you defo need some kind of gun stock in order to experience this with any accuracy and realism.
However being able to tune gun position to suit your homemade stock is invaluable and included.
A real practice mode as suggested by others would be a massive help with some form of understanding data.
Proper good fun, worth the 16 notes to buy it all day.
I can also run it at max definition on my rig, which can barely handle iRacing on standard definition.

would like to see a multiplayer mode and better practice arena in the future
