Bro, no loot (dopamine payoff, reward) for boss fights?? Who play-tested this for you and told you that was a good idea? C'mahhhn, man.

Great little JRPG-style dungeon crawler with procedural generation and light roguelike elements. At 1.99 you really won't find more bang for your buck!

It seems fun at first until you realize a few things. 1. It's not an RPG, it's a resource management game. Try not to run out of restoration items and pray that the next potion you find isn't useless eye-drops *again*. Unless you are lucky enough to find Osmose and at least one healing spell (the latter of which you might start with) in which case everything but bosses becomes trivial. 2. Drops are whack. On the 44th floor? Sure, a treasure chest might happily drop another copy of the same sword you found on the first floor. Or it might drop a weapon better than everything else you've found put together. Literally, as in you would have happily traded every other weapon you have for it. Who knows? It's just too random. A single drop from a single treasure chest can completely dictate an entire run. Since each run takes hours, that much swing is simply not enjoyable, IMHO.

I'll be honest. At the $1 price tag (got it on sale) I was not expecting anything great. I like Rogue-like games, and it looked interesting, so thought I'd give it a try. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! This game is fun! Reminds me a lot of games of times back when, while being new. Being able to configure the Hero character to the role you want them to play is a very nice feature! The combination of party characters you can use (even just the base ones) is really fun, and make this rogue-lite a step up in the genre. I've been having a lot of fun playing this game! A friend of mine (who got this on my recommendation) and I will pass info back and forth on the cool unique items we've gotten, and how fun they are. Those items are total game-changers! Abilities from flat damage reduction, to a chance to hit everything with increased power, to imbuing attacks with elemental power.. truly, no two playthroughs are identical. If you like rogue-lites, give this game a chance. You won't be disappointed!

A great game to kill time if you like to grind. I do wish new sidequests/achievements would be added (I've played an embarrassing amount), but for the casual player it's just right.

This game has no right to be this good. It's literally named after it's genre and nothing else, there's no story (apart two characters from the developer's other game 'building this dungeon' for adventurers) and no context, it has very traditional turn-based combat with all the names of Final Fantasy games but still SOMEHOW it's really engaging. Maps are randomly generated RPG Maker dungeons, which means big featureless square rooms, and while the maps are extremely ugly, they're well balanced for navigation. And this is exactly how this game doesn't fail: It's extremely well-balanced. The battles are fun because there's rarely a 'filler' turn where you do the same actions on all 4 characters and you're just waiting for it to end. Enemies have very low HP overall and do a nice amount of damage, making you actually WANT to use the Guard move on your frail guys instead of constantly spamming attack for the battles to end. This only really works because there's no reliable way to heal up your party (They don't recover HP/MP when they level up and you can only get it back if you pet the cat that may or may not appear ever) which means any damage you take and any MP you spend will stick to you until the end of the run. This could CERTAINLY become annoying but there's just the right number of HP/MP recovering items laying around to get you going. Since the abilities you get to use in fights are randomly generated as well, the same class can behave completely different from one run to the next so dying isn't all that tedious. Visually it uses VX ACE art, the best version of all RPG Maker characters and tilesets which is a huge step above from the generic art from the engine this game uses, RPG Maker MV. In the end it's worth more than many games priced 6x as much as this.

This game has his issues, but has some great features. If you love rpg-maker and roguelite games without much dialog, this could be something for you. Positv: The start of the game is pretty intuitiv. Balancing in fights seems fair. Each boss is unique. A nice varity of heroes, items and equipment. Character Customization with meaning. Questsystem This game has so much potential, because it has a great foundation. Negativ: The whole game is to random. You can choose your team and your boni and thats almost it. Yeah, you can choose to fight, open chests or speak to people but thats almost everything to choose. It would be nice if the Dungeonnumber is always shown. Like an image in a corner. If you don't count your steps its hard to remember your position. Empty dungeons. There is barely stuff to make or figure out. No riddles, no secrets, nothing to gain advantage in future runs. Bugs: You can't heal all of your mana in the fountain. Chicken/Cat doesn't vanish after the first talk. Some Tiles have the wrong pathing. There are stuff you can walk over, but you shouldn't and also the otherway around.

