There's NO reason to ever buy this over the 2nd game.
Now, I want to judge it individually rather than comparing it solely to the later game in the series, so I'll list what I consider to be the good and bad aspects, starting with the good.
POSITIVES

Concept:
The concept itself is pretty nice. The idea has a lot to explore, and you really can do whatever you want, which is the main point of simulators like this.
Freedom:
As briefly mentioned before, there's a lot to do, and a lot you can do. There are many things you can buy and customize. Even outside of your shop, there are activities that, while not necessary, make it feel more complete.
Sadly, the positive aspects are quite limited and often countered by the negatives. I would have mentioned more positives, but the negatives surrounding them simply overwhelm them.
NEGATIVES

Progression:
The game’s progression is basically nonexistent. You can quite literally get the best equipment right away; you’re not at all limited in what you can acquire. While this may sound good at first, it also means that all the variety becomes pointless. If you can get the best from the start, why would you ever bother with worse equipment?
Objects:
Placing objects is an absolute mess. There's no proper clipping, rotation is super slow, and the biggest problem is that anything can just randomly clip through walls and disappear. Items might randomly start bugging out, from destroying your setup to straight-up vanishing. It happens with every object. You can also overlap them to optimize space in absurd ways—it feels terrible.
NPCs:
The way NPCs work is strange, particularly the thief and the homeless characters. You're supposed to hit them so they don’t get into your store. There’s even
a bodyguard to do that for you
. Yet they still randomly get inside. Even worse, if you try to hit them while they’re inside, you might accidentally strike your own customers or, worse, damage your setups. It’s a mess. They end up on the floor being ragdolled; they just don’t work as intended.
Menus:
There’s very little configuration available, and what does exist works poorly. For example, your settings (sensitivity, resolution, volume) aren’t saved, so you have to change them every time you start. You can’t rebind controls at all. It basically barely works, and the default sensitivity is extremely low—far too low for most personal preferences.
Less relevant remarks:
- The store can be way too big, and for what? There’s very little you can actually do in your store, so you will never need all that extra space (apart from the achievement).
- Talking about achievements, why is there no description of them on Steam? Sure, the title might be somewhat self‐explanatory for most of them, but still, why is there no official description?
- The computer menus are unnecessarily overloaded; it just looks bad.
- The food service is absurd. You always have to manually deliver products, if you even get them in time—you're locked to the computer’s animations. The profit quickly becomes negligible. If you’re going to hire a chef, why not hire someone to deliver the food? The chef seems pointless if he’s just your personal food store.
