Tyrgard - Trial of honor is an intense archery game, full of 'oh crap' moments that test your reaction and precision. I enjoyed this game very much!

So much fun! The bow feels really good, and the enemies are really cool! Also the artstyle is real cool and the atmosphere of the game is really well done.

This is a wave based VR Archery game where you have to defend your village from enemy minions along with your own life. You only have your bow to defend with. You do get to pick a upgrade/spell after a few waves which you can use if you hold an arrow pulled at max strength for a few seconds, but besides that you don't get anything else. The village has it's own HP along with you having separate HP as well. The game ends once you get hit enough, or enough minions reach the villagers.
Controls:
Pressing the A button on your right controller switches which hand is holding the bow, while you use the other hand to pull an arrow back with the other hand via the trigger button. You only stand in one spot, so there's no movement or teleportation, and you also can't rotate in-game.
Pros:
- Variety of different enemies to kill, with some running straight at the entrance to your village, some summoning more minions and others that will attack you directly via projectiles or flying into you.
- Some upgrades do make it easier to deal with groups of enemies or aims arrows for you
- It's cheap at only $3 AU.
Neutral:
- Nothing really stood out either in sound or music
- Some upgrades aren't that good, like the multi-shot upgrade.
- You only stand in one spot, so it can be hard to hit some enemies
Cons:
- Aiming the bow is weird/bad because it mainly follows the hand holding the bow, and it would regularly lose track from time to time or aim in a slightly or completely different direction. I've haven't had this issue in other archery games.
- Once shot, the arrow is pretty quick at the beginning of the shot, then loses alot of it's speed near the end. It wasn't fun to shoot the bow.
- There are no in-game options to change, nor is there any menu. I can't even quit the game unless I access the Oculus menu. (Oculus platforms can't access the steam VR menu in games when the bottom left button is disabled, like this one)
- You can't re-centre where you are in-game, and there are no ways to rotate the camera so you have to rotate IRL.
- It was quite common for the enemy remaining counter to display an extra 1 or 2 minions even though I couldn't find any others.
- If you die and then start again, you'll get this afternoon like glow that doesn't go away.
- The game did bug out on me and fully crash on me, with me having to take my headset off to close the game via desktop.
Summary:
Even though the game is sold for a very cheap price, the amount of issues annoys me too much, even if it was for free I wouldn't recommend it. It's a simple wave based VR Archery game held back by it's aiming issues, bugs and lack of any options.

A cheap price for a few hours of fun. Authentic mechanics when operating the bow and arrow. It is a little tricky to hit the moving targets so there is room for improvement concerning the technique. The visuals are great and I would for sure recommend this game to anyone, who enjoys playing games in VR.

This game is awesome! Fun graphics, fun gameplay, You can clearly feel yourself getting better and better the more you practice, and the upgrades for the bow is a nice touch.
There is a good balance between when to charge the bow and when to do quick arrow barrages.
Would definitely recommend this game.

=> UPDATE
Devs have been proactive at fixing the issues listed and the game feels good!
Will expand my review after playing it more.
=> OLD Review
The game has a cool concept, but it is buggy and feels unfinished.
FIXED: - The bow mechanics are not satisfying. It feel fake and the constant vibration when you pull the string is annoying. There is NO hit animation, targets just turn red for a moment. The bow on the Valve demo form 2016 feels much better.
- FIXED: Unplayable with Index controllers. Arrows randomly fire while the trigger is fully depressed.
FIXED: - Explosion look 2D and fake. There is no animation when you his something with it.
- Nothing groundbreaking about this game.

For most of what this game does, Valve's demo archery minigame does better. Biggest annoyance is that arrow speed+range is based on your draw time (ie. you charge up the arrow by holding it for longer). This makes switching between ranges and shot speeds unintuitive. It should be based on how far back you draw the arrow instead.
EDIT: On further testing, the arrow range/speed is influence by draw, per the dev, but the charged shot mechanic does function in a way that can create unwelcomed inconsistencies between shots. Additionally, I still feel a large inconsistency in the bow mechanics and shot patterns that do not resemble real archery nor exist in other VR archery games out there.

While I like the cell shaded artistic style of this game, I almost have to wonder if too much time was spent on the superficial than the core game mechanics. First, and I know it's stated to be in a "future plans", but I'll say it anyway. This is 2020, don't release a bow game with only one hand supported, not even to EA.. Just don't do it. Second, if you are going to make a bow game in such a packed space, at least get the bow mechanics down first. I love bow titles, and have probably played all of them to date. This one, however, is the first where I felt that the bow action was completely lifeless. It looks decent, but it feels terrible, from the odd pixie dust emitting bolt physics to the draw, drop, and sadly, impact. In the theme of feeling lifeless there is absolutely nothing satisfying about actually hitting your target. If it didn't flash red or fall over dead, you might not even notice that you had hit it at all in fact. The arrows just fly off as if they are in their own anti-gravity field. Fire an arrow up into the sky? Well, unless you lightly strum it, you will never see it fall. Now I am left handed, so admittedly I was annoyed by having to play right handed.. it just sucks in bow games - but given that it was acknowledged as a to-come feature I wanted to give it an honest go. Frankly I struggled to play it long enough to even be able to leave a review as, using my bad hand aside, it was simply not fun. My suggestion to the dev team - you have a decent looking engine and art style, but I would highly suggest taking a few steps back and taking a much closer look at your game mechanics and physics. If you had spent enough time on the core engine, the left handed thing would not be an issue - because you would have proper mounting points, draw variance, offset, and the like. These things are necessary if you really intend to make a fun bow game. Making the bow shoot like a limp pistol with no recoil and a pixie dust tracer is not making it more accessible to the casual player.
The net? I'm sorry to say for the price I expected a lot more of a solid core to be there, and at least a little bit of fun. $15 is a hefty tag for any EA title.. I sincerely hope I am proven wrong and that there are some serious engine improvements to come - but sadly, my instincts are telling me that this is DOA title, and possibly a quick cash grab for an abandoned WIP (Work In Progress).
Oh yeah, and DO NOT release bow games without ambi-support... ever. Or did I say that already? :p
Caveat emptor my friends. Caveat emptor.

I had my doubts about this game at first, but after trying it out i must say, i enjoyed it.
The bow feels really good, and getting that headshot from miles away is so satisfying!
There is room for improvement however and a couple of bugs, but luckily none that are game breaking.
Get this game if you are bored and really need something to play.
I would like to see some ladder board to see how well i did compared to other players.

You know, this game's actually pretty good.
Honestly, I read the other reviews and I almost expected not to like this, but I'm glad I gave it a… Shot ;)
Best part is trying desperately to dodge the spears getting hauled at you from all sides, and just, not being able to hit a single thing (imma need a lot of practice, lol)
EDIT:
They fixed some stuff I complained about, cool.
