"Rainbow Pixel - Color by Number" isn't a game, it's a color by numbers software application. Before we get into why all video games are software, but not all software is a game, it's important to note the developer stole all the art images used in this paint-by-numbers app from the internet. I guess their entire business model relies on gamers not knowing about reverse image search. Stealing other people's images and not crediting them, then putting those images into a video game (or software) FOR PROFIT is extremely unethical! For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". Nobody ever sat down and did a paint-by-numbers painting, then when they finished, said "What a fun game I just played!". See my point? This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process. Here's a link for the process to publish non-game software on Steam: Steam Developer Help With Software Publishing It's unfortunate this process was not known about/followed, resulting in a software application being published in the wrong place. Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers. There are no gameplay loops in this software, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. It's a software application and as such has no merits as a video game for gamers. Because of this, I cannot recommend this non-game software as a game to gamers. The software contains stock/store assets/libraries/packages, but the "developer" here hasn't credited the people who actually did the work for the software. In some cases, like the HSV Color Picker asset the developers took without credit from github, this breaches the MIT License agreement the developer signed for the use of those assets. The MIT license explicitly requires a copy of the MIT license is provided alongside the software and the developer in this case chose to breach the license, for profit, too. Claiming credit for the work of others as well as breaching software licenses is highly unethical. Gamers should be made aware when a developer behaves unethically and breaches license/copyright agreements, as buying games from unethical developers puts the gamers money at risk. Combine that with all the stolen, uncredited images, and the way the developer keeps copying + pasting the same games onto Steam, and at this point we know we're dealing with a bad actor. "Rainbow Pixel - Color by Number" has the utterly unrealistic price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.

Nice relaxing paint by numbers game. If you want challenge and excitement this is not you. But if you want to unwind after a hard day, this is ideal.

Full disclosure: I got this game on sale for .49 cents USD. The music was nice enough. But although some of the items (which look more like emoji) were fun to color, some were not to my taste. I think I would have completed the game if you didn't have to complete each puzzle to get to the next one, that said, I got over six hours out of it.

The game seemed to be nice but I had a technical problem with it the moment I was about to finish the first level. I wasn't able to paint the last square left but it was as if I completed the level for the game which I did not. From then on forward I couldn´t access to any other level nor was I able to close the game, only retry it with the same problem happening all the time. If there´s any way to fix it besides downloading it again please let me know <3
Positives
+I like that the color switch automatically to the next one when you finish a color. +Level progression is saved when going back to the menu. +Music is surprisingly very good and relaxing for a small game like this! ♫ +You can change the background color.
Observations and suggestions
~It would be nice if the Escape key would close the menu when on a level. ~It would be nice if the music was not reset each time you enter a new level from the selection menu. ~There is a weird glitch when being zoomed in a level and moving around. The bottom tile of the level are disappearing and reappearing when moving around. The top is okay, only the bottom seems glitched. ~It would be nice to have keybinding for the color. If I pressed the key 1, the color one could be selected. ~The UI is very basic. It gets the job done, but it need a lot of refinement and polishing. ~You can see the best score only when you solve an image. It would be nice to see the best score on the selection screen or somewhere else.
Negatives
-When clicking on the first level to do it again from the level selection menu, all hints are still present. I think there should be a boolean setting to know when the player has already seen the tutorial so that it does not pop up again ang again when re-doing the first level. -You have to paint quite slowly, else the painting is not registered. -The undo button only undo the last move. It would be better to have a list of elements to undo instead of just the last one. -The images are poorly design. They doesn't look like pixel art. They are more like small 3D gif. For a game where the purpose is to solve and discover beautiful images, I don't think the choice of image is good enough. -You need to finish the fist image of each category to be able to do the next one. Why not let the player choose? What about unlocking 2 or 3 images each time instead of only the next one? There must be ways to make it more fun to choose. -It would be nice to have achievements. The devs have already answer this on the forum that they do not plan to add any :(. Conclusion The game is actually relaxing. I thing the music is a big part of it! The 2 big downsides are that you have to paint slowly for the paint to register and that the choice of images are not very inspiring or pretty. For those 2 reasons particularly, I don't recommend this game.
