Egomaniac like i am i got this game bc my name's evelyn... But it was also one of my first "rpgmaker"-kind of games and it was a nice ease into the genre. Theres a lot less fighting than the trailer makes it seem though. All in all its short and pretty good, ending was a bit unsatisfactory but otherwish i enjoyed it!

So I bought this game hoping it would be another Bleeding Moons or Space Pilgrim, which are some of my favorites, but it turned out to be a disappointment. If I didn't buy it at 80% discount, I would probably asking for a refund. It looked really interesting from the description and the story has a lot of potential, I was actually exited to see it unfold when the gameplay ruined everything. The main problem of the game is that the world is mostly not interactive, you walk around a lot with little purpose and the NPC are also mostly decorative. The puzzles are simple and they don't make up in charm, like in Space Pilgrim for example. I reached a point where I just got too bored walking around to continue playing, so this is a partial review. I'll update if I ever finish the game.

Lovely game. The story is compelling and the voice acting is incredible. Plenty to do to keep you engaged while completing main quests, but not so much that it's at all overwhelming.
Quick note on the ending:
Ends on a cliffhanger so if you like things to wrap up nicely, wait on this one
So this was a tough one because I really enjoyed the game until the very end. But the game ends in a horrible cliffhanger and the sequel will be a a first person 2.5D Game, so something completley different which means I will never know how the story continues. It is not a bad game but since the ending leaves you unsatisfied I sadly can not recommend it. Which is sad because the mechanics are nice, the characters interesting and the VA on point.

For Evelyn is a story-rich game that captivates you with impressive voice acting, a light skill system, characters with personality, beautiful artwork, an enjoyable soundtrack, fun side quests, several maps & towns, an emotional & interesting story as well as lore that you can collect and reread.

Good game with a nice narrative and clean pace. Chapter I had some really nice visual moments that got me hooked into the narrative.
The characters feel fleshed out... depending on the character. Yohanna, the main character, is interesting and flawed and human. Other characters, like Lilith the demon girl and Violet the cat girl, feel like anime tropes, but maybe you like that.
The questing and experience-gaining is not very in-depth, but that works. I first thought the game would have a ton of crafting and questing because of the GUI, but generally that stuff only comes up when the story requires it.
The music is soothing and fitting, and the voice acting is great.
It's a light package that doesn't waste too much time or dive too deep into mechanics and exploration, but it's very enjoyable.

Great game. While some of the pixel hunting in the point & click adventure parts were as frustrating as it always is, the writing more than made up for it. Really interesting storyline, worldbuilding, and while some of the characters were a bit meh, Yohanna was a very compelling protagonist. Looking forward to the DLC in a bit and then hopefully a sequel. Highly recommend.

Launching the game, and suddenly it's 5 hours later...
Lovely little game! Story, voice acting, music, I'm enjoying it all. And I adore these fun little details, few names on gravestones for example definitely made me chuckle. Finding the bits of lore for the world is nice, and they have just the perfect amount of text.
Map of one area was a little bit difficult to follow but that might be a me-issue, combined with 3am and stubbornness to find the last plant for a side quest..
Must go back for all the achievements...

Though I would recommend this game, only barely.
The story is short, which is fine, but it's hard to really care about any of the characters outside of Yohanna. I do feel like they tried to put a lot more into the story than might've been worth for such a sort game. The UI and Items could've been worked on a bit longer. They are very out of place compared to the rest of the games art and graphics. Seemed rushed.
Though the story and character's didn't really do it for me, I did enjoy the art and music of the game. The pixel backgrounds were phenomenal! And I very much did enjoy the little things in the game such as jokes and references.

The game has a pretty good story, if not a little predictable. Despite this I still found it interesting and the characters very engaging. I wish there were more choices for the main story, and not just side quests having different outcomes, but hopefully that's something added in later entries.
Of note: The game is STORY HEAVY. VERY STORY HEAVY. For someone like me, I loved it. But just be warned if you're not into that.
The only bad thing is the game ends on a HUGE cliffhanger. Like...it seems like more will be coming, but then credits, and an after credits scene. I understand WHY it's like that but it's still a bit jarring. I'm hoping planned DLC kinda smooths out that roughness, though.
The voice acting was absolutely fantastic. Everyone was perfectly cast. Like, no joke. The voices 100% matched how the characters looked and acted. I was surprised and just wish the entire game had voice overs (apparently the game was not 100% voice acted due to budget constraints).
The combat is more or less the same from start to finish, with you using either magic, healing, or dodging attacks. There's little variety here. I found it serviceable, but not very engaging. Maybe if there were more elements to it, such as how to dodge, enemies being weak to certain magics, controlling your party members (you can only control the MC)...etc. It's the weakest point of the whole, but thankfully it doesn't take up a huge chunk of the game so it's easily overlooked.
There is a note about the game being slightly rushed, with planned content coming, but it actually feels pretty damn polished. It's not perfect, but it's still highly enjoyable.
Final thoughts? Excellent game from this dev. It feels polished but lacking in some regards. Not perfect, but still worth the time to play and experience this neat start to what feels like a much bigger story.
Oh, and go check out https://store.steampowered.com/app/1402400/Arcanbreak/ It's a sort of prequel to the game that helps set the lore, but is NOT necessary to enjoy this game whatsoever.
