It's an enjoyable game. I dislike the idea of 'true endings' because it feels like it invalidates the one I do end up getting, but at least in this case there's just the two endings.

Lotus Reverie is a great game. With it's intriguing story, witty humor, beautiful ost, and unique mechanics it's absolutely worth the money. Honestly, as a fan of One thousand lies I was really excited for this and I was not disappointed in the slightest. My only complaints would be some inconsistent art and a somewhat unsatisfying ending (didn't bother me too much tbh). I believe that this series has massive potential for later entries and I'm excited to see it.

The soundtrack.
The story was ok, very confusing at the beginning but it did catch me, the characters were interesting, the battles were fun to do the first time, but quite abusable and thus a bit boring the subsequent times, the "ending" sucked, it's not even an ending, it's a very weird cliffhanger, which I can't lie, was interesting enough just because of how it was done, but the soundtrack.. this was the MVP, they fit whatever is happening at the time pretty well, and during battle there's always 2 similar versions, one for when you're planning your actions and one for active combat, and the transition between them are soooooo smooth.
It's an interesting experience, if you aren't totally sure wait for a sale.

I bought this game because I really enjoyed Keinart Lobre's first project, a visual novel called One Thousand Lies. While I recognised and enjoyed the very similar writing style, this one is definitely very different. It is not a kinetic novel, but more like a time management game and turn-based tactics game combined with long reading sections in between. There are not a lot of battles in here and they are not mandatory, but the parallel turn-based combat is pretty interesting, if a bit difficult to understand at first for me.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that, while the main plot threads are all wrapped up by the end, the larger mystery is still unsolved until the release of further installments in the future.
Other than that caveat, the game is a pretty clear recommendation if this piques your interest. There are some minor issues here and there but nothing important. The story and world are captivating with interesting characters. The visual artwork looks really nice and the soundtrack (just like in OTL) is pretty good too. I'm looking forward to the continuation of the story once it's released.

I was hesitant at first because I never tried visual novels before, but then I saw people on twitter talking about how the story and the battle mode was like nothing they have seen before. So I gave it a try... and boy, it took me like good 1 hour just to beat the prologue battle... OMG! No two battles are the same, and you freaking need 200 IQ to beat it. Although frustrating at first I had to demonstrate myself I was able to pass these bosses. You are given only a couple of chances to skip the battles at the beginning of the game, but really for me it was my pride what was at stake.
The story:
At first I had no idea what was going on, and then the story got me so hooked! To be honest, normally I'm not a fan of anime (those thicc gurls tho...) but the story feels like a deep and intricate Netflix show. So far I felt every emotion possible throughout the story. I laughed a lot, wanted to cry, I was scared... this is uncharted territory for me in terms of game genre, but I really like it!

I finished the game and I enjoyed it greatly. This is everything you could want in a visual novel - a both lighthearted and darker fantasy storyline with fun gameplay, excellent art, great music, fun time management aspects, different scenarios/paths, and an AMAZING storyline. I think the story shines through along with the art that makes this one of the best visual novels available on Steam just like Danganronpa and Zero Escape. The characters are deep and well-written as well as beautifully drawn. They really make the game shine. I am looking forward to the other games in this series. Great job to the developer! This is definitely one of the best visual novels I have played and I have been playing them almost nonstop for about 10 years.

Lotus Reverie is brought to us by the creators of the brilliant visual novel, One Thousand Lies. Knowing this, I was guaranteed that writing would be next to flawless here as well. The art, writing and soundtrack was gorgeous, even for a high quality visual novel such as this. However, there is a presence of severe ambiguity in the narrative itself, and I noticed a refusal to cooperate with the sensibilities of the reader. However, I am wont to believe that this issue shall be resolved in the next Nexus of this franchise. Looking forward to more works from Keinart Lobre anyway!

[MINOR SPOILERS]
Wait for a sale.
Honestly, I don't play very many VNs. What little experience I have playing visual novels comes from Katawa Shoujo, Narcissu, and VA-11 HALL-A, all of which I loved by the end.
But this game? No. Don't get me wrong:
the combat is great (if a little bit buggy), the characters are charming, and the overall plot is really interesting and had me invested the whole way through, but THE ENDING just killed the whole experience. When I got to the ending, I immediately assumed that the "true" ending was the secret ending, so I played through the game again to unlock the secret ending. Nope. The secret ending was absolutely not worth the replay, as all it does is give you a sword and a spell that will let you unlock the "get all weapons/spells" achievements.
The ending wasn't even bittersweet at the least. It was more like a slap in the face. I understand that Lotus Reverie is supposed to be a "saga" and more is supposedly in the works, but this does not give me any good first impressions at all.

Someone had to be the first and take the shot. I am not talking about the game, I am talking about my ears.
At first, the novel had a "little" problem with the soundbalance of audio effects, but now a patch has been released that fixes those. My ears may still bleed from before, but at least no one else will have to go through that anymore.
Sorry, that was a lie, the ending is completely messed from the soundbalance still.
Its a great novel, one that I initially didn't recommend because of the.... uh.... jumpscares which were the audio effects, some so quiet you barely noticed them and others louder then in any horror game. I am glad to see the developer caring about his game and fixing the problems within a single day.
Except for the ending.
The writing style of the novel is good too, and the music, well, is kind of.... unusual, but extremely good.
Except for the ending.
I can only recommend this novel
....if it were finished that is.....
Oh sorry, did I burst your bubble? Yeah, thats not a finished novel. Gets sold as one, I know. But there are a few pieces of information which are hidden from any non-buyers.
So lets start with a little list, shall we?
First of all, this novel is supposed to be episodic. To quote from the website (which you wouldn't know about that it existed if you just saw this novel on steam, like I did):
"Lotus Reverie is a series of novels divided by episodes called “nexus”, with Lotus Reverie: First Nexus being the first. Depending on the support, more novels will be developed until the completion of the series. Please keep in mind that each nexus is a complete novel from the beginning to the end and has its own self-contained plot. Following nexuses will answer and resolve some points related to the game world."
Now, remember what I was mentioning on the sidelines earlier?
Something about.... the ending?
Yeah uh.... to call it an ending is already an insult to any novel. Its an half-assed attempted of trying to hide its unfinished. No, thats not it. Its more like.... an on purpose extension of a closed plot.
Or in other words, preperation for a cash grab. To point it out better, let us take a look at the phrasing of the previous statement:
"Please keep in mind that each nexus is a complete novel from the beginning to the end and has its own self-contained plot"
So uhm... I have a question: If the novel is supposed to be closed from beginning till end, then why does even the novel ITSELF make fun about the ending and how horrible it is?
Oh wait, I didn't mention it yet? Yeah, the novel laughs at you after you reach the ending. With a very "subtle" hint no doubt: "If you want closure, maybe you will find it in the next nexus?"
"complete novel rom the beginning to the end"
Mhm, believing that 100%. No doubt about it. Certainly no cash-grab. Definitly not. Never.
Oh, whats that your saying? Right, I did say its unfinished. So yes, your right, it could just simply be that the ending gets added later.
....if the game wouldn't say its finished, and that no extra content will be added to it.....
By the way, have I mentioned that the ending contradicts the novels contents? No? Well, it does. I wont explain why, cause spoilers, but still. Do I have anything else to say? Yes, but I don't want you reader to be bothered any longer by this. Take care and.... well, perhaps your better of not buying this. A lot better.
