As of writing this, I have under 3 hours in the game with all the steam achievements. It's a simple yet fun game, with clear inspirations from Wii Play Tanks and yet has enough unique charm and personality to stand on it's own. It's not some AAA masterpiece, but I wholeheartedly recommend this game if you liked WIi Play Tanks or if it looks interesting to you. 3 hours isn't a ton of playtime, but trust me when I say that there's far more content than just the steam achievements. I won't be putting this game down anytime soon. You have a tank, and can dash and shoot. The shooting feels a little bit rough in my opinion, you get a little crosshair in front of your tank that shows the direction your bullet will go, but it's extremely hard to line up and shoot an enemy from across the map or try to pull off a ricochet. HOWEVER, the game more than makes up for it with it's dash mechanic. You can hurt your enemies and even flip them over by dashing into them, and combined with the fact that shooting is much easier to pull off at close range, it's a literal game-changer. This isn't some real time strategy game where you'll be carefully lining up shots. This is a close combat physics based shooting sandbox. The most fun part of this game by far is mastering your dash mechanic, and the slightly weaker jump mechanic and combining them to quite literally fly across the map at times. It's fantastic and I love it. The enemy variety is pretty great. A few can be really annoying, specifically the red gatling tanks, but there's a lot of really cool and interesting ideas here, from tanks that add health to your enemies (which you can intercept and take for yourself if you're skilled), to tanks that literally swap places with you, which can lead to some very interesting setups where you try to get this to happen while you're bouncing above a pool of water so that they fall in. It's so creative and it's a lot more than I was expecting really. There's even 5 boss fights in the game, which for the most part are pretty fun, although some of them can be brutally challenging to take down if you can't find a cheeky way to launch them off the map instead. Remember how I said there was tons of content beyond just the achievements? There's 3 levels of difficulty, I've done all of medium and most of hard, haven't touched easy or finished hard. Additionally, there's around 7 different tanks to play as, which I haven't even tried out yet. ON TOP OF THAT, there's I think 15 different modifiers that can all be toggled to change up the game experience, as well as a randomizer option. AND THEN you have co-op, competitive, and custom maps to keep you occupied for the rest of time. This game has a ridiculous amount of content for what it is. I'm very glad that I discovered this through a reddit post lol

Wow this game gets the wii tanks nostalgia going... It is truely a natural progression the the classic! The game has a ton of different types of enemy tanks which adds a lot of strategy to your decision on which ones to target first. The physics of jumping and ramming give the game-play even more dimension. Great for single player and co op!

Once you get a feel for the game mechanics (shoot, jump, dash), it's really fun dashing and beating up the enemy tanks. The game rewards aggressive play style which is a lot more fun than the old school Wii tanks that rewarded defensive play. There is some replay value by trying different tank types and trying to get the max score in all the levels. I played the entire campaign with my wife in about 3 hrs. It was good fun. Worth the $6 (50% off). There are some parts of the campaign that are super difficult and sometimes frustrating. And then sometimes you can cheese that same boss fight by punching the enemy out of the area instantly. Overall, that is the charm of this game. Some enemies are too OP in my opinion with super fast rockets and fire rate that just juggle you without allowing you to fight back ever. If you cant get the shot off first then that is an instant restart-the-level. On one hand, I like the challenge, but I imagine most casuals will rage quit. I wish there was more focus on the local PVP game modes and maps. It seems very unfinished because once there is one man standing it does not end - you just sit there and have to exit the game manually. I would like to bring this into my couch co-op rotation (4-player versus), but the menu system is so clunky it would be a slog to play with a group. There are ~8 different playable tanks, but it is not very clear what special powers they have from the tank select screen. Maybe the developer could show more info when the player is pressing X button. Also it is not super clear what the enemy campaign tank types do unless you play against them a lot. Maybe add an encyclopedia system on the side so the player can read up (slime rancher does this well). Also, this would be a good place to explain how the different rocket types behave. This is a stretch... it would be awesome if this game had online multiplayer (like duck game). Maybe i'll try remote play instead. Probably better for the developer to focus on filling out the local experience before exploring this. I'm looking forward to watching this game improve over time. I'll update my review accordingly.

Fun and simple. Gameplay is straight forward, however mastering the recoil of your guns, while boost jumping to avoid enemy fire takes a lot of skill.

This game is really fun. Some levels are honestly challenging, but I like the difficulty curve to it. I love a good challenge. It plays a lot like the tank mini-game from Wii Play, but with jumping and dashing mechanics. The reason I bought this game was because of the local multiplayer, and I can say its a great game to play with friends :)

Followed this guy's development through some game development channels, and he's really done it great. A wonderful project. I was a huge fan of Wii Play's Tank game and the fact that this is such a wholesome spiritual successor to it makes me extremely happy. I marvel at some of the detail and thought put into such a simple game. The lack of online co-op is a bit of a bummer since Remote Play is not perfect, and not a viable option for everyone, and having three dimensional physics interactions in an orthographic perspective can be a little confusing, but those are minor complaints. One of the biggest issues I've had so far are the fact that the game is not colorblind friendly by any means. It's a guessing game as to what tank I'm going up against since only a few of them have unique textures, a lot of tanks have special behavior that are significant and being colorblind prevents me from knowing this before seeing their ability in action (for example, healing and mine layer tanks look identical). There are also a lot of red or gray tanks that seem to have radical differences but I've never been able to tell any of them apart, if I'm even supposed to. This also makes the tank selection sort of hard because some tanks have very differing behavior and similar colors, but I've been able to memorize them from the stat distribution patterns. That said, it's still loads of fun and I can brute force most rooms and learn the tanks by memory without needing to tell them apart. It's still a solvable problem if enough textural differences are introduced to the tanks, or at least making their two-tone patterns more unique, but it's something I'm jaded about and very used to. If you're colorblind, it may or may not be troublesome for you. Overall the game is a bundle of joy, and if you're not colorblind I imagine it'd be even more joy. Remote Play Together works for me and it's been a hute. Very cute party game, and the difficulty can get really quite intense if you want a challenge. The current sale going on is a no brainer, but $12 is absolutely fair if this is something you're into.

As you can see, this game takes heavy inspiration from Wii Play's tank game and I find it equally enjoyable. The added dash mechanic makes it very chaotic and a lot of fun being able to ram into tanks to deal damage as well as ramming into bullets to repel them. My only complaint (but not really) is that the aiming line is very very short and I find it difficult to get bullets where I want them to go sometimes. However, I've taken this up as more of a challenge to get better aiming with it and I've made some progress and it feels good being able to snipe a stationary tank from far away in the map. The single player modes are quite challenging if you're a completionist like me. There are three difficulty modes to choose from and to three star a map you must beat all the tanks within the allotted time as the meter ticks down. Taking hits subtracts from the meter and landing hits / getting kills replenishes this meter so the focus of the game is speed and efficiency which is a tad frustrating with how chaotic it is but that's what makes it fun.

Very Fun! I found the game when it was still in early beta and it has much improved since then. The physics are really fun to play around with once you master them, but I still have lots of fun even without fully mastering them. All in all it is a very fun game :) (P.S. Brawler is best)

Found this game thanks to SilokHawk! Toy Tanks is a truly enjoyable Wii Tanks spiritual successor that remembers what made the original game so fun, while also improving upon the formula!
