This is a beautiful 2D fighting game with exciting supers and ultimates. Really makes you feel like every minute counts, and skill development is motivated by not wanting to get too predictable (AI counters easily) or too patient (CPU has a tendency to land long combos in later rounds). Loved it so much that I grabbed it on the Switch too and grabbed the physical. This is a must play in my opinion even if you don't love fighters and definitely if you do.

Oh no its a game with 8ing involved. But it is pretty fun, besides a lack of content overall.

The best worst fighting game. You need friends to play as im pretty sure no one is really left. This fighting game is fun and easy to play with 1 button specials and ults which result in shattering eachothers kneecaps at light speed.

DNF Duel was one of my first 2d fighters that I enjoyed playing. It is easy to pick up and there are many viable strategies that the game rewards through different niche characters. Its disappointing to see the game slowly fade away, but if you are looking for a fun game to play with friends etc. then this is pretty fun!

Disclaimer: I am posting this review with the knowledge that this game's online requires knowing where to find the community. Nexon's historic lack of support for their games wound up hurting this game's chances of really breaking out, and that is a tragedy. Sadly, that ship has sailed as of this writing, with Eighting now working on Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact, and Arc System works having since moved onto other projects. The reason that this happened was that the game didn't recieve major updates for months after launch, and only got DLC support around a year later. For a multiplayer centric game, this is a death sentence, and it sucks, because the following review is going to highly recommend the game. --------------- DNF Duel is a real gem of a 2D fighting game. Published by the Nexon MORPG Dungeon Fighter Online developed by Neople, and Jointly developed by Neople, Eighting, and Arc System Works, this game is an incredibly fast paced, high-octane airdasher that feels incredibly fun to play. DNF Duel's combat breaks the mold typical of 2D fighting games in the modern era in that instead of having traditional super meters, most of your special moves (not all) detract from a regenerating MP bar. This bar's capacity starts off at 100, and gradually rises to 200 as the player takes damage. Damage inflicted is not permanent without using an MP using skill, instead leaving behind stone-grey 'dead health' that will regenerate as the target avoids damage. This grey health can be spent to cancel certain animations and restore MP to extend the player's combos. Once a player is low on health, passive buffs activate, and if their MP is at a certain amount, they are allowed to user their super, an Awakening Skill, once per round. The dynamics this combat leads to tend to be incredibly fast paced, where one bad move will get the hapless victim laid low in seconds if they are not careful. I don't know which developer handled what aspect of the game, but Eighting's 'If Everyone is Busted, No one is" mentality is clearly at play. And it is glorious. The game, sadly, is lean on content, with only a handful of single player modes, and an online that sadly requires you to find a dedicated group as DNF Duel's steam playerbase is sadly nearly extinct. However, if you can get a game going, you are in for a real joy of a fighting game that absolutely should NOT be slept on. Here's hoping someone can take lessons from this game and create a better supported spiritual successor one day.
