This game is a nice mix of battle and platforming, the way you fight can go in as many ways as you want from grinding for hours to perfect your timing and deflect everything or just dodge and get what hits you can. The depth of combat is great and there are many minute mechanics that make it easier but are not necessary to fight effectively. the combat is very engaging and forces you to pay attention to what enemies are in the room and what each do and be paying attention to each one while also making sure you are dealing enough damage and healing when possible. for the amount you can buy it for I would 100% recommend and urge you to at least try the demo. Edit: after getting through what i presume is most of the game and reaching the final boss (have not beat it as of this edit) I have a few more thoughts on it. One of my most prevalent problems with the later bosses is the fact that parrying gets you nothing, the only thing it does is sometimes you can follow up with another attack but it is almost always better to just dodge and its a waste of your time to even try to parry most of the time. Another gripe i have is the unfairness of some of the bosses my most prevalent is the reaper and final boss (i don't know if it actually the final boss but I assume from the rate of attacks and range) ill start with the reaper, this boss is one of my least favourites just because of how annoying it is to fight him, the range all of his attacks is quite annoying and the rate at which he can chain them together requires a lot of skill to overcome and even in standard mode i found him to be a wall for multiple hours. I'm not going to go into more detail for that as I also have some more problems. This is probably the biggest flaw and its the fact is sometimes you have to backtrack really far to progress and you are never told where to go, you are never given hints to my knowledge and I had to look up a guide to get to the reaper boss. I'm going to leave it here, all in all it is still a great game with some very unique mechanics and bossed and would still recommend to anyone looking for a good challenge and something to just dump into because you can, I may edit this again after I beat the game but I probably won't. but if you have spare time and money I would 100% recommend this game.

I definitely will say that the game presents itself as deceptively simple at first, but behind that is a gameplay system with a surprising amount of depth. I'm not the biggest fan of the challenges that center around beating up hoards of mobs, and that's just purely personal preference, but I do appreciate the amount of strategy I needed to utilize to overcome them, and honestly it's through these particular challenges that I really started to re-examine my skills, adjust my playstyle per situation, and learn what targets are priority over others. The platforming might be the weakest part of the game for me, and not really in the sense that I disliked it. There are only really a few additional mechanics you gain in additional to jumping that are related to the platforming aspect, and likewise, you run into the same type of obstacles a lot, so the variety really comes into how those obstacles are structured. Some of them I did find interesting, and one was especially memorable, but overall I'm kind of neutral on this aspect of the game. Finally, the bosses. There wasn't a single boss fight that I didn't genuinely enjoy, and they were absolutely my favorite part of the game. While some were certainly pretty challenging, I don't think I ever had a moment where I thought the boss fight was actually unfair. They were fun to learn and felt great to rip apart, and that's really all I ask for in a boss fight. You're rewarded a lot in combat for parrying and I love smacking things in the face with my shield in any game so that's a big plus for me. Overall, I recommend giving this game a try; I think for a lot of people, they'll end up liking it more than they initially thought they would.

This is a very cool stylized combat game. I couldn't help be enchanted by the skill cap of the gameplay and all the cool things you can do as a Draco Knight once you mastered the controls. The combat feels grounded which is quite refreshing given the crazy antics of other games in the genre. The settings and theme of the game also were on point. For these reasons I recommend you check this out. The main drawback of the game and why I didn't put as many hours into it as I'd like is the mechanical control difficulty. This is a very difficult game, but much of the difficulty is in executing the controls you want to do which can be quite finnicky and frustrating at times. This also makes coming back to the game tough, because it takes time to get acclimated to the controls, which are so different than other games in the genre.

the main reason this is a no from me is the fact while you can precision block and the frames on blocking is decent sprites do not have collision so the enemy can just move into your space if its aggressive enough and wreck the ever living shit out of you. that is about 33% of this game's difficulty, plus another 33% to precision controls on the worst weapon i have ever seen in a metroidvania combined with a similar system to dmc's skills on weapons where specific inputs of clicks need to be made for special attacks and moves but its almost mandatory to actually do any damage, and another 33% for the fact most difficult areas are just loads of monsters sent at you all at once all piled on top of one another. so yeah i wouldn't recommend this game to anyone I know, but if you like CBT for the sake of CBT this game is probably for you

This game is hidden gem for sure. Combat requires thinking and skill, so button mashing won't do you any good. Goals are clear, plot is realistic and with a twist, characters are not pretentious. Overall there is nothing to add and nothing to remove. And also - spear. Spears are cool.

Really cool resposive game. Mechanics are familiar but unique in implimentation. Spear works almost like in a twin-stick shooter controlls, but otherwise it feels closest to a fighting game. Though even playing on hardcore i couldn't do dragon stance super relibly, but that's probably intentional since it's pretty stong. Loved inclusion of some precision platforming for variaty, generally very well made game, all i can ask is for more content.

