WAIT...listen: the game is a quick clicker - that's all it is. It has good pixel art and "good" (repettetive) music, but wether you buy this game or not should be judged by answering the question: Do you like clicking things for hours? and : Do you not mind failing hundreds of times until you get good? If yes then get it on sale.

A game which is nicely pixeled and has a good soundtrack and a simple but fun way to let the player enjoy the game. Definitely worth the money. Try it, you wont be disappointed :3

It's a game for people who are extremely bored. If you ever feel that way, you can try and keep clicking to get a better score. Gain coins and buy some new stuff. It would be better suited as a free flash game or on mobile.

The cat starts crying anytime you miss a skill check. Just get better, please. It breaks my heart to see that sweet karate kitty crying.
Focus, timing, and cats
A small score-chaser, Karate Cat is all about timing. Karateka(t) stands above a stand with wooden plank (or sometimes brick) and has to smash the plank by hitting it at the correct time (as shown by a bar moving up and down, showing a target) or, in case of a brick, sweep it aside. Hitting the brick or hitting the plank at the wrong time makes the cat cry (you monster!). Hitting the bar at the right time multiple times in a row as it's going up earns combo and associated bonus points. There's not much more to the game: - You can purchase (with in-game earned currency) more cat models to play. - You can switch the scenery. - You can adjust sound and music volume separately. - You can play windowed mode or fullscreen. I am not sure why some people call it a clicker because at least I could not use clicks; instead, spacebar is for hitting and left-or-right-arrow is for sweeping bricks. There are no key binding options. As a timing game, it's unfortunate that it is locked to 60 FPS. With a 144 Hz monitor, I would have appreciated (though not necessarily expected) support for that and this kind of game would certainly benefit from the added refresh speed. The brick has little point because there's no punishment for pressing left or right repeatedly all the time (aside from getting your fingers tired, haha). If sweeping the wooden plank away could happen and it would mess up combo, it would have been much more challenging. Maybe for a hard mode, this would have been a suitable bonus challenge. But there are no alternate game modes at the time of writing, so score chasing, just passing time (the music is pretty neat), and Steam achievements are the main attraction. Achievements require you to make a successful 50-hit-combo and grind enough money to purchase all cat models. Personally, I took 35 minutes to succeed in the combo and did not have to grind for more fame bucks. Inexpensive enough (personally I even got it on sale for mere €0.35), it's a nice short game to finish while taking a break from bigger games. I'd feel bad giving a negative review to an 89 cent game. And it's cute. So I won't. But I felt someone should tell people what they're getting into here. I found this game by searching steam's games categorized as "clicker". This is not a clicker. No mouse use involved in this game whatsoever. Nothing incremental, no upgrades, nothing like that. What this is... a karate cat stands in front of a board. A bar next to the cat has a line that moves up and down on it. There is a red line somewhere on the bar. If you hit the space key while the moving line is right over the red line, the cat breaks the board, and gets to try to break another one. Otherwise, the cat cries. Real tears. So, you get to see how many boards you can break in a row. That's it. There are other cats in other uniforms you can eventually buy if you break enough boards in a row. I'm pretty sure if you do buy a new cat, the game stays exactly the same. Not hating on this game. But you should know what this is. If timing is really your thing, here it is. And it is kind of cute anyways. 9 minutes before reviewing but I think 900 minutes would tell me the same thing. Maybe some day I'll discover that highly refined timing skills is the secret to life and this game is an under-the-radar gift from the gods. Then I'll come back and play this for hours. Til then... it was fun watching a karate cat cry. And I'm not mean either. I like cats.
