This sequel was a BLAST to play. Being a Polynesian man, i enjoyed the Polynesian themed people of Mahana Village. The monster roster is about give or take three times the size of the first game. The turn based RPG mechanics are refined and deepened in a way that improves from its predecessor. More weapons available this time around. The story was good. Tho I enjoyed the first games story just a little better. The online multiplayer is such a great way to connect, play with and or challenge other players. Great game, great sequel.

Took me almost three years to get back into this game and honestly, I'm not sure why I dropped it all those years before its a lot of fun!

pretty fun strategy game with the rock, paper, scissors based combat. with the egg collecting is a lot more interesting and getting excited with golden caves. otherwise pretty good.

An inferior version of the first game. The gameplay has improved but everything else is less interesting than the first game. Not bad but also not good. It's clear the corporate vision had taken over a little bit during development. There's tons of dialogue and cutscenes. The art direction and color palette are also weaker and more washed out. I would still play it but not as eagerly as the first game.

Gameplay is very enjoyable, side-quests are many and mostly pointless. The story is actually pretty good, even if it can take quite a while to go through. Awesome game 👍

I wanted to like the game. I genuinely wanted to. To start, I usually don't play JRPGs and maybe that's a big reason why I ended up dropping this title after a while. The most JRPG I've played are the Persona games. For the most part, the combat plays fine. It has some complexity in it, but there's also some randomness to it that you have to compensate for by switching out your monstie and your weapon type mid-battle as you go. It's mostly those two things that I dislike. Some monsters are resistant to two weapon types and I suddenly have to choose between those or a weapon type that works but uses an element that the enemy is resistant to. The monster is going to use an attack type that will beat out my monster's primary attack type, but the monstie that specializes in that attack type is weak to the element the enemy monster is using. I really dislike this aspect of the battle system. There are definitely ways to build around it and it seems like that's where the bulk of the gameplay is focused. You'd have to get a bunch of eggs and hopefully get the monstie genes you want and transfer those over. Egg hunting just feels far too tedious to me and I don't find it fun. It feels too much like a gacha game. The story is probably the worst offender. It's not that it's bad, it's just extremely simple. It makes me think that this game is primarily made with kids in mind and that's fine, but it's not something I could personally sit through. A lot of people like this game, but I'm unfortunately not one of those people. The monstie gene building process feels too tedious and the battle system has elements of randomness I really dislike. There's a well working system here, I just didn't find it fun in the end.

Wings of Ruin does have some strengths to it that's easily noticeable and will keep going for some time. The story may not be like totally groundbreaking, but what it does offer is crafted with love and is geared to both not only the fans but newcomers to the series as well. I can fully honestly say that this definitely isn't your typical Monster Hunter game, but it's more of a mixture between a RPG and Pokemon type of game and it truly makes it it's own kind of wonderful game. The Monster Hunter Stories 2's story along with the game-play work in tandem to make this entry a big standout in the franchise as well as in the creature collection genre as a whole. The game-play is addictive, beautiful, well done, and the story along with the characters kept me invested in the finer details of the world. Plus, there's plenty to do after you've completed the story. If you're intrigued about the series as a whole or just a fan who's wondering if it's worth your while; I say give this one a shot and I promise you that it won't let you down. Now the story does strongly echoes it's predecessor, the upgraded visuals and character designs keep the experience engaging and addictive. The game's difficulty has been finely tuned for the better, which in return, makes the in-depth first-run exploration optional (which I would do just saying). However, for non-Monster Hunter fans, it will still deliver a satisfying hunting experience that will leave you wanting more. So in the end I would have to say that I would highly say yes, I do recommend this game and yes, it's worth it.
