This review is subject to change as I get further into the game, but after around the first hour of gameplay, I can't really recommend it, for a few reasons. I'm not a subscriber to the whole "it's good for only being made by one person" idea. The game is either good or it isn't. There's been games made by one person that are better than games made by 100 people. This game unfortunately is not one of them. This game feels like it could have used a couple more years in development.
Positives:
- Level/world design is really simple to grasp. If you get lost/can't find something, you either have never played a video game before, or have brain rot.
- Game has a sense of humor that I enjoyed.
- The environments are good. There's tidbits of environmental storytelling that I enjoyed.
- Could see how the gameplay loop can be addicting, doing quests, getting upgrades from outposts, getting new weapons/equipment from quests, etc.
Negatives:
- Not sure why some of the reviews mention how good the writing is. The game is very in-your-face about it's "humanity sucks and we're causing global warming" messaging. It's not wrong, but could use a little more nuance. The writing doesn't do enough to establish the world the player is coming into, just that global warming has almost caused complete global extinction.
- Gunplay is just barely serviceable. Could really use tweaking to maximize player feedback, like punchier/meatier sfx and more reactive and dynamic animations.
- This game feels less like an RPG and more like a barebones Bethesda game without the inventory management and skill checks. So not really an RPG at all. It has dialogue options, but they don't really affect anything. Multiple outcomes to quests could have really elevated this game.
- The game really feels like it's lacking player freedom. For example, I freed this alien from a cage, and he said I could have whatever is in the crate. He then traps me in the cage, but lets me out after I told him I'd give him my sword. I then, as most other people would have done, tried to kill him for being deceitful and trapping me in the cage in the first place. You cannot kill this character. I get that the developer wanted you to actually give him the sword because he claims the only reason he trapped you was for your sword so he had a weapon to survive, but it's not much of a "Role-Playing game" if you can't decide for yourself how to handle a situation like this.
- UI is extremely minimal. Would love a map to see the places I've already been, maybe a fast-travel system (though this isn't "necessary" since the map isn't that huge, but it'd be a nice QoL feature). You also can't see what skills/upgrades do before you purchase them with XP. A description when you hover over them would be nice. A minimal inventory system would also be nice to be able to pick up food for later and keep track of the weapons you've collected.
- Some sfx or lack thereof were kind of jarring. A few sliding and self-opening doors had no sfx. The eating sound is very cartoonish and kind of clashes with the rest of the sound design. The first alien pistol the player picks up has a firing sound that doesn't really seem like it fits the weapon.
- Actual voice actors instead of AI-generated ones would help this game a lot. If the NPC's are monotone and sound like they're not invested in the plot, the player probably won't be invested either.
Overall, this game is very bare bones. It's a game that just needs... more, to put it simply. There's not enough substance here to call this a proper RPG experience or a proper FPS experience. I understand it's only $4 ($2 on sale right now), but the game just isn't worth playing as of right now. It doesn't have enough going for it to warrant any amount of money be paid for it imo. I'm going to keep the game and return to it, but my review will stay as it is unless the next few hours of gameplay really wow me or prove me wrong.

Graphics don't exactly look 2025, dialogues might be a bit cheesy, story is bonkers, yet somehow it kind of works out.
Environments are nicely decorated and care was put into creating the game.
A couple of notes:
- When launching the game and having my PS4 controller plugged in, the camera constantly points upwards and rotates. This cannot be stopped.
- Considering the environments are big, I'd increase the main character's stamina or even remove it completely, as to speed up traversing through the maps.

This game is not a traditional FPS, at least in the 2 hours I’ve played. I’ve spent much more time figuring out how to buff my character, heal myself, and use my weapons effectively than pulling the trigger. Yes, there is significant gunplay and melee action, but this game is much more for people who want to take their time and notice details and figure out mild, but important puzzles to progress. This only really becomes apparent after you finish the first and only earth stage, which is both graphically underwhelming and kind of dull game-play wise. I almost quit before getting to the alien world, but I’m glad I stuck out that first 20 minutes because that’s when the game begins to shine.
A lot of the story is told through dialog with other characters, and is pretty well written in a sarcastic, dark humor kind of way. Don’t skip it, as otherwise you’ll be pretty lost as to what to do next or at all. There is a radar/mini map with areas of interest highlighted, but you’ll miss out on upgrades that make the game winnable. In your default state you’ll be too weak and underpowered to make much progress.
Although the game is definitely worth playing if you like this more cerebral, slow paced type of FPS gameplay, it’s definitely got its weaknesses. There are bugs that are annoying but not game breaking, and I did get one crash. You walk very slow given the scale of the alien world, and while you can run at a much faster pace that drains stamina quickly. It’s also far too easy to die at first on the alien world (but at least there are lots of save locations). Gamepads work fine for movement and shooting, but not at all for interacting with objects or people. This is not a highly polished or deeply playtested game. But it’s not broken or unfair, either. If it sounds like your kind of game and you have some patience for rough edges, definitely give it a try; I'm happy I did.

Longer than I expected, a good game to play. Suggestion for those who are struggling to beat some hard enemies, use the environment and powers strategically.

Great concept, a bit buggy, with frame loss, but a solid story, good soundtrack, and fun gameplay. Story is compelling but it gets repetitive fighting the same mobs over and over and can be frustrating with no apparent set damage table (some mobs you can one shot and the same mob type might take 50 bullets). A little more spit and polish on frames, audio volume and control, some customization options for characters and the ability to replay worlds and chapters would a great addition to the game. Overall well worth the price and very impressive for a single developer.

Humanity is a great story driven game with lots of gun play and action. I enjoyed the variety in the graphics. There are lots of worlds to explore, and they all look very different as well as a lot of unique aliens to fight. I don't mind the lack of looting and inventory because that can get a little tedious in some games, so it was nice to not have to worry about that. There is a good amount of weapons you can use throughout the game. Hold onto the pistol, it is one of the best weapons in my opinion. For being made by only a single developer I would say the game turned out nice and is worth playing.

i've been playing the game for a bit and so far i'm loving the quake / back in the day doom kinda feel the game has! awesome story with lore that makes you want to do the side quests to learn more about the inhabitants you come across, plus a funny dialogue system that makes each encounter funnier than the last! I'm currently on planet vylecks and am finding the different environments to be very refreshing and the increasing difficulty as you go makes gameplay entertaining! Lastly the combat and weapons feel great especially for a small dev and overall the game leaves you feeling satisfied and keeps you coming back for more! alright y'all i'm heading back to save humanity now!

Game was interesting to play. Took a little while to figure out the rules but i eventually figured it out. Game was shorter then i thought it would be. Thought there would be more or at least an ending of some sort, but after killing the big boss, all i got was this screen at the end that just keeps rolling the tunnel. Screen shot where the hovercraft looks funny is because it flipped on me for some reason and i never could get it back upright. Rather enjoyed the game, had a couple of funny moments in there that the developer included. All in all for the price i would recommend it.

Story makes no sense, gunplay is joyless and the game as a whole lacks refinement.
Just buy a new hat instead.
