This game kinda goes hard and while we did end up rapidly ahead of progression, uh, it was fun so dw about it, team. We're ballin' hardcore.
Pew pew rocks go boom and the shark causes mild to moderate headaches depending on the task at nyaand.

Combat is terrible. Game copies Raft with the shark mechanic, but the shark can launch attacks into the train. collectors are limited. Gun switching takes an eternity, only for a terrible combat experience to follow. Gameplay just becomes a repetitive loop that is only enjoyable for the first hour at most. Terrible game in general. 1/10.

Voidtrain is an intriguing blend of survival crafting and exploration set in a surreal and mysterious universe, developed by Nearga. At first glance, the game captivates with its unique premise: players find themselves aboard a train traveling through the vast emptiness of the Void, a strange, otherworldly space filled with fragmented islands and bizarre creatures. This setting forms the foundation for a gameplay experience that fuses resource gathering, base building, and procedural exploration into a cohesive and often mesmerizing adventure. The atmosphere and concept of Voidtrain immediately set it apart from more traditional survival games, offering a sense of wonder and curiosity that drives players to uncover the secrets of the Void.
Central to the experience is the train itself, which acts as both home base and mobile fortress. Players must continuously upgrade and expand their locomotive, constructing essential modules such as crafting stations, storage compartments, and defenses to withstand the threats lurking in the Void. The train’s constant movement across an endless expanse of void and islands creates a compelling tension between progress and survival. The game encourages players to balance exploration and resource management carefully: venturing too far without preparation can leave the train vulnerable, while staying too close to safety limits opportunities for discovery and growth. This push-and-pull dynamic is well-executed, providing a steady sense of challenge and accomplishment.
Exploration in Voidtrain is driven by procedurally generated islands that vary in biomes, resources, and dangers. Each island presents unique opportunities and hazards—from lush forests ripe with gatherable materials to eerie, abandoned ruins harboring hidden treasures or hostile creatures. The game’s world design encourages curiosity and experimentation, with players often finding themselves piecing together the lore of the Void through environmental storytelling and scattered clues. This exploratory aspect is enhanced by the gradual unlocking of new technologies and upgrades that expand the train’s capabilities and the player’s toolkit, allowing for more ambitious expeditions and base enhancements.
Crafting and survival mechanics are robust and satisfying, requiring players to gather resources like wood, metal, and mysterious Void matter to build and maintain their train as well as craft tools, weapons, and equipment. The game features a range of crafting recipes and upgrade paths, giving players flexibility in how they develop their setup. Managing hunger, health, and repairs adds layers of strategic decision-making, while the constant threat of hostile creatures and environmental hazards keeps the tension high. Combat is relatively straightforward but effective, focusing on timing and positioning rather than complex mechanics, which complements the broader survival experience without overshadowing exploration and crafting.
Visually, Voidtrain employs a distinct art style that balances stylized realism with a haunting, almost dreamlike quality. The Void itself is depicted as an endless, starry abyss punctuated by floating islands that feel both mysterious and inviting. The train is intricately designed, and its progressive upgrades are visually satisfying, giving a tangible sense of growth and advancement. The atmospheric lighting and ambient sound design further immerse players in the eerie quiet of space, punctuated by occasional creature calls and the steady chug of the train’s engine, enhancing the game’s contemplative mood.
While Voidtrain excels in atmosphere and concept, it is not without its drawbacks. The game’s pacing can sometimes feel uneven, with moments of slow resource grinding interspersed with sudden bursts of intense action or exploration. Some players may find the early game challenging or confusing due to limited guidance and the open-ended nature of objectives. Additionally, the procedural generation, while generally effective in creating variety, occasionally produces repetitive or less engaging island layouts. Technical issues such as occasional bugs or performance hiccups have been reported but seem to be addressed gradually by ongoing updates.
In summary, Voidtrain is a compelling survival crafting game that stands out due to its unique setting and innovative blend of exploration, base building, and procedural world design. Its evocative atmosphere and the ever-present mystery of the Void create a strong draw, encouraging players to push forward and discover what lies beyond the next island. Although it demands patience and adaptability, especially in managing resources and survival, the sense of progression and discovery is deeply rewarding. For those who enjoy atmospheric, exploratory survival games with a twist, Voidtrain offers a fascinating journey through a strange and beautiful void that is well worth embarking upon.

Great gameplay with lots of options to change. They mention having a lot of islands; and while that may be true i found all the stations to look nearly identical with few difference. I wish the stations had more variety and the gun parts were more descriptive, other than that its been great!

I don't recommend at it current state. The game superficial ads length to itself by limiting ammo capacity, inventory slots, and making mobs bullet sponges.
CONS:
The first dozen gates have shown a lack of content. VERY repetitive looking maps with the same script.
Inventory management is terrible. The chests and player inventory have far too few slots. The game provides an unoriginal method of upgrading your slot count as a form of "progression". The amount each upgrade is miniscule.
There is no exploration. You are tethered to your train only able to venture a dozen meters or so. (Dont worry, there is a miniscule upgrade for this as well...) at the end of each gate is a 'cut and paste' depot where you can fight mobs. Very little story or exploration here and very small maps.
Combat is lackluster. Mobs are spongy and unvaried. I'm sure they will get more varied later, but hard mobs in early stages are just boring bullet sponges. (4 clips to the face... so fun!!....)
The grand purpose of the game appears to be driven towards obtaining random weapon parts. There needs to be more options for situational weapons in the early stages. Weapons are built from mobs dropping random parts. The right parts together can make a close quarter weapon, or marksman rifle. This mechanic becomes a con when the player hits an ammo capacity for each type of weapon. It honestly slows the game down when you have to keep going back and forth to the train with full pockets just to see if the parts you brought back are an upgrade, only to find out they are all trash. Building the parts you want out of resources would have be a far more fun mechanic.
PROS:
The player can go from trolly to true locomotive fairly quickly
Very well done crafing and building system.

Initial take is that it's neat for what it is. I like the graphics, I absolutely love the intense music, I like the aesthetic, I find it more fun on the surface than most crafting/survival games. However, it's pretty basic so far, which honestly, I like. I personally am not a fan of the bloated crafting systems a lot of these games have. This one keeps it simple. You get wood, you get chunks of metal, you get organic material. The raw metal gets turned into whatever kind of metal you need, then you make a few very basic components if needed (gears, bolts, screws), then make the object you need. Farming materials happens in a roughly 50-60 foot sphere around the train so there's no getting lost in the wilderness try to get the shiny MacGuffin you need to make a 69th level smelter.
I'm going to catch some flak for this, but I don't really care. Why the hell was the banner retouched with AI? What was the reason? The old banner was just fine, this "new" one looks soulless and fake. This should also be disclosed on the game page and the developer needs to be transparent about AI usage.
