Very beautiful story about the boy who is trying to get rid of the curse and return back home. Dark atmosphere and piano music reminds me Hollow Knight a little bit. Well balanced levels and combat mechanics. Maybe some platformer feeling could be with more tight-control, but still it's good. I would advise this game if you like story-driven dark fantasy close combat platformers :)

The combat is very loose, and the game seems to be missing a lot of sound effects, but I still had so much fun playing through. The art was great, and the general world design fit well, where I always ended up finding a place to explore. The bosses in general were a lot of fun also. The combat could have some extra "juice" to it, since attacking wasnt super satisfying, and 90% of enemies could just be walked past, since their windups are slow enough that you can avoid them. But regardless, I had a ton of fun exploring each new room, and discovering all the secrets. Would recommend!

Has a great gloomy art style. Gameplay was decent, some enemies wind up attacks you can just walk past and ignore. Any death I had seemed to be a mistake I made or just trying to run through a room. Music was okay to me it didn't take away from the game but it didn't add very much for me.

More of a no, then a yes. The game as it is is just... too boring. Bare bones of the "metroid" gameplay. Controls are... okayish. Bosses are ununspiring copies of themselves, attacks are just the same. Ending is a "Congratulations" screen and "you choose to kill a real bad guy" ending. Story can fit into one paragraph of text, and we can count ALL dialogs in game there. I think even for a small indie game - there could be more.

Сочненькая метроидвания про скитания странного существа в не менее странном мире. Странном, но стильном и атмосферном. Есть боссы, есть история, есть пыщь-пыщь эффекты, а чего ещё надо?

The Idea of turning the player character into a monster is nice and definitely was a motivating factor in buying it. The world is interconnected and there are many ways to get around the world which helps. It does metroidvania well enough that new abilities help unlock more of the game world. Otherwise this is a pretty tame entry: unremarkable soundtrack and level design, very easy bosses that can be killed by button mashing and dancing from one side to the next, rarely having to do something else, abilities could be balanced better (the poison breath you get in the early game) is just too good, lack of cutscenes, the levels are often harder just by nature of the game throwing waves of enemies at you, which you can (and probably should) just avoid and waltz to the easy bosses. This game could do with different difficulty levels and a rebalancing of abilities. All in all, it's at best a 5 out of 10. Meh!

Got all achievements and finished game with time played. Pros: -I enjoyed the platforming, abilities, and customization -Low price -The worldbuilding was excellent, and I enjoyed most of the enemy designs. -Thought the story was pretty good, enjoyed that there was a choice at the end Cons: -Game has more than one way to softlock. I received 4, and none of them were the same (1- talked to NPC, 2- map transitioned back and forth, 3- underwater portion disabled up/down and moved insanely fast left/right, 4- attempted to open a locked chest) -Several glitches impacted game enjoyment. Particularly, some death zones would push you into the previous map, respawning all enemies on the current map you were clearing. If there was any elevation in ground geometry, turning around would put your character slightly in the air, making it impossible to -Some areas are not very inspired level design. Tons of enemies in a flat area, guarding nothing. -While there was a good variety in bosses, it felt like most of them were a bit on the easy side. I never lost to a boss, though maybe that's an issue with ability/amulet balance. Overall, I'd say it's worth the price of 5 dollars in its current state. I'd not recommend it if the price were 10+ dollars.

The Guise is a metroidvania in a grim fairy tail setting. You play as an orphan boy who was turned into a monster and now is looking for a way to become human again. Game resembles Hollow Knight in some aspects like heal mechanic and it's good. Controls are responsive. Graphics and sound are nice. I can definitely recommend this game to every metroidvania fan who looks for some quick and not too expensive experience.

A promising concept turns out to be mediocre That headline pretty much sums up my feelings about The Guise. I was interested in the game when I saw the first screenshots as it looked eerie which is something I'm always up to. The premise of playing as a protagonist turning into a monster that kind of evolves as the game progresses sounded great so I picked up the game on sale and gave it a try. Roughly 4 hours later and having beaten the game I can't help but feel the game is lacking in some departments. While the artstyle is pretty well done and delivers a spooky atmosphere the soundtrack on the other hand can't really keep up with it. It's mostly ambient piano sounds that tend to the background rather than being memorable. Even the boss music isn't really dramatic. Which brings me to my main issue - the gameplay To make it clear: I'm generally looking for challenge in the games I play but not every single one needs to be nailbiting hard and The Guise is most definitly on the easy side. I died maybe a handful of times throughout the course of the game but the bossfights were pretty disappointing. Apart from one that caught me by surprise I managed to kill every boss first try without much struggle, even the final boss. Now that of course comes down to personal skill and I'm sure others might have some more trouble but still I think no boss was challenging by any means. Most of the time you can simply roll past them, get a few hits and and then repeat. Which is also the case for the regular enemies. The combat gets dull really fast as all it takes is roll past enemies and hit them from behind until they're dead. Not a lot of skill needed. Actually, you can also simply run past everything and go straight to the bosses if you're not out to grind some currency to upgrade abilities. Speaking of those, only one active ability turned out to be useful, which is the poison spit ability that you get after beating the first boss. It is pretty overpowered and can even be upgraded twice to get 2 respectively 3 shots off at a time, leaving most enemies no chance to survive. Even bosses take massive damage and get half their life or more taken out before you run out of magic energy. Every other ability seems completely redundant and I found no use for them. Same goes for the familiars and amulets. The first ones you get are the most useful, the others don't serve any real purpose. Apart from the main quest you'll also run into some NPC that give you some side objectives but none other than again the first one help too much or add to the experience. One in particular is even broken and repeats on an endless loop. You're tasked to kill rats in a house which is very simply but after exiting the NPC simply tells you to do it again in the basement (which is NOT in the house, unless there's a secret entrance I'm not aware of). After finishing the game with the first ending there were still a couple of sidequests left but I have no desire to go through the game again. It didn't feel satisfying. The Guise has a good concept but fails to deliver a satisfying experience so unless you're looking for a quick metroidlike in between (which it is) get it when it's on sale. In my opinion it's not worth the full asking price.

This game seems to be a nice metroidvania. We play as a boy who was somehow turned into the monster and by collecting abilities we should get back out human form. The art style is unique and great, there are seems to be tons of different strange remarkable characters who make the world of "the Guise" feel alive. Controls are well done and because of this fights with enemies are pretty fun. All in all The Guise seems to be a good game that I could strongly recommend to metroidvanias lovers.
