I quite liked this game. I devoured it over the space of a week or two, and I feel I'm done, but I enjoyed it. The good: - The bones of the combat are good. The sword swinging animations are nice and fluid. The dash animation is satisfying. I enjoy that you need to time the dash to multi-dash rather than just spamming the dash key. You don't need to be great at the combat, but it does help. - There is a wide variety of sects to choose from. Something like 9 gods with 2 sects each. Half are constrained to an element. I don't feel like any are too strong, but some are definitely stronger than others. Each sect has upgrades unique to the sect, which makes for a wide variety of playstyles. - I like how flying swords are handled. The 'break' mechanic means you don't just mindlessly shoot them (do i shoot all my swords and make the break happen and get in close to recall them, or do i shoot just enough to mark them for break before recalling them?) - The artifact system is cool, with a lot of variety and synergies between them. I enjoy building these builds. - The translation for the game is pretty good. It's obviously not by an English-first-language-speaker, but there aren't any errors or misleading descriptions. However, some names of abilities/artifacts/skills had been changed between updates, and they are not always updated properly on their dependancies (such as weapons or talismans). But you can just google most of them. The bad: - Balance, of course. It's hard to balance a game like this. I was never really challenged by the game until I got to the very last difficulty in the End of Karma DLC, which just gave up and made everything super spongy. It wasn't a pleasant experience, but I still wanted to do them because this is the only difficulty with stronger boss battles. - There are no hints on how to unlock some artifacts and lore snippets. Perhaps hints on them could be considered? - I really don't like the talisman system in End of Karma. It's just bad. There is so much RNG involved. And looking through hundreds of talismans, comparing their passives along with the stats buffed is just droll. Please put in a way to sort them according to stats/passives/etc. Please make unique symbols for each unique red talisman buff. Each symbol has two and you can get caught out. Please let me favourite some talismans. At least lock the RNG Stats to increments of 5% and use symbols for each one, just to make it easier to read. I also don't like that it forces you into either melee + tank/utility or flying sword + tank/utility. Why do I have to ditch one or the other to get the red talismans? It just feels unnecessarily constraining. - Various QOL problems: --- The talking text boxes sometimes block me from reading some small scroll upgrades from the harp (shushin?) lady. its annoying waiting for this bitch to finish talking before I can read what half of the scrolls do. --- Text boxes for talismans can overflow above the screen, making some parts unreadable --- Names are not always consistent. Weapons and Talismans seem to have some outdated names when referencing skills or artifacts for their dependancies. Some weapons have 'when you have a artifact and b artifact, you get c effect' but it actually means 'when you have a artifact OR b artifact, you get c effect'. --- You can skip the rewards in later stages, but not in earlier stages. When my speed is too high I have skipped some rewards accidentally. --- Not all status effects are explained. The difference between poison and toxic is not explained. some of the later artifact exclusive frostbite and fireburn or whatever are not explained properly. - Enemy animation timings are really weird. --- Melee mobs will wait like a full 5 seconds before launching their attack. That means no matter how strong they are, none of the small melee mobs are any actual threat. --- Some mobs like the ninjas are a lot more lethal than they should be, since they have little buildup for their attacks. --- Midbosses are a lot more threatening than the end of stage bosses, both in normal warm snow and End of Karma DLC. This is because main boss attacks are well telegraphed (while still being hard to dodge). Midboss attacks have both shorter and more subtle telegraphs which require you to get used to the bosses. But! theres never that sense of 'my turn your turn' for the bosses. Overall, I enjoyed them. I wish there were more human sized bosses. They tend to provide a better experience. Overall, good game. I like. Autism brain go brrr
