Destined to be one of the great PC gaming experiences. Amazing music, gameplay, level design (except for
The school level, probably one of the weakest levels overall in the game.
, gunplay, voice-acting, humor, and puzzles (although I'd really
Love to see the physics puzzles worked on abit. Every time I did a physics puzzle I felt like I could never get something at the right angle and it was extremely janky overall.
Buy this game. Worth $20 easily and worth at least double that. Overall devs probably one of the best experiences I've had with an FPS since DUSK. Love the game, godspeed, and can't wait until it's out. (look into the audio bug with NPCs though so I can keep playing ;) For the devs and anybody who cares, spoilers and bugs below:
Bugs: FPS drops in a lot of places, especially the wierd necron-binary world after kicking open a chest. Map clipping into the void or having sections appear underwater when they are not (mostly during the fish thing level and the level before the engineer fight). My audio for a lot of the voice acting either doesn't play, gets cut out, or the volume randomly goes down then goes back to max after a bit. I just got to the underground base/train area and I can't get the dialogue to play. I may have to wait until this gets patched to continue playing as I really enjoy the plot and wish I could hear the dialogue with the NPCs. After the otis fight I had otis's health bar still at the station level and at times throughout the game text such as "red keycard aquired" would not leave my screen. My foot animation also got stuck when I was playing from time to time next to the gun model. My feedback so far: The spider hitboxes are hard to hit. My foot never hits and my bullets seem to miss alot. The same goes for some of the creatures when I used the sniper rifle. The spaceship area I had almost no ammo the entire time, maybe I just suck, but I loved the change in concept and direction and I wish I could fight the enemies. Some of the boss fights too like the maintenance core I had barely any ammo either even though I scoured the room. The ladders seem really janky. I can never climb them right and my character either ends up losing a ton of momentum or clipping into the wall abit and coming to a full stop. The same goes for leaving water to go onto a ledge. Some of the level layout can be really disorientating (the one leading up to the evil engineer guy where you're bouncing back between floors, and the school level mentioned above. Most of the early levels are amazing, and overall I absolutely love the level design, but as the game goes into the wierd necron-void/spaceship puzzle area I felt it hard to try to find out where I'm going and I backtracked alot. Every 0.2 seconds a necron-zombie spawned on me in the void. I would love to see it wait a second as I couldn't platform well when I had 10 guys spawn on me instantly (was funny, but still). Physics puzzle are janky especially on the spaceship level when you need to stack boxes and such to proceed. (very minor complaint) I saw the red button when the AI said hit it and didn't even hear the dialogue for the blue button until It cut into the loading screen. Maybe have them behind glass and you need to kick it or something so you hear the dialogue? Great boss fights!
Played a few hours and it was a blast, the game is quirky and just fun to play! Kur doesn't take itself too seriously and allows itself to be wacky without overdoing it which is refreshing.
Pros
- Gameplay, fast and fluid - The freaking boot! Mobility, weapon, friend, it does it all - Lots of content and murder bots to kill - Wacky story & lore (subtitles!) - Soundtrack - Good level variety
Cons
- Early Access so it has some bugs - Could be more optimized - Level stats don't appear to be accurate (I can kill more enemies than the end level screen reads) - Upgrade System could use a bit of polish

I was excited to try Kur out now that the game is out of early access, but before even starting a new game I was already encountering bugs. This continued when I actually started to play and it only took me a couple minutes to decide the game was not in a playable state. I'm bewildered that the devs thought the game was in an acceptable state to enter full release, hell it feels like an alpha. To make matters worse, in the small amount of time I played, the gunplay was very bland. I will give it another try at some point in the future when it is hopefully in a better, more playable state.

I am baffled that this game is considered to be fully released or that it's apparently ended up there after receiving "feedback," because the only "feedback" I want to offer at this point is "start over from scratch." Rather than being gracefully low-fi like, say, Dusk, this feels like one of those misbegotten cash-in abominations from the early 3D era. Movement feels floaty and imprecise, weapons feel weak and unsatisfying, enemy AI is non-existent(sometimes they kill themselves when I'm not even in the area), the "boot jump" feels like a way to give me a worse double-jump for no good reason, the voice logs are extremely bad, the level design is either cramped hallways with no logic or big open outdoor areas(the latter are notably better, should have stuck with those). The soundtrack is nice, I actually like the soundtrack. Everything else about this game is a do-over.

