The Odd Neon Void is a surreal experience of a... game, you are told nothing about how to play other than through trial and error, the bugs can teleport to "nothing personal kid" you, and the ending breaks the game to the need of alt f4. [i] My Experience [/i] I found the Odd Neon Void when looking for new, experimental games that seem like they touch on psychology. The game certainly has a unique throwback style, and it is clear that your protagonist is experiencing SOMETHING, but I found the game neither enjoyable nor engaging. You'll spend most of your time slowly moving through large mazes, attacking bugs that seem to teleport around you as you approach. The hit detection on your weapon is awful and always out-of-sync. You'll eventually locate an exit, where you'll be teleported to another bland maze. You can also locate written letters in each level, that are intended to give you some context for your current predicament. The letters were the most interesting part of the game, but the rest of the experience was so slow and un-engaging that I wasn't very motivated to find them. I think I found perhaps two during my time with the game. I also had one of the 3D encounters (like the one you see in the screenshots on the store page), but this wasn't much better than the 2D "real-time" combat. I think I "finished" a playthrough of the game, but I'm unsure. In the description, the developer mentions that there are multiple endings. However, I wasn't inclined to hop back in for another ride. The other reviewers seemed to enjoy the game, so perhaps my opinion is a minority one. Either way, I'd recommend that the developer make the levels a bit more interesting, tighten up the combat, and provide clues a bit more regularly as to the surreal or metaphorical story he or she is trying to tell.

Ok I'll leave a short review since this game seems new and I think it needs it. First of all it is not really worth the full €2,39 price, I'd suggest to buy it when it is below €1. It is a very basic maze game with three levels: The first one is the one I'd call the real "Neon Void", with vaporwave colors and the highest number of monsters The second one is a forset, which I couldn't rellay explore that much since I found the exit pretty quickly The third one reminds of a sunset for its colors and I guess it is when you get to choose wether you get the bad or de good ending depending on your actions in this level. Battles consists of few random encounters with basic battle commands. I didn't really get how to improve your stats because I only have one full run at this moment. The "plot" (touching one, which I however will not spoil) is delivered by some notes you find hidden in the levels; sadly I missed all the ones in the forest since I found the exit sooner and didn't feel like exploring that much since I'm pretty bad at this. It's an ok game, worth half its price. Buy it for almost an hour of old DOS games nostalgia and an important message.

Found this game while it was on sale - I'm sorry for the dislike but it's much too bare-bones — with it lacking any music and poor fighting mechanics, but having what seems to be notes in some parts of the levels presumably attempting to tell some kind of underlying story. It's not terrible, just needs improvement is all. The walk speed is far too slow. It's unclear whether what I got was an ending or not, as it softlocked the game and I had to alt-f4. As of the time of writing, I haven't gotten any of the other endings besides the one where [spoiler] Jack takes his pills and gets back to bed. [/spoiler] But to anyone seeing this review, don't let this negative view discourage you from playing the game, while it needs improvement, it's not horrible, just a bit tedious and feels somewhat unfinished. I really do think it's still worth a play or two, but maybe catch it when it's on sale like I did.
