I really enjoyed this. The text speed bothered me at first, but after a while it really helped to set the pacing for the game.

My Experience I was pleasantly surprised by Hope; or How We Survived. I had recently played and mostly enjoyed a game called Zombo Buster Rising, and this game reminded me of it, only with the addition of some dialogue. There are really two parts to the game, and each has its highs and lows. I found the shooting sections to be somewhat challenging and tense, especially the horde section towards the end. However, I would recommend just sticking to the rifle that you start with. It seems to have a balance of power and clip size that is ideal. From what I could tell from trying them out, the clip size on the shotgun is a bit too small and the firepower of the revolver is a bit lacking. The writing was actually quite good during the dialogue sections - the writer has a solid degree of self-awareness and the comments made seemed authentic. Unfortunately, you often can't tell what your guard will say based on the options you're given. You might be given three words to choose between, but each word is then extrapolated into a sentence. There were a few times where I communicated something I didn't really intend. In addition, the noises that the game uses to represent speech are obnoxious. Perhaps the mask worn by the guard muffled his voice, but I felt that the otherwise solid "tone" was compromised a bit through the silly noises. I liked this little "slice-of-life" game. I thought the "rules" of the settlement were a nice touch that made sense given the circumstances. You can indeed imagine a settlement waiting to admit a wanderer with unknown infection status, even if we were talking about a mysterious deadly pathogen instead of a zombie outbreak. Hope attempts to answer the question, "what would happen in the meantime?" Although I'm likely reading too much into the experience, I found it interesting to contemplate while playing the ways that we create boundaries to protect ourselves in relationships. Do we need to know someone's name, interests, or history to care for them? Or is there a basic human decency that exists nonetheless?

Short and sweet, a really nice experience. Would love to see another game by these guys. I will probably play it again to see if there's different endings.

Good game, lovely game, actually. The dialog is nice, the art style is nice, the story is nice, and that's all I can really ask for. Dialog goes at its own pace, what I mean by that is that you can't change it. Of course you can make the dialog show up instantly, however it disappears after a second or two. You should have to click to move on, so you can read completely at your own pace. The grumbles, moans, or whatever they were that the characters kept doing, was extremely annoying, I would've rathered any other sound effect, speaking of sound, no music. The characters feel static, the same animation for the survivor every-day, even for the little cutscene at the end. Gun play is okay, but very simplistic. Long story short, come for the immersive story, not for the gun-play.

I started this game sceptically but it was an amazing experience. It has beautiful Pixelart and great characters. The characters are really realisticly written and the interactions are also very natural. After a coupple minutes i really cared for them. The gameplay was good to switch up between dialogue and the size of enemy waves are changing a lot. There might be a gigantic wave of Zombies coming but sometimes just a single zombie. I think it is interesting that the health bar isnt for you but rather for the survivor and your main goal is to keep him safe. That made me even more focused on not loosing because i dont want to see the survivor character die. Sadly it is a little short but it makes also doesnt drag it out more than it needs to. For the story it set to tell it is the perfect length. The lack of music adds to the atmosphere so i recommend playing it when it is silent and only focusing on the game. The reloading system is unique in my oppinion and adds to the difficulty. It can get quite difficult at the end but it is all manageable. I hope there will be updates and more story lines to this or more games like this one that are maybe a little longer but not dragged out with useless missions and stuff just to make it longer. All together this is a pretty good story game combined with some action from defending against the zombie hordes and experiencing the horror of the apocalypse.