Really enjoying this game so far. The combat system is unique and intuitive and definitely requires some practice to get used to, but when you get in the groove it's an amazing experience. 10/10 Game.

There are some things to say about this game. 1) The game is deep in the gameplay, it's absolutely clear that it is conceived in an intelligent and logical way, so it's pleasing to learn the patterns of the enemies, it's nice to reach a certain place and obtaining a bonus after some hardcore platforming and so on. 2) The control system is very nice and original. You have to get used to it, but it works pretty good and it's something different from classic 2D-soulslike games. 3) At normal mode this game is incredibly hard. I never played anything like this before, and I am a veteran player who beats Malenia from Elden Ring hitless and things like that. Here some bosses (e.g. the last) are on a completely different level, it's like playing in end game in a soulslike with a +0 weapon. And I am saying it not in a good way. It's too difficult, so I had to cheese a pair of bosses (forcing the A.I. into simple patterns) who had an absurd quantity of hp. If they had like the 25% of the hp they have, they would have been a very difficult challenge, but maybe fair. With their total amount of hp are simply broken. Another aspect in which this game hits very (too) hard is the crowd control. When you have three or four different types of enemies in the same room, everyone with its own pattern, it becomes absurdly hard to parry, hit, evade, heal and survive. Sometimes I spent like an hour trying to clear a room (and in many cases this is mandatory to progress). Anyway, I managed to finish the game and I liked it, but I'd have preferred a more human challenge in order to play every situation "as intended" and not cheesing away some points. I'd really like to see some videos of skilled people playing this game, because I'd love to see if I missed something in the way you should play or something like that.

Fantastic game. The closest thing I can compare the combat with is a 2D Sekiro, its fast and fluid, requiring fast and precise input from the player, bosses also have “posture” damage when you deflect or attack them, similar to Sekiro. In Hardcore difficulty it emulates perfectly the dark souls experience, you might struggle with some enemies or bosses, but once you interiorize the general mechanics of the game the result is rewarding. I emphasize the phrase “general mechanics” as the difficulty each boss possesses is not exclusively sui generis (not specific) rather each boss becomes an instance of learning how fighting in this game works and shallow mechanics are not introduced for specific purposes, very similar to the Sekiro experience. Which I think is a mark of a very well difficulty design as the learning is generalized and the hurdles are related to each other. You can do some sick combos with the tools available. There are also some plataforming instances that are cool and challenging. The bosses are very well designed, not only their move pattern but aesthetically also. They don’t feel unfair at all and are very fun to learn and overcome. The music is very good and enjoyable. Would have loved if it was longer, but considering the price it’s definitely worth it.

IMPORTANT: Please share this game with all your friends, especially if they like side scrollers, souls like, or rogue like games. They will enjoy this, and the developer absolutely deserves the recognition. This game is particularly enjoyable. It combines aspects of Metroidvania with Fighting games and Soulslike games, and then dresses it all up in a very beautiful world of hand drawn environments, with fluid animations of exceptional detail. The game is quite difficult in a number of area's, but it never feels unfair or artificial in that difficulty. Every time I was fighting an enemy or a boss, I never felt as if I had been cheated, more that I had missed something that I needed to watch for. The game does a fantastic job of getting you used to the combat, every area introduces a new enemy or two that gets you used to what they do so you can adjust yourself for facing them as a horde. Particularly difficult enemies will be found in a room, spawned alone, usually with a save point just before so you can learn how to deal with them before moving on. The skill system is nice and provides a decent number of tools that help you fine tune your particular style of play, although throughout the game you never feel that any particular skill in the skill tree is necessary to continued play. I particularly applaud this because it's very rare to find a game with such a skill tree where certain skills aren't seen as useless or necessary. There are a couple of rough spots, which considering the development of the game itself is understandable. I'm colorblind, and the similarity of certain enemies with the background makes it very difficult for me to know whats happening when it happens. Also, some particular fights have certain failings in how the AI reacts and responds. However, I brought both of these points up in a discussion, and nearly immediately got a response from the developer. This game is so very clearly a work of love and dedication, reminiscent of titles from the golden age of gaming, that were painstakingly crafted works of art that showcased how much the developers loved what they were doing. Draco Knight stands as a testimony to the idea that Indie Games and their developers are, by and large, the best hope for gaming in the future. TL;DR, the only thing I do not like about this game, is that there is not more of this game. And even that probably isn't going to be an issue for long. Febuary 2, 2023 Edit. The Endless dungeon update brings with it the one thing this game needed but was lacking, More Content. New game plus that not only allows you to start with more power in a particular field, but also lets you keep all the abilities you ended the game with on your last run. And then the endless dungeon mode. Granted it's basically just room after room of swarms of enemies, but frankly speaking the strongest point of this game is it's combat (Followed shortly behind by the artwork). The Endless dungeon literally gives you the best part of the game, I have no complaints about it. Additionally, a high contrast mode for people with color blindness was added, which is absolutely amazing. On top of that, language localization for several different languages. All in all, it just keeps getting better.
