A fantastic retro platformer that overstays its welcome and that dampers your sense of accomplishment close to its closure. I love difficult games. I love retro games. I love platforms. I have described this game to friends as Celeste with moderately generous checkpoints. For someone like me, that is an important detail. I like difficult games that do not punish me by making me feel like I have lost significant blocks of time because checkpoints are too far apart. This game does not have that problem. The platforming is difficult, the bosses are great, the music is fantastic and the levels are well thought out… Until Zone 9. Zone 9 opens with this bullshit pogo stick, and you can feel like the devs suddenly decided to turn a fantastic, well crafted platformer into the most annoying gauntlet of spikes and death of all time. The game overstays its welcome. The boss at the end of zone 8 was difficult and fantastic, and the game would have been a near flawless platformer if it ended there. What follows afterwards is a slew of extremely tiring platforming sections where the difficulty depends on the randomness of shifting platforms and hazards rather than precision platforming. My personal bias is that difficulty from randomness is frustrating, and difficulty that demands precision is a lot more satisfying because you can calculate how to tackle an obstacle. The game is amazing until you beat the boss at the end of zone eight. After that, it is pure frustration. Also the achievements are bugged. Fair warning for anyone who cares about that. I beat the game and got the best ending and none of the achievements unlocked.

Amazing platformer, 10/10, great movement, fantastic music, cool artstyle. Saw someone comparing this to Celeste C-side difficulty, I strongly disagree with that this game is significantly easier and much less punishing, it's still challenging just not nearly on that level.