This is a full release? It feels like an early access title. Movement feels clunky, aiming feels off, kicking requires an energy resource for whatever reason, enemy AI is laughable, the environment feels boring and uninspired, the “humorous” dialogue is very cringey and forced, enemies deal ridiculous amounts of damage and can hit you before they've even started their animation, the first boss can hit you with his ranged attack no matter what you do to avoid it. It took me only about 20 minutes to get fed up with it and close the game, before trying it again and getting fed up again. I mean the game runs fine at least, but it just feels like there's a ton of work that still needs to be done. I bought it at the promotional price of $14, but it normally costs a whopping $20. It's not even close to being worth that, in its current state. I wouldn't normally want to refund a game from a small indie team, but this is clearly very much still in an alpha state and not worthy of being called a full release.

I don’t remember what life was like before the boot.. this baby is a game changer! KUR is a solid retro shooter, with good music that will get your heart pumping and ready for its fast-paced action. The game play is incredibly fun and worthwhile. There are tons of secrets, puzzles, and weapons at your disposal (including a shrink ray!!!). They had me laughing my tits off with their wit and sense of humor (but don’t worry, I duct taped them back on). KUR is comical but has a good balance of seriousness tied in. After all, it’s your life that’s on the line. Seems like there was a lot of thought put into the level design. The more I play, the more detail I notice around the levels. There were a couple minor bugs I stumbled upon, but that’s to be expected with early access. Didn’t stop me from having a good time. KUR has been so enjoyable, I’m already craving more. My heart is chanting “more boot, more boot!” And more boot it shall get. 10/10

This should still be in early access is this a joke. -Resolution changes didn't update for me the first time I played. -The scroll down menu that displays all resolution would "jump" ahead and I couldn't pick 1440p resolution. -The load game menu just opens up a File explorer and lets you figure which one of the files was your latest save. -Couldn't figure out how or where this game saves. -Bugs. -Bloom when using the flashlight is horrible you cant see sometimes. -I fell out of world at some point while exploring, the game didn't kill me it just left me to fall eternally, I had to load a save. -More inconveniences that i'm not bothered to report since I'm not their QA tester. -All this in 40 minutes. Sorry It's a pass for me.

This has been a fantastic game so far. Love the weapons, love the level design and how many different paths, secrets, and shortcuts there are.. I do think there could be a little bit more enemy variety but there's enough to cover what's needed. The world and story are cool, the visuals are nice enough for this retro-style genre. There's a good variety of environments, from big outdoor spaces, more cramped indoor areas, and even some slightly puzzly, exploration, or problem-solving kind of areas, and the variety definitely keeps the game from feeling like some 'hallways of enemies' types of games. The game design overall also rides the line of 'wacky' and 'serious' pretty well, allowing room for fun, and suspended realism without fully jumping the shark and getting obnoxious. Very nice. I love the kicking mechanic, and how it is just as useful for mobility as it is in combat. Sometimes kicking objects into enemies is kind of hard, but kicking them directly in the face usually does the trick when that fails.. follow up with a shotgun blast while they're soaring through the air for a bit of Bulletstorm vibe. Wallkicking into secret areas, or to sequence-break levels is great. I could see some big speedrun potential for this game as people discover combinations of wallkicking and airdashing that could really break some areas wide open. The upgrade system is nice... though I tend to find myself mostly picking up the passive upgrades. Grabbing the 'enemies drop ammo' and 'enemies drop health' ones help out a lot.. some of the other ones, admittedly kinda 'meh'. This is one to try, for sure.

It doesn't look great graphically and the ammo economy is kinda weird, but the moment to moment gameplay is extremely fun. Definitely check it out if you are into fast paced first person shooters, you may end up loving it!

For an absolute laundry list of reasons, too numerous to mention here, KUR is not ready to leave Early Access. Glitched, bugged, unpolished, unrefined and often unenjoyable. I have broken the AI, skipped over entire stretches of level by exploiting the jump-kick, and been able to trigger glitches almost any time I notice the possibility. At the current asking price, KUR is asking to be stacked up against the likes of Dusk, Amid Evil…. even much more competitively-priced titles like the fantastic Arthurian Legends. It absolutely cannot be compared to these games and comes off looking even worse by being so. There is so much here to be excited about. KUR can, and someday may, be excellent. But never, ever in this current state.
