UltraGoodness 2 Reviews
The struggle between Good and Evil continues in this bloody action, top-down action-roguelike shooter where time moves only when you move or shoot. Tear Satan's forces to pieces, leave oceans of their blood and mountains of demon's corpses in the name of Goodness!

Ultra Goodness 2 brings back the good old chaos into your screen - everything is blowing, flashing, running.
The mechanic of the game is simple and it's easy to understand: player should run from level to level in a company of mind blowing cat and destroy everything that can move. The art style is cute, I loved the design of enemies and all the visual effects. Of cause there could be much more weapons in the game and much more power-ups, but the amount of goodies we can find is still enough - this game doesn't try to be complicated, Ultra Goodness 2 brings to us an enjoyable experience of a small simple and funny game.
Try it if you're in a bad mood and this game makes you laugh again.

My Experience
UltraGoodness 2 is a competently-made top-down shooter (especially considering it was developed by one man), with both charming graphics and responsive controls. The trance-like music is initially appealing as well, but quickly wore out its welcome.
Unfortunately, I became fatigued with the game as a whole after little more than an hour of playtime. The levels are large and uninspired, and do not feel handcrafted though I believe they actually are. They are filled with open spaces, and you'll often find enemies streaming at you from all sides.
The Superhot-esque time mechanic allows you to have a high degree of control over these encounters, but there are still times where you may feel that a projectile has hit you unfairly. Each level takes more time than you'd think to clear, and offers no checkpoints. Therefore, the game can be quite punishing upon failure.
Lastly, the game seemed to have difficulty maintaining the upgrades that I'd purchased from session to session. It often seemed that my character (and cat) would revert to their initial attacks.
I'm a big fan of bullet time in my shooters, but I'd recommend something like Time Recoil or the Hong Kong Massacre instead of UltraGoodness 2.
A Cheap Game and a Great Time
Would you rather watch than read? Me too. Check out the highlights of the gameplay here:

UltraGoodness 2 is an easy game to take a look at. It's fast-paced, has tight controls and will provide hours of entertainment for a very small cost. It's basically everything that you want in an indie game. Basically you just move around the stages as quickly as possible and shoot everything in your path that moves... and some stuff that doesn't. Collect the coins to upgrade or change your shot type (everything from a double shot, to a shot + rocket to a full o laser) and leave no one standing.
In the time that I played it I only had one complaint that kept coming up, and it's fairly minor. I just don't see the need to always have to pick up your coins. It seems like it was added just to force the player to spend more time in each level for no good reason. The coins don't expire or otherwise disappear, so why do we have to run back through and collect them? It's really just a time waster.
Lastly I would just recommend that your first upgrade be the shot that explodes enemies. I started having MUCH more fun with the game once I got that upgrade and started destroying the enemies. It was lovely. Again, for the price of the game you really can't do much better than this game. Get to it!

Good game that continues the original but with better graphics and design. Sucks that my achievements bugged half ways.

Acid Colors, Fast (but slow if you are doing nothing) firefights, crazy cut scenes, not too hard (at least at the beginning) The main downside - my laptop seems to be really hot playing this game, but the game itself runs smooth, so I think it's gonna be an update for VSYNC or something to make my laptop chill

I'm not charmed by this game, nor am I compelled by the lackluster gameplay.
I'm not sure if this is the case, but it FEELS like it was dashed together without a lot of care being put into crafting mechanically-rich gameplay. You just sit there in "time slowdown" mode, then pick off the enemies as they face-rush you. After you beat 99% of a map, you have to traverse the entire thing again to find the one or two foes that are hiding behind trees that you can't see.
It is neither challenging nor fun. I grew bored within the first 10 minutes but decided to put another 1/2 hour of play in, just to make sure I wasn't being unfair before I wrote my review. Beat the 1st boss, made it to the 2nd area and it's just more of the same.
I just don't like this game, and it's really not fun. The graphics are perfunctory, the maps are too large and boring, the repetitive music is annoying AF after the first couple minutes, nothing makes me want to play again.
It seems to be competently made to a degree, but I just can't say to others that they should get this. Even on sale, there's not a lot of fun to be had for the purchase price. I wanted to like it, but I just find it stale and derivative.
Anything past 45 minutes playtime shown on Steam will be idling the game for the trading cards. (edit: after letting the game run in the background to bring my displayed playtime to 3 hours, I found out there's no trading cards. I got 45 minutes of totally unsatisfying game play then I had it running in the BG for the rest)
This game ain't fun.

Yes - but only at discount. My time played reflects how long it took to complete the game.
It's a top-down "bullet-time" 2d shooter. Not overly complex, you can open it up, play a few levels, and put it down - without needing to remember where you are or what you were doing. Shooters like this are fun if this is your type of game. For a 1-man dev. team, absolutely fine for what it is and if priced lower or on discount. It is definitely a quick hit game, with no real replay value (unless achievement hunting - maybe if you just want to zap things).

So I managed to beat the first boss and am enjoying the game so far.
Pros:

Graphics are nice, especially the VFX.

Controls feel tight.

Superhot-like mechanics work well in the overall gameplay flow.

Low price.
Cons:

Music gets repetitive very fast.

Game feels very short. Guess that I'll manage to beat it under 2-3 hours.
