Wario ware with minigames that coincide and determine story elements. Also multiplayer! it's a weird game, not much about it makes sense, and I already knew it going in. recommended if only to support magicdweedo - but also recommend bc it's a weird party game you can get some friends together to get inebriated with while trying top understand the games, getting progressively more drunk

GOTY 2020, undisputed culinary perfection. Heaven Sent is an atrocious minigame though please remove it

Great soundtrack and art style! The mini games are difficult sometimes but not frustratingly so, and while some of them are similar there's definitely a lot of unique ones. The plot is... odd. The idea of Mealmates is that they are edible humans you need to raise, which in itself is a strange and off putting idea. But it's been executed really well. Everything about it is so weird that the ethical problems that come with the fact that they're edible humans you're raising barely crosses your mind. It's great to see the original Mealmate elaborated on in the form of a full fledged game. Problems: I don't know how to end the extremely long stream of mini games, like I swear I was playing them for what felt like a solid 20-40 minutes before they ended. I'm gonna look at the menus and stuff again to see what I might be doing wrong

Mealmates is a strange, mysterious game that I absolutely adore. Sequel to Mealmate, it's substantially more refined in both that Magicdweedoo style, and, this time around, features a collection of Warioware style minigames. These minigames can be played either solo in story mode, or multiplayer in party mode. Additionally, when you complete story mode once, you can play infinite mode, to level up a mealmate as little or as much as you want, and farm for cash and items. The minigames themselves range from a simple luck check, to fairly engaging and tense, especially in mulitplayer. Some minigames use surprisingly clever mechanics too. While there's no online multiplayer, remote play works fairly well, and can support up to 4 players. Anyways, while it might look like a confusing fever dream when you start, once you explore the city and its unlocks, the various buildings, and the minigames, overtime, it'll start to make sense. Maybe too much sense. tl;dr good game go buy

Do you want to play a party game without breaking friendships? Then mealmates is for you. This sequel is a direct upgrade from the first game, where you can do more than just spoil your mealmate, play minigames and give him away to be eaten. You can customize your mealmate with clothes you can find in the "neighbourhood", cook recipes which can later be bought in the shops and unlock things by completing achievements. The replayability is GOLD, the music is GOLD, the game itself is just GOLD. Worth the money. Some day I will invite my friends to give this a try. 10/10

Having played a little over an hour, I can already see that there's still a bunch of minigames I haven't encountered and a ton of content that I haven't yet seen based on the exploring the world and checking the menus. There's a bunch of stuff I still haven't figured out and I don't know how deep this rabbit hole goes. It's difficult to explain this game beyond "exploratory minigame collection". It's easier to just take the plunge and take a gander for yourself. Recommended if you like minigame collections, extra recommendation if you like experimental games.

Magicdweedoo is one of the most unique developers around. His games are deep, challenging, and full of detail. Mealmates is no exception. If you like minigame games like Warioware, you'll love this. In Mealmates, you (and your friends if you have them) play minigames to earn money to feed your meal mate, which is some kind of anthropomorphic food creature that you eventually must eat. The better your meal mate tastes, the better your score. Mealmates is hard in a good way. In the spirit of Warioware, you're only told enough to not be completely lost, so you won't understand at least half of the minigames your first time through. This is good. Similarly, the meta-game doesn't hold your hand, but let's you discover how the game is meant to be played. The music deserves special mention. Composed by magicdweedoo himself, the music is weird and diverse and yet somehow consistent, and it sets an incredibly unique tone. When I streamed the game people kept commenting how great the music was, and I'm glad I bought the full version that came bundled with the soundtrack. Anyway, look, if you're bored of games that all feel the same, play Mealmates. And while you're at it, play Ticket, which came our a few years ago from the same developer. He makes good games. Play them.
