I'm a sucker for the NES aesthetic, so this game was an instant buy. And while it does deliver on classic visuals and a banging soundtrack, it's mostly a very pretty shell. The Castlevania formula is fun, but without the nuance of something like Castlevania 3 (powers / different characters / branching paths) there's really not much here. There's a few power ups in particular that are completely underbaked - the block breaking and grappling hook. Pair that design with either super easy or super cheap deaths, and I just cannot recommend this game.
