DENIAL Reviews
Denial takes place inside your own dark mind, true or false, illusion or reality... It doesn't matter. It all feels the same and the stains on the walls still remain, maybe now it is time to clean them.

Thats is my understanding from the game: the main character who can not choose the side of good or evil, his soul is divided into two parts. Imagine a situation where everything that you believed in for many years just becomes a lie. The main character in the game is an unstable person, and as for the gameplay, everything is simple here. You have to explore the world around you, solve simple physical puzzles, look for key objects, like in a quest, read notes and look for clues about what to do next, and just move forward. During the passage of the game you will visit various rather strange locations and gloomy places.
In the end you will find two differnt endings.

I think the positive reviews are false, the game is terrible, probably the worst horror game in my library.
Get away from it!

Edit. SInce I did get a response I did decide to redownload and try again and after the update the problem was resolved and I was able to complete the game.In any case I will not be changing this review rating to be fair as I wouldn't hit the like button and recommend this game but it also wasn't horrible either 3.7/10. if you want a quick mediocre low budget game with a bit of jump scares, and I did like the music then get it, but on sale. I would delete this but through this you do see developers care to improve, do...and with that eventually will make a better game given the budget, time and experience.
Original post: Please do not buy this game as it is now. I will probably be unable to refund this game as it's past two weeks and this is an unplayable game. Let's call it level 4 with xyz rooms that you have to unlock....I fell through the floor repeatedly when trying to unlock door z...everytime you have to restart the level when this happens....so I am unable to continue because of this falling through multiple floor levels and it loading but not doing anything...DO NOT BUY THIS GAME it is a waste of your money. I also had this problem when it pulled me out of the train as it blows up and died but that only happened once and it loaded me back on the train to retry.

In 36 minutes, I could not get engaged in the "story". There's a whole lot of walking (in unnecessary semi-darkness), not much doing. So far, it is a pill and Rorschach test quest. Not impressed. No desire to continue.

This game has potential. There is a decent mechanic idea of having to use pills to help the player have smoother gameplay and if you take too long your vision gets distorted and blurry. The game also has typical puzzle solving in horror games find things and fix things to progress. The atmosphere is pretty decent but some of the "encounters" are lack luster in the spook department. Although i was not paying too close attention the story so I can't comment on that aspect of the game. I think this game is pretty decent but $15 is a bit much i could see pushing $10 but maybe the free DLC coming out will make it worth it. For now I can't recommend it because of the price but as always you can judge for yourself with a taste of gameplay:

This is different from my earlier reviews. I have beaten the game. The video is edited to show story points and random thing I was doing while play but still only shows part of the game and not the thing.

What if you lied to yourself and it was so strong that you couldn't remember your previous self but then one day it started all started to crack then who would you become? That's pretty much what Denial is all about. However, the game doesn't do a great job at telling you anything. Are the worlds you are walking though part of your past life, present life, or neither? The game just makes you feel like you are going through arbitrary levels to go through to get to the end of the game. Very little is explained and then wrapped up at the end with a two choice ending and both are lackluster. You can also find some tiles with single words on them adding up to a sentence about your character. There are also ink blots to find for an achievement I guess but no achievements are given in the game. There are far more titles out there that will give you a better experience than Denial did.

It's a no from. Whilst in many ways it's admirable what this small team have tried to achieve, ultimately it falls flat.
Instead of coming across as minimal, it instead comes off as amateurish. The graphics and level design aren't great. The monster isn't threatening, the voice acting is janky, and whilst there is nothing game breaking it's still quite buggy. These bugs run the gamut from just slightly immersion breaking e.g. sound effects kicking in at odds volumes, to downright frustrating e.g. constantly clipping through a train and out onto the tracks and dying repeatedly.
And the story is confusing and the bits that are clear aren't great.
Also the DLC is a silly survival mode where you go about turning off radios for no reason, and giving you even closer up views of the monster which makes any sense of mystique and horror go out the window.
Whilst certainly not the worst horror game on steam, there's very little to recommend here to make it worth your time or money. Avoid.
