I think the game design is gorgeous. The soundtrack is great in some parts of the game, but absent in others.
The controls felt clunky but I got used to it by the time of the third playthrough. I should not be that desperate for steam achievements. The game felt like Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey on LSD.

If you running a OLED Monitor, just buy it. Its a simple game with amazing visuals. So far I don't even understand the story but I just really started.
From the short amount of time I have in it so far its sure worth the price if you get it on sale!!

Beautiful game.
Game play and mechanics are straight forward and well done, but the visual and audio atmosphere of the game are where it really shines

Definitely not for everyone, as the game is rather simplistic, and the story a bit too difficult to follow, but WOW - absolutely AMAZING ART direction and atmosphere. Doesn't outstay its welcome in length either. Highly recommend!

Stunning game, fairly difficult. Good length for the type of game. I wish the lore was more clear but that could just be my idiot brain not making connections. Otherwise, the game is totes thumbs up.

Vesper has a few awesome things going for it like the Art, the sound design, the mood, and the storytelling, but I think it has just as many negatives if not more.
Starting with the platforming. Its simple which i like, but its also a bit too clunky and sluggish. Most jumps end up being ledge grabs so then you have to wait another second for your character to get up. The game couldve used more variation in this. Secondly, there are way too many chase sequences in the game. Early on it was fine, but by the final level it was just felt like entire chase sequence. I think this ruined the threat the weird data block things possessed. The controls were generally okay, but I put the game down for a few weeks and when i launched my save file i had totally forgotten what some of the keys were, but I thought it was a bad design decision to not have the controls in the menu. Why is it that they only show up in the main menu? Some of the keys were also weird for keyboard and mouse. I thought Q was a weird interact button, normaly it be either E or F.
My biggest issue with the game was its story. Sadly there wasnt much of it. You get a few cryptic logs that have a message in them, but thats about it. After the first hour i'd hoped to get some kind of selmlence of worldbuilding or narrative, but I was left to figure it out based on loose clues and the environments. The game only revealed its story until the very end. Which gets into my second issue with the story. I had no idea there was a karma system in this game. I cant recall the game mentioning it to me. Basically if you kill to many robots you cant get the good ending, but if you let them live you have the option to either get the good or bad out come as a choice at the very end.
Overall I enjoyed the game, and the small challenge it brought. It definitely screams "indie" which is totally fine, but it could definitely use some polish in a lot of areas. A lot of the time the game felt monotonous. The best part was definitely the illustrated levels, but without having any underlying story to follow, the game-world feels hollow.

Phiosophical, mysterious and beautiful especially with the graphics. The puzzle aren't too hard but not totally braindead and the movement although very simple makes you able to do a couple of manuvers around enemies and during platforming. If you re looking for a game that explains his story in detail this won t probably be your cup of tea being more abstract and theorycrafty.

I don't like the overabundance of chase sequences. The puzzles are not difficult, thoughtful, nor interesting in any way. There is atmosphere and a lot of artwork which is impressive in the background. I don't like the pseudo-philosophical tone. I really dislike it when the game talks to me as if I did something super important.
That's all I can say.

All in all I can say, if you liked Oddworld you will probably like Vesper as it employs a similar style of gameplay. Instead of trying to figure out how to save your people, you juggle light sources around try to sneak them past enemies, which is especially interesting because you can't hide as long as you stand in light or carry light. There are still a lot of similarities though, as you still get to possess enemies and control them, use their light sources and attack other enemies.
It's fun and I haven't finished it yet, so I'm just going to say I'm three chapters in and thus far the puzzles are not as difficult or mind-bending as those you might see in the original Oddworld. However, as there's still a large chunk of the game ahead of me, the difficulty could definitely still ramp up.
The art is something I'm two minds about, and I'll talk about it since I've seen it mentioned by other people as a distinct feature of this game. Overall it looks great, but it's diminished a little by the vast blackness surrounding the amazing art. To give credit, this is brilliant in terms of gameplay as it indicates to the player perfectly what is interactable and walkable, but as a visual trait I'm not keen on it.
But again, everything that isn't pitch-black and has some texture to it looks absolutely gorgeous. I really dig the painterly yet realistic texture style.

Incredible visuals and soundtrack, and overall the game is very clearly drawing inspiration from the original oddworld games which are great.
However...
This game has absolutely TERRIBLE level design and gameplay. I was bored within about 20 minutes and only pushed past an hour in hopes that it would eventually start getting interesting, but it doesn't seem like it ever does.
90% of your playtime is just holding left or right and walking in a straight line
The puzzles and platforming are completely brain dead, there is actually zero challenge.
Lot's of chase sequences to try and make the game seem exciting, but they happen so often and they are so simple that it almost becomes a joke.
There are no characters or story to help motivate you through the boring game, its all just a bunch of vague imagery and cryptic text messages.
Would not recommend even if it was free.
Go play the following games instead.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (Or maybe the remake, though I haven't played it so not sure)
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
