paid, the game was entirely respectable and I don't have any regrets about buying it or hesitation about recommending it.
Pros:
- Generally good art work.
- Fully voiced girls
- Good price point
- Surprisingly large amount of extra outfits for girls
Cons:
- Game aspect is uninspired
- Story is perfunctory and with the exception of say, the milf characters final scene and the final girl, entirely forgettable.
- With the exception of 1 character (the milf), all of the H-scenes are pretty much exactly the same. It's just uninspired which is a real mark against it for an adult game. I mean, c'mon, the acronymn for Ami's organization literally spells out A.N.A.L. and she just gets missionary like all the girls before her.
Frankly, the real saving grace of this game is the price point. It's cheap enough that all of the things I found annoying about it didn't really bother me that much, but it's kind of sad to see that they could have done this much better in many simple ways and just didn't.

i bought this game to see cringy lewd scenes involving monster girls. but nearly all the mermaids drink a "turn them human for a day"potion before you sleep with them. if i wanted to play hentai bejewled i wouldve played nearly any other hentai puzzle. the only monster girl who remains a monster is the octopus, but she looks like a purple human with tails cause she still has human legs.

This game… can you even call this “a game”? Girls Overboard feels like a half-finished mobile port with micro transactions. The dating aspect is lacklustre (every girl has 3 scenes and that’s it). It contains a slot machine without special effects (all you do is click). And the “match 3” part has 0 combos. Imagine playing Bejewelled and never getting a combo bonus. Yikes! *Start the game, click the slot a few times, maybe buy a gift for a character, realise you need to match some gems, feel annoyed, close the game again.*
Don’t waste your time.

The art is good, but i didn't like the game's monetisation or the game's progression system at all.
I'd rather buy a good game for the fixed price, than swim through the mud of an f2p monetisation model. In the end I can't recommend this game, there are MUCH better H-games on Steam.

The artwork is nice but the grind is just too much. Eventhough the game doesn't cost a lot, I really dislike the incentive that you can pay more to skip several hours of gameplay.
Takes a lot of time to unlock everything so I'm pretty sure that some people actually buy the ingame currency to unlock stuff faster.
It's just not worth it. Not your time nor your money.
