Been obsessed with this game since middle school, and was so glad when I realized they remastered it. Although I heavily recommend going through this game with a guide in order to maximize the amount of bad ends you can get (they're the best part!), running around the halls of an abandoned school like a chicken with your head cut off feels more true to the spirit of the game. Excited to play the sequel when I have the time.

really enjoyed revisiting Corpse Party in its latest version. While I didn’t find a ton of new content compared to the PSP version I played back in 2011, it still holds up as an unsettling, emotional, and genuinely creepy experience.
The game gives you a range of choices that directly affect how the story plays out, leading to multiple endings—some tragic, some downright horrifying. It makes every decision feel high-stakes, especially when you grow attached to the characters (and believe me, you will). The story doesn’t just hand you terror—it builds it, using tension, audio, and just enough visual restraint to let your imagination fill in the worst parts.
Set in a haunted school with a disturbingly sad backstory, Corpse Party masterfully blends emotional storytelling with psychological horror. It doesn’t rely on cheap scares—it gets under your skin and stays there.
What makes this game even more special is the legacy it carved out. It’s one of the pioneers of RPG Maker horror, and it deserves major respect for how much it inspired an entire generation of indie horror titles. You can feel its influence in so many games that came after, and this version is a great reminder of just how powerful and ahead of its time Corpse Party really was.
If you’re new to the series, this is a perfect introduction. And if you’re returning like me, it’s a chilling walk down memory lane that still manages to break your heart and twist your stomach in the best way.

This game is nothing short of brilliant... in terms of story. On the other hand the gameplay (in my opinion) is bullshit. Trying to find endings or get the correct ending??? I hope you're ready to ping pong your head from the game to a walkthrough as almost the smallest variable can set you up for a different ending HOURS IN ADVANCE WITH NO WARNING.
The "puzzles" as well are incredibly frustrating as half of them boil down to running around the school constantly trying to find out where the new objective is and eventually, as I said before, resorting to a walkthrough because of course you do. Actually, matter of fact, chapter 5 was so convoluted and confusing I just ended up watching the walkthrough for the rest of it and seeing the endings on YouTube.
Now listen, you may he curious. If im doing all this bitching about the game, why would I reccomend it. I want you to think about how fucking insanely good the story of this game has to be for me to go through all of THAT... and still reccomend it.

I guess I never wrote a review for this game. I played it back in 2023, and honestly, it was an amazing experience. It had me hooked from start to finish—like, seriously, I think I finished it in just two days. The story really pulls you in with its suspense, horror, and emotional moments, making it hard to put down.
The atmosphere is incredibly well done, with the eerie sound design and music adding so much tension. The pixel art and CGs are also fantastic, really bringing the characters and horrifying moments to life. If you're into psychological horror with a gripping narrative, this game is a must-play.
If you're hesitant about the price, definitely wait for a sale, but honestly, it's worth it. You won’t be disappointed.

An excellent remake of the 2016 Steam version that puts us in control of a group of students trapped in a school haunted by vengeful spirits.
Positive points:
- Since it’s a 2D game, it doesn’t require a powerful computer to run.
- The gameplay is simple and effective, as you just need to move around and interact with the environment to progress.
- The story is both poignant and engaging, though it clearly draws heavy inspiration from traditional Japanese ghost stories.
- Controller support is available, which, while not a major change from keyboard/mouse, is always a nice option.
- Some minor story additions have been made compared to the 2016 version.
- The artwork and CGs are very well done.
- Achieving 100% completion is relatively easy, as long as you're willing to put in the time.
- The game’s length is appropriate for its price, as it takes around 30 hours to complete.
Negative points:
- The game isn’t actually scary, despite what one might expect. It seems to rely more on shock value than true fear.
- The language choices for the subtitles are extremely limited.
- You can only have five save files, which is frustrating when trying to unlock all endings, as it sometimes forces you to restart an entire chapter (especially the last one, which has ten possible endings).
- The voice acting is decent, but it’s incredibly annoying to hear the girls constantly screaming with their overly high-pitched voices.
- Some characters are likable, but others (especially the female ones) are poorly written. There's even a chapter where a girl repeatedly beats up one of her classmates just because he forgot an important event. The same goes for Ayumi, who, despite her good intentions, takes pleasure in scaring her friends with ghost stories, treats Yoshiki poorly even though he does everything to protect her, and even has an ending where
she kills Naomi out of pure jealousy
. It’s hard to feel bad for a character like that when misfortune befalls them.
- Some Extras serve no real purpose or add little to the story. Some of them don’t even have gameplay—just reading.
- The OSTs are good but don’t contribute to the supposed eerie atmosphere.
- The HP system is almost useless (only used in two Extras), since in the main story, any contact with spirits, malevolent entities, or traps results in instant death.
- Some puzzles are not intuitive at all, particularly the clues given by the doll found by Yoshiki and Ayumi.
- Nametags are a real pain to find, especially since there are 40 in the last chapter alone! Some have no indication of where they are, and others must be collected while the player is under time pressure. Honestly, don’t even bother collecting them—they only contribute to achievement completion and add nothing significant to the story.
This 2021 remake successfully preserves the atmosphere of the 2016 version. Despite its frustrating save system and some poorly written characters, its strongest point remains its tragic yet deeply compelling story. There's no doubt that horror fans will enjoy this game—provided they can overlook its obvious flaws.

Corpse Party 2021 is a remake & enhanced version of Corpse Party PSP (which is also a remake of the original Corpse Party 1996 for PC-98)
+ Fun gameplay
+ Good & interesting story with some extra stories (The final extra story is interesting because
it sets 10 years after the main event (game mentioned quarantine & virus, so I guess it's after Covid)
)
+ CG arts are as violent as the original (PSP) and I love it
+ Better & professional voice actors (some voices have binaural/stereo audio, made me goosebumps)
+ Free PDF artbook visualizing how the students died in the game (both the main characters and other corpses you found in game)
- You can't sprint in this game, so exploring the school is kinda slow
- You can't open the backlog dialogues or quicksave in the visual-novel style cutscenes. There's no autoplay button in cutscenes as well, so most people might accidentally skip the voice dialogues
- Weird large border screen in the game, making the game screen looks small
- Some ending paths kinda not make sense. You do something small stuff but it leads you to different endings (you'll understand if you read the guides)
My personal score: 7.5/10
I feel like the PSP version is better because of the gameplay, but this version has more & enhanced story
