I have a few problems with this game.
1- I think the controls are a bit bad. It's quite hard to figure out what I'm doing at all, especially when I tried to nail things.
2- The physics are bad. I can't press two pieces of wood together for clamping them without them flying in random directions.
3- Surprisingly limited. I've done carpentry in real life before, and I had way more tools than some measuring equipment, a handsaw, and a hammer.
4- If you are an impatient man with unsteady hands, all this game does is take away your wrist-wresting surfaces. I found it incredibly hard to cut straight.
I only played this game for half an hour, and I don't think I'm ever going to play it again.
As per developer request, I'll expand on this review.
My approach to learning the controls was mostly just trying all the buttons while hovering over items, but I did take to the clipboard for ones I got stuck on. The clipboard was a bit small, especially for someone who just can't seem to align his headset lenses correctly, but I did end up slowly figuring them all out. Even so, I was still trying to hammer nails without realising that you had to hold the trigger.
I was using mostly the table vise when I could, but there were occasions where I had to move the project around when working, like when I'm trying to nail two very differently sized pieces of wood together, but that was when I encountered that my materials would like to go to mars instead of being a chair. I apologise for being so hard on the physics, I know they're very hard to get right, I was just expecting them to be a but more accurate than that.
After a few challenge levels, I did decide to try out a Free Play level.
The free play levels certainly were a bit more enjoyable, although I had some issues with accidentally nailing things to the floor.
One thing I highly recommend adding would be sandpaper, to even out your cuts a bit instead of having to re-cut over and over because you hit the angle wrong, because man oh man I could not cut straight to save my life. I tried the measuring tools and all that, but with the collision errors you mentioned in your reply, I couldn't get the wood in the vise straight either. Meaning when I did cut straight, it was still on an angle compared to the rest of the wood. This was by far the most infuriating thing I encountered, as uneven cuts lead to even more collision errors, so even more space flights. This was what caused me to stop playing so soon.
Unfortunately, I have requested a refund that was accepted last night. I may give it another try sometime in the future, but for now it will stay refunded. Thank you for the kind response.
I appear to be losing sleep over this, and the reasons are so insignificant that I think I may have problems.
First, if you want me to remove this review for better marketing I wouldn’t mind.
Second, the more I think about adding sandpaper the more I realize that it would be a chaotic heck-hole to code.
Third, I realized that I’m an idiot and didn’t know what a miter block was. Sorry about that.
Fourth, I’m sorry my review was so harsh, at the time I was still mad that my entire project went on a Mars colonization mission.
You really are an amazing and kind developer for getting this far on your own and being kind to every single negative reviewer. I do look forward to seeing this game reach it’s prime, I’d bet it’ll be amazing.
As of July 21st 2022, this review is most likely outdated. I haven't tried the game since, but if things have been changed, if you're reading this, you may want to try it.

Detailed comments:
This game is one of the rare beauties in the gaming world where you are given basic tools and your imagination is the limit. Think 'Minecraft' level.
You're given a hammer, saw and a few challenges to wet your appetite in what you're able to do.
One or two challenges later, and you're given free reign of the Vrkshop world. This is where 'Free play' is your ultimate playground.
You're able to spawn an unlimited amount and every sized timber you desire; and all different kinds of nails to hammer your hearts desired design together.
Even though this game is in early access and basic in its scope (for now), the development is just getting started. The developer 'Wooden-robot' is very active and is listening to all feedback and every idea from anyone with a voice. Which means that the experience is only going to improve. I'm excited with where this game is heading and i'm excited to see what people are able to come up with.
With a little time and patience, you are capable of big projects;

Game is pretty good, I am not much of a woodworking enthusiast, but decided to try it, the game is good, just not very interesting to me, I made 2 tables then got bored, the saw keeps glitching out and the collisions are constantly making it impossible to hammer stuff, the main reason I don't like it that much is the turning is horrible, I try to turn and it teleports me across the map, a few times my stuff went flying because of this, I am going to refund it, but if it gets more updates I might buy it again, if you like woodworking stuff, I suggest this game, just not my style

Frustratingly simple, yet unbelievably complicated. Build anything from a stool to literally an entire house, board by board, cut by cut, nail by nail. I'm currently building a dog house from scratch, and it's going surprisingly well. Two things I would like to see in the future: 1. A table saw, cutting large pieces of plywood is very difficult to do accurately with a hand saw. 2. Portable clamps to hold pieces together while nailing.
Edit 1: (of many to come I'm sure): not sure how difficult this would be to implement but adding a tiny bit of "springiness" to nails to allow for adjustments to get rid of small gaps in constructions. Also allowing pieces to rotate around a single nail would be awesome
Edit 2: Completed my dog house after about 5 hours of work, really love that every little flaw in your cuts compounds to little gaps here and there, really feels like you're actually building something

A amazingly simple VR game, however has some issues. My key issue is the lack of weighted objects and motion filtering. It can be incredibly hard to get a nice clean cut or make a good marking. Items are also not weighted, making it hard to assemble items.
Power tools, stepladders, job specific tools would also be helpful to have in-game.
Again, it's an amazing game and I highly recommend it.

This game is still in early access, and is being developed by 1 person, keep that in mind...
It feels more like an alpha/beta than an early access, while the game is fun, it still has a long way to go, good thing the developer is always listening to us and updating. I can't wait to see how good the game will be in the future :)
(If you don't like the game right now, check it out again in a couple of months, I'm sure it will be much better)

Normally I don't write reviews for games but I noticed that in freeplay you can order bread and meat, saw it up, and make yourself a sandwich. Despite being totally irrelevant to the game, taking a break part way through a project to make a fake sandwich I couldn't eat felt very satisfying

is still early to tell but if the devs stick to it and addon other workshops i.e metal shop, welding, etc. where your able to build anything and test it out would be best vr game.so devs keep it going lets see a full out workshop!!

If you suck at carpentry in real life, you're gonna suck even worse at it in VR.
The atmosphere of the game is both peaceful and unsettling, considering your work is done in a small room with a sleeping bag and some strange posters that wouldn't be out of place in something like The Stanley Parable. To progress after completing your project, you take a red pill to go to sleep and return to a menu where you select your next project from a slide projector. It all feels very late-70s, early-80s and the game and shop room capture it perfectly.
I can't wait to see how this game progresses.

A great sandbox wood building game where the only objective is to have fun and make whatever you want. I've always wanted to do stuff like this, and now I can! Amazing game and worth the price
