Even though I've only played 10 or so hours on this game, I think I'm going to play for 100 more. Seriously. For the last couple of weeks or maybe even months I've been looking for a game to just be able to sit down and call my own, not to worry about the overall story, or that I'm doing something wrong while playing, and I'll be honest. At the start of my search I did see this game, reviews were good, but I looked for other non paid options. After all that time last night i decided to buy the game because i picked up an extra shift at work the previous week. It was 2am when it finished downloading, and I was able to play for an hour before i needed to sleep. But by the end of that one hour i knew I had found what i was looking for. While this game isn't finished or without faults, it has so much character that makes it addictive to play.
The Greats: Oh my goodness, this game has the most satisfying movement in a game where it really doesn't need it. I thought that the charge up for the massive dash would be annoying, but using it wisely while moving around makes it just that little bit more satisfying. Zooming, Dashing, zoom jumping, super jumping, drifting, there's so much to learn, and it's all fantastic.
Building: All of the buildings feel like they fit so well together. All the different shapes give amazing looks when paired with a different building, or even when flipped and placed beside each other, the ability to open your map and place things from a birds eye view is impeccable, its inherent that the people involved in making this game were very thoughtful when they placed all these features into the game at such an early stage. The pavement dragging is genius and a MASSIVE time saver! The main feature I love is picking up buildings. As you eventually find out, some buildings have a radius to where they gather, being able to literally pick up and put down your buildings from day one is such a nice thing to have.
Combat: The combat system is a little clunky to start, but there's different attacks that come with each type of movement (after a dodge, while zoom jumping, etc), it also took me a second to realise that different weapons hurt different object more than others, but after a while you start learn and chain everything together. I used to see taking out enemies as something dangerous, but now it's just fun.
The animation and sound designers did superbly too, the artstyle is beautiful and matches the vibe of the game COMPLETELY. The noises from swinging the sword, to the buzz on the lights really helps the atmosphere of the game come alight. There's so much detail in this game. About literally an hour ago I found out that there was water that you could swim in, then I accidentally zoomed on the water to find myself parting the river like Moses. The animation where the main character dolphin dives out of the water almost made me spit mine out. It's hilarious. This game is truly so charming in all the right ways.
As this game is in early access there's bound to be issues eventually, and I have some feedback too. In no way am I putting the game down, I truly adore it, I just thought that i should raise my feedback in my review.
The obvious lack of guidance in this game is apparent. you truly have to learn the best features of the game yourself. But from what I can tell the devs are working on this. A simple fix would be some sort of tutorial video that you play alongside like satisfactory.
Enemy Camps: The amount of times it hits morning and I find 3 or 4 different camps by the outlaws setup is SO annoying. Sometimes I find myself spending half my day breaking down those camps by hand. I don't really like leaving them up because I don't want my town being mortared to death, but I don't think this happened at the start of the game so it might just be a me thing cause admittedly I don't know exactly how they work. if it wasn't, my suggestion would be: develop the camps randomly once during the season. They would then launch an attack the same night, so while you don't have to go after the camps right away, you would have to take them out. Alternatively, over the season the camps develop into the massive larger camps with the mortar, then they launch an invasion the following day. This lets the player get away with ignoring the camps if they were in a far away spot, but if they weren't dealt with, it's a massive gut punch.
The hogs: oh my lord they are hard to deal with when you don't know what you're doing. I literally wiped 3-5 times during my first encounter. An alternative to this would be to introduce 2-3 of the small golden looking pigs, then have one big hog, and buff this hog's health a little. Orrrrrr just get gud lol.
Farming animals: The farming animals in this game are cute... until they're not. I find them sometimes annoying when they run rampant in my town. The obvious answer would be to fence the sheep up. but then they mutate because your villagers can't access them. My current idea for my town is to make a GIANT area specifically for farming that includes the villagers inside the fence. But a suggestion to the developers is a fence gate. or a warning that your sheep is about to mutate.
The map: the map is so cluttered, and when you're looking for something it would really help if i could sort between what i'm looking for (buildings, enemies, people, resources, and all).
Not having easy access to multi layered buildings: You may find it difficult to build anything with a hand crafted roof. I wanted to make my own huge castle but was sad to find out I couldn't put a roof of stone on anything without filling in everything below. (unless I'm just blind lol). It's a little sad but not that much of an issue.
Performance issues: when I first started my game was a solid 120 fps, but now it's about 60-40. I'm assuming it's because I have built the town up, but it's not an issue with my pc because I just turn settings to high or medium and it's fine, but at the start of a day when everything updates the whole world freezes for a tiny second, and then my fps drops until the world is finished growing. not sure if this is fixable though.
Tiny bugs: there's bugs that you don't even notice, like the villagers fall through the ground and jump back up which is just funny. These things are probs going to be fixed with time.
The devs really seem to be close to the community and the game,. so I'm assuming this game will become even greater than it is now. I truly see it having more success. And it should have more success.
P.S please give me more decorations. I need them. give us a water fountain that's 4x4 or 5x5 that i can put where my well is right now. I would kill for this. PLEASEEEEEE

In a game where a little goes a long way, this game really made a little into an absolute blast. A massive thankyou to all people involved in making such a great game.
TLDR: Love this game. Please buy.
