Novel transport game with some clever ideas that could really use your support for further development!

Nice little game ! No real objectives. Just make tracks. Link resources to what wants them. And that's all !

This is a really great foundation for a game. And as much as have enjoyed it, I feel that there could be more. I'm hoping this is an early release and the devs have more planned.

I'm recommending this game because I think it has a lot of promise and I would like to see it developed further. However it won't be developed further unless it has more sales. If it only gets negative reviews then it won't sell.
Potential buyers should be aware that this game should be regarded as being in Early Access even though it's not marked as such.
It looks to me like Transport Tycoon crossed with Super Mario Galaxy, and I'm still hopeful that it could become that!

Hexa Trains is an interesting and relaxing indie game which you can play through in a few hours. Controls and graphics are not on AAA level, but on the other hand this game allows you to explore an original gameplay concept.
Interesting Concept
You get a planet (+moon) with fixed buildings on it, and have to build tracks and deploy trains in order to connect the buildings and grow the planets economy. There's no concept of money in this game - tracks and trains are free, and your economy doesn't grant you any currency to spend. Instead you get a score for your productivity level.
Personally I don't know any game with a similar concept, so I found Hexa Trains quite interesting to explore.
Relaxed
There are no enemies, time pressure, or even currencies to run out of. You can not loose in this game, and that makes it super relaxed. If you are looking for a challenge, you can still try to reach a high score.
Easy Leaderboard
It's easy to get a top ranking on the leaderboard if that's your kind of thing, because there's no noteworthy competition (yet?). In fact I got to 1st place on the leaderboard in my second round of Hexa Trains. If you want some tips, I distilled my experience into a guide here.
Easy Achievements
It's also easy to complete all achievements in a few hours. If you need help on the looping achievement, the Steam discussions have you covered.

This felt like a prototype with programmer art put for sale on the store page, with the promise of it being worked on, yet never updated due to poor sales (check the forums).
Sadly, dead in the water, and cannot recommend it.

This game has the makings of something interesting and fun, but it seems like it was released long before it was finished. You can build trains, you can see graphs of goods being transported, but it's all pointless. There's no real economy to speak of, no money or cost, no goals. The most challenging thing you can do seems to be to get Moon Crystals to the university, and then you do that and nothing happens except that a number in the university info increases. Nothing else. No purpose.
Also, lots of things are just blatantly incomplete. The interface shows debug information, if trains get stuck you can't delete them, the music is a low quality MIDI loop, etc etc.
This is a promising prototype for what could become a great game. Except that it was left at that stage and never completed.

This is a nice prototype that shows potential, but this is not a game. In under an hour I got to see everything it has to offer (what is left is maybe another hour of grind to get all achievements). This hour was mildly entertaining in terms of learning the mechanics, but this is pretty much the only kind of entertainment Hexa Trains can offer.
You build train paths from mines to factories to other factories, and you schedule the trains going along these paths. You are not constrained on resources for your paths or trains. You are not constrained on time. You are not constrained on space. You have no goals. You can go anywhere, you can do anything. And you expect there to be some purpose for it all, but there just isn't any. So in the end, Hexa Trains is an okay metaphor for life, but a bad game.
The developer has stated in forums that they will not be working on this any further, so I absolutely discourage anyone from spending money on this, as this is nowhere near a finished game, and looks like it never will be. And that's a pity.

Do you like trains? Do you like optimizing networks and making trend lines go up? Did you wish Mini Metro was also a simple, Euro-boardgamey economic simulation? Do you appreciate an unusual level of fidelity in orbital mechanics?
Get this game.
