Goodbye Volcano High - a review of mine
I'd like to start off with the negatives. The game.. is woke, that's going to be something I'd like to point out. The MC (Fang) is non-binary, there's the occasional hint at someone's sexuality, Fang's family is hinted to come from a different region (I THINK, TAKE THIS GUESS LIGHTLY). But I did not dwell on this fact too long, because, why? This doesn't change anything for me. Bugs. There are bugs (literally and technologically). One of them is the UI bugging tf out occasionally, or when playing with say, a PS4 controller - the game shows XBOX layouts. However, once again, while it did kinda suck - I didn't pay much mind, as during quick-time events, it also shows where on the controller a button is. (Plus, I'm sure all of us know where the two sticks on a controller are.) Additionally, while this is more of an over/underlooked error, the VA tends to cut off prematurely, or the intonation rises when it should really be lowering during the end of sentences. (voice pitch, basic grammar). Aside from these few issues, I didn't really find anything that irked me. Positives (subjective): I really liked the characters, I found them very pretty (and cute), and quickly felt myself be attached to 'em. (Fang in particular). The game is also quite creative, I enjoyed the quick-time stuff during songs, the songs themselves (I listen to them constantly). Hell, when the band was doing their performances, I felt myself grow excited and stressed as well, which is a plus in my book. I found the story and premise to be quite nice, and if anything, very saddening in my opinion, I don't know about you - but the whole world ending thing kinda shook me, and made me realize how important it is to have someone you can rely on. The art and animation god damn shocked me. It felt like I was watching an interactive Netflix show, rather than playing some dumb ol' visual novel, and I was all for it. Everything is very nicely and neatly drawn. What could be improved: - Would be nice if photos stuck around after as part of collectibles, though knowing what the game is about, kinda makes sense they don't. - Replayable mini-games. MY GOD, I want to be able to replay the songs with the minigames. I don't have much else to recommend, though. I loved this game, and I'm glad I bought it (buy it for 20$ when it's on sale). It was a beautiful experience to me, and I freaking cried. Thank you, developers for releasing this amazing game. With that, I say, Goodbye, Volcano High.

This game is like taking the walking dead games, guitar hero, and I Wani Hug the Gator! and mushing them all up into the same amazing game nearing the end of a civilization as a whole- had i never found this game i think i would be a completely different person.

BEFORE YOU BUY: If you came from Snoot Game be warned that it is not anything like that, other than the familiar faces this is basically a completely different universe. The characters are completely different personality wise and humans don't even exist, don't buy this game if you are looking for more Snoot, this isn't it. With that out of the way, while the game does have sometimes poor voice overs and the game is a bit buggy, it is a very sweet and melancholy rhythm/ telltale game. The game only really has one ending and the choices you make affect the characters around you rather than the direction the story goes, but I would buy it if it ever goes on sale. The story is a mix of friend drama, stress for the future, and the hopelessness of accepting the end of the world. It is a woke game with characters being trans or gay although that didn't bother me, and the rhythm game portions are fun although a bit easy. Also the songs are available on Spotify and they are very good so I recommend giving them a listen :)

This game got me really connected to the characters, to the story and how all the characters feel with the end. It hurt my soul that this game is so short but so good, felt really sad and empty that this game was over. But I'm happy that this game came on my path and that I experienced it, I'll never forget it and I'll always love it!

The game itself is flawed as fuck, but the soundtrack is genuinely enjoyable. Dabu does universally good work, and if you're a fan of alt shit some of the tracks are pretty nice. More than a handful of GVH's songs have ended up in my playlist. also TO MY FELLOW SNOOTERS; If it weren't for GVH then Snoot wouldn't be a thing... and neither would Wani.

I'm gonna preface this with saying, I'm someone who played I wani hug that gator first and then snoot game after that. I love wani, and enjoyed snoot. I'm also nonbinary, and have been since early highschool. I'm not here to talk about the controversy between these games nor do I want to. I just wanna give wani/snoot players an idea of this game. I think this game is very good. The art, the music, the voice acting, the ending, the rhythm portions, the LnL segments. all of that is absolutely fantastic. Fang in particular is i think a great character. I love everything about them in this game, their personality, their design, their va. awesome. potentially better than snoot's fang, though they are extremely different characters. (That being said, if you go into this expecting all the characters to have their snoot personalities, they are very different for most of the cast.) also the gameplay is definitely different. its still mostly a visual novel with choices that affect your relationships with others. but there are excellent rhythm game sections interspersed through it as well (kinda wish there was more tbh) as for criticisms, the game is way too short. i think you don't really get what you pay for, so i can only really recommend this game at a sale price. i bought it for 20 bucks and i think that was a decent price. also i wish the story was slightly different, and you got to individually choose who you hung out with in between band sections. sort of like how night in the woods does it if you've ever played that. (great game btw). also certain things related to trish and naomi i really didn't like. especially naomi. (she sucks in every universe apparently) but that's more so gripes about specific story beats that isn't really relevant here. the first couple of hours kinda drag too, but once you get to the first LnL session the game shoots up in quality for writing and characters. Which is a shame that it took so long for that to happen. right before the first LnL session, I was complaining to my friends about how i want to like the game, but none of the cast was that interesting to me despite playing for around 2 hours at that point. which is way too long for a game to get good when the game is only roughly 6 hours long. overall, if you're a wani/snoot fan. i think you should absolutely play this game. show some respect to the original creators that gave rise to a different great set of games and fangames. plus i think the good really outweighs the bad. (i cannot stress enough how amazing the art, voice acting, and ending are.) So yeah, good game. I do wish there were a few things different, and i think if they took this a slightly different direction it would be an S tier game. but for now its a 7/10 also for those who haven't played snoot or wani and played this game first. i really don't recommend snoot, at least not at first. the game is great but has some serious issues with how they portray fangs identity. the creators have since said that they wish they could rewrite how they did fangs identity in snoot now that they know more about gender identity, which is nice. Wani is a fantastic game i definitely recommend.