RECOMMENDED 7/10 Roguelite 2 is an inexpensive and fun implementation of the traditional rogue game using RPG maker graphics. What I like most about this game is the "persistence" mechanics. Each dungeon run has a chance to complete a series of quest-like achievements. These achievements, when completed, will then open up some small bonuses in future dungeon run. These bonuses can come in the form of unlocking new classes, better starting weapons and armor, or even some useful consumables like healing and resurrecting potions, etc. So, when you play this game, the best strategy is to focus on fulfilling the quest requirements and then your next dungeon run will be better. For a price of $2.99, this game is definitely worth the many hours of fun that it has provided me.

I don't know about this one. For it's small price it was fun. But I breezed through the 25 floors, and then faced the boss. He confused my entire party with an AOE spell, and then I just watched my party slowly die without me being able to use any of the items in my full inventory that I stocked up on, or any of the spells I collected. The boss alternated a thunderbolt attack with the AOE confuse, rendering me unable to input any commands the entire boss fight. GG failed run. I get that it's a roguelike, but I didn't mess up here - I prepared well but I did not make the safe roll against the confuse. Even if I had all the best items in the game and all the best spells, I cannot win if I cannot input any commands. I do not feel like replaying 25 floors again to just hope that I will not get group confused. Extremely unsatisfying end boss, and I think lacking design. Maybe you could enable item use when characters are CC'd so there's some form of counterplay?
At a Glance

(Adult) Content No.

Censorship Not applicable.

Hours of Gameplay Three or more hours.

Modding Support? No.

Patch Required? Not applicable.

Roguelite 2 is a dungeon crawler with RPG-eske character progression.
Game-play
The game starts with a few of the cast talking (directly to you, the player). From the get-go, you will begin in a beginner's hub. The first guy I spoke to advertised the developer's other works. One of the ladies explains how the dungeon-portion of the game works. Each dungeon has twenty-five to fifty (randomly generated) floors. Between floors, progress is saved (allowing to safely exit the game). Every five floors there is a boss, and after every boss the "enviroment" will change. I have to give props to the "tutorial room". It is well-made, and looks appealing. After choosing your hero's specialty and selecting your party, you can then embark on a dungeon expadition. Dungeons are total messes of corridors and rooms, probably the result of poor random-generation. Regardless, each room is like a maze, and it keeps the maps varied. There are enemies which roam the land, which can be avoided (or battled) as needed. Chests and pouches litter the dungeon floors, all full of useful items. If you happen upon a dwarf, have no fear! For he sells useful wares, which will (probably save) save your rear!
Story
To my knowledge, there isn't a story, and the characters aren't characterized by much more than a few lines they say in the starting-area. As far as I'm concerned, my lady friends names' are "Priest" and "Wizard". You're some guy with a pack loot-seeking buddies who get their kicks raiding dungeons.
Visuals
Roguelite 2 appears to be a more-polished RPGMaker project. Though the interface and functionality is very similar (to other RPGMaker titles), it is clear that the developers made an honest attempt to separate this game from the rest. The sprites in-general look nice, with plenty of small animations to keep the eyes from wandering (from the screen). I'm not sure how much of the sprites are original content, but in any case the sprite-work looks nice. Upon further inspection, quite a bit of the sprites are not original, but that's fine. The portraits also looked decent, but if you're looking for lewd you came to the wrong game. The characters look like pretty and stereotypical heroes. The enemy-portraits are ones I've seen before (in other games), or at least I think I've seen. But visuals are expensive, so I'm willing to let them slide.
Verdict
This is a fun and cheap dungeon-crawler. It can be challenging at times, and it is hard enough to keep me on edge. It's worth a buy if you're a fan of the genre, and can look past RPGMaker re-used assets.
Support the Wombat
If you enjoy my review(s), please follow my Curator page.
