Somehow a entire game that feels like it was inspired by the ending of that ABC Dinosaurs sitcom is probably one of my favorite narrative games ever.

Great Concept, Terrible Execution, And what is even worse they didn't bother to fix any of those abrupt sound cuts and visual bugs and it is 2025. It is sad how they wasted potential, it deserves a remake/redo (not gonna talk about SG it is a different story). I'll positive review it just in spite of my previous words cause the audio and visuals are great. On the finishing note why the fuck is it so expensive for so little content it is worth half of the price at that stage they left it.

This is a wonderful game that ends up being more than the sum of its parts. The game's plot plays it pretty safe, sticking to the typical story beats of the "last year of high school" genre (battle of the bands! my parents don't get me! my best friend and I are drifting apart! one of my friends is into tarot cards! etc.). But the thoughtfulness and earnestness of the storytelling, along with some truly charismatic voice acting, manage to rescue the game from feeling cliché. Visually, the game hits way above its weight for an indie studio: the character designs, animation and background art are all really top notch. It feels like a game made by an art department of at least a hundred people, not just a dozen or so. Even though I found them incongruous at first, I understood by the end of the game that the rhythm game mechanics were actually... fun, and also necessary to really drive home the stakes of each musical performance. And speaking of music, the pop/rock songs in the sound track are elegant, ethereal, fun, catchy and full of yearning—a perfect match for the game's characters and the tone of the storytelling. "Goodbye Volcano High" isn't a flashy game. But the care and love that the developers put into each of the game's elements is evident at all times, and those elements come together beautifully to create a really special experience. Recommended!
