Shieldwall is almost fun, but it's undercooked.
Good: The core gameplay loop is simple and addicting. The art style is cute. I haven't run into any bugs after early access.
Bad: The upgrade tree is too shallow for longer missions, some of which are unreasonably long (the campaign ranking system kind of forces the dev into this). The campaign mode offers no decision making to the player, it's just a liner sequence of maps. Only 1 playable faction and no multiplayer means different maps are the only option for variety between matches.
Ugly: The pre-game interfaces are unpolished. It's text heavy, and not well formatted. The in-game interface is good enough, but the map really needs a you-are-here indicator. Completing a campaign map just takes you to the main menu, no option to continue. There's no connection I can find between one battle and the next, so there's really no story at all which is a shame because the history this is based on is excellent.
