This game reminds me A LOT of Rain World, very similar styles of levels and a great artsytle you can really get into.
Here's the thing, with refinement and polish the full game could be a 9/10 for me. The current early access is a 6/10
The gameplay really needs to be refined, I feel it could work without the need for directional mouse aim but I do think they should add it. You need to change the keyboard layer before even hitting start and there's a weird graphical choice thats stuck in my mind. When hit controlling an enemy you get lightning in the corners of the screen to show damage, thats really good! But that is not done for when you're out when thats your actual hp and should matter much more than the other, my advice would be to do the same thing but turn the lightning into veins and have the screen's corners turn red as that would make damage quite obvious.
I adore the mechanic of taking enemies and controlling them, but overall combat needs some more work to really be engaging. First off all you do is spam attack while watching your timer hoping you hit the hitbox, it needs to be a bit more engaging and make the player strategize. For example; if you do keep the damage effect when getting hit in a machine that damage should be unable to reset. When you take control again all damage done beforehand to the enemy is magically healed back, it would make the game much more difficult and interesting if you had to work with what damage you already caused the enemy.
Secondly although Rain World and Squillamorph have quite similar level design, Rain World does it much better. There should be more platformer oriented levels when in parasite mode to get the player used to how the character moves. This would help for boss fights as you had already learned ways to maneuver around them and their arena. It would be good to have levels between enemy fights where you have to do more platforming, the game already has a mechanic that would work for timed platforming and such (heated pipes). I won't complain about enemy variation because there's clearly many enemies in the works and the types of varations that make similar enemies fighting styles more distinct is good already.
I'm gonna stick with this game to see where it goes because I have high hopes for what the devs can accomplish with this, all they need to do is keep at it and provide regular updates and patches throughout its release. As long as they don't abandon this project I'm confident it will turn into something great.

The idea is absolutely awesome and i wish there were more games like it, but like other reviews have said, its just a "gain kills to open this door to gain kills to open this door" the whole way through. There's only 2 bosses so far and one is essentially just dodging until it's finally revealed how to beat it, with a new mechanic that isn't explained or shown anywhere else in the game. I did like the game, though. Of course, it hasn't been updated since a year ago, so i don't think its going to improve. It's a shame.

[FUN! UX issues] Excellent introduction to the game in this early access demo. I would highly recommend using a controller over mouse+keyboard as the gameplay relies heavily on very deliberate movements and energy management. I like that this game reminded me of the Ori series and Carrion, while being unique enough to conjure an interesting story of its own. An issue I ran into often was how I wasn't always sure what I was supposed to do, for example, with the first enemy you take over it wasn't clear that you needed to exit the enemy to progress and I found myself stabbing every wall before realising I just needed to jump over the wall in normal form. This and lack of feedback made for some confusing moments, but after a few attempts I managed to find my way and understand the mechanics better. Overall, the game is exciting, beautiful, and fresh, and I look forward to seeing the rest after a few improvements to the player experience.

love it! Reminds me of Carrion a lot, but that isnt a bad thing, as I think the genre needs more games. Lots of crashes and softlocks as of now, but I am exited to see where this goes!

EA: Squillamorph: Its base concept looked highly promising at first; given the player controls a parasitic creature who hijacks enemies to control them. The concept of hijacking in-of itself was a fantastic gameplay mechanic in my eyes and proved to be fun- however; the game had many glaring issues starting with random unexpected crashes at any given time within 5-8 minute intervals, broken level loads where the player would get stuck between transition doors, only 20 minutes of content to play and not to mention no configurable keybinds on top of other minor problems.
Pros:
-Fantastic art, great effects
-Promising and fun, but no content
Cons:
-Irritating controls for keyboard(Would work better with mouse aim)
-Buggy
-Lacks gameplay, polish and sound
-Derelict game
--Final verdict--
Would consider giving a second try if problems are addressed and controls have been polished with added config.

If 99% of this game is about gaining points by killing enemies then I feel like the combat should be more interesting than mashing left click while the shark weirdly bugs out. Being sent back to the start of the game after running out of lives (when you get one-shot by both the enemies and environment) doesn't suit this style of game at all. It feels fundamentally unfun and a lot of changes need to be made before it's worth it.
The art and the idea brought me to this, and has potential to be something great, but the "game" part of it sucks: getting points to open doors. Absolutely not worth £10 right now.
