I really liked this. It has a great fighting system and the difficulty is just perfect with real punishment for getting it wrong. I really recommend this and will look out for more games from this team.

I sure do wish that Steam had something a bit less binary than Yes or No when it comes to reviews. And for me this is definitely one of those reviews. I think I hate it? Ever take a bite or a sip of something, then sit there for a moment, subjecting yourself to something you feel like you should love but somehow just isn't right? Yet you keep on trying as if something was going to change about your first odd feeling? Yeah, that's this game to me. Maybe if this was 3 years ago and just being well produced, looking, and sounding good was enough. The only way I can possibly describe this is if you can imagine The Morrigan, Hell Split: Arena, Until You Fall, Swords of Gargantua, and Legend of Zelda's audio dude ended up at the same hotel, each having had "one too many" at the end of a long day, and ended up in a wild night of ill advised baby making activities?? If you can imagine that in your head and you want to avoid a headache, do it now. If you MUST know what such an offspring might look like in it's not-yet fully fledged state then I say go for it. What is it? Game play wise its closest to Until you Fall, if you were to take most that is unique out of it and put it on a plate.Think from my description above - colored swords must match the strokes, the strokes are timed, and you "path" through an adventure of sorts. Bosses are at your door quickly, and just as quickly ended... they do try to mix it up some, but it's all variations on a theme, and your "skill" will consist of lazily holding the correct controller out while you are being attacked. It tried to be punishing, pushing you all the way back to start over again. This did drive me to play longer than I would have otherwise, i will admit that.. as I stood in a stale mate with one of the bosses while working out the timing of it (the swords have no weight or feel to them, as such you end up with a lot of back-flow sword movement when just getting back into your root position). I can't give this game a thumbs down though.. it does look good.. it sounds good.. obviously a lot of re-purposed assets but it IS well put together. I commend the skill involved, but not the end result. I am giving the developer the benefit of the doubt that this is not just an attempt to DNA scrape what "works" to make a quick buck. There may be some who just LOVE this style of game no matter what - to them I can say it's well done for what it is at least, performs and is stable. I am now going to go try and get my 1.4 hours back, and no not via refund. Recommend? Yes. To someone, just not me. If you know me and are of similar tastes, save your 10 bucks. :)
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/7YHlugfMhMc God's Challenge is a clone of Until You Fall .. a bad, basic, bare-bones clone of Until You Fall. Most clones try to add something new to the mix. God's Challenge simply tried to make a complete game out of the most basic elements of Until You Fall and then tried to extend the gameplay by having you fight pointless trash mobs and then have you re-fight every single boss fight you just fought in the 5th level. I am not impressed. I don't normally refund games that I purchase. However, this game was so boring and repetitive that I did give it serious consideration. Ultimately, I decided against it but that 5th level is really, really awful. In this game there are basically 4 levels. You fight the boring trash mobs and then you face the boss at the end of the level. Thankfully, there aren't many trash mobs, but the boss fights do take a tad bit too long. The problem is that if you fail, you have to restart from the very beginning of the level (you only get one resurrection or retry at the same spot you died in each level). After you beat the 4 levels, you'll have to do the 5th level, which is just doing every single boss you just beat, back to back. There is also a 6th level, which I believe is an end boss seen on the store page video, but which I haven't played. For the most part, you're only raising your purple or yellow sword in the position the game wants for you to block damage. You do this until you get a cue to attack. This is 90% of the game. For the boss fights, especially the first one, you'll be doing this over and over and over again. Rinse and repeat. Then rinse and repeat some more. The major difficulty in this game is keeping focus because you're so gosh darned bored to tears from the gameplay loop. There are some variations. You do have to dodge these slow-moving red lasers that come towards you. You also have to swing at these purple and yellow markers that fly towards you. Bosses will come in and out of striking distance. You have to time some of the strikes correctly as well. However, these variations are few and far between. Not only that, but on the 4th boss, I had some issues with hit detection which you can see on my video review & gameplay listed above. This hit detection issue made it difficult to defeat this particular boss. There was nothing else difficult about this game .. that is other than staying awake and focused. I could have probably beaten this game if it weren't for having to face that 4th boss again in the 5th level and having to get lucky with the hit detection issue. I just didn't want to fight all 4 bosses again for a 3rd attempt (I got to the 4th boss each time, but got unlucky each time with the same issue seen on the video). I don't recommend this game, not even on sale. I suggest saving those $4 bucks and spending it on Until You Fall if any thing about this game looks interesting. If you already own Until You Fall, then I suggest playing it again or playing Gorn, or Eternity Warriors VR, or Blade and Sorcery or Hellsplit: Arena. Rate 4.5/10. Not even a good poorman's version of Until You Fall.
