When started out playing the game it appeared different from other similar games, which was a good thing. However, soon after, it became very repetitive and the levels are way too long to complete. One has the option to save at any point, but now I was half way through the game when I wanted to continue the game when it asked me to set up a new profile after erasing my old one which would have meant to restart the game again and hours of play time and awards are lost. I would not really recommend this game.

Same quirky humor as the first one. Same type of match-3 with power ups and hidden areas, etc. But has the excellent new feature of being able to save your progress in the middle of a level, because they often take quite a while to clear and sometimes you just can't do it all in one sitting.
If you liked the first one I see no reason why you wouldn't like this one. It's repetitive but in a way I find relaxing rather than annoying. Truly the only thing I dislike is the "pick lock" puzzle, but it's not so irritating as to make me dislike the game as a whole.

Two words: More time-consuming. An extra word from the previous review Runefall.
It's not saying the game is not enjoyable, but when you keep playing with countless locations on the map, you wish this game would end sooner. Besides numerous areas, each level is tedious and takes more than 10 minutes to explore the entire map.
This second game is definitely more challenging than the first one. Thanks for the useful comments in the discussion post, which helped me to finish the game.

Essentially the same game as the first Runefall, but some things are different. Once you get used to those differences, I think it's a good game. You don't need to have played the first one to enjoy this one. There's a good story line and the map is different than other match 3 games, as the display moves when you make matches. There are also mini-games between some areas. The game is time consuming, but unlike the first Runefall, you can save mid-level. I definitely recommend this one.

It's super tedious with levels that are way too long. Add to that the need to go pixel hunting for 100% map completion, nonsense.

Do you love match 3 games?
Do you hate how money grabbing Candy Crush is?
if yes, then this is a cool game for you, however, there's some problem,
1) Clearing n reaching for 100% on a map can take a lot of time, but your progression are saved if you need a break or do something else
2) There's no "City "Rebuilding" like the last one...guess that was ok
3) NGL, i don't like the RNG in this game that are tide to achievements
FYI , don't worry about the CE campaign if you're looking for completion on the achivements, it's included
A "wait for sale"
"There's some bugs...etc, even I tried completing Level 13 (100%) multiple times....it won't show the bage"

FunMatch-3 game!
Pro:
* Moving the map by matching the blocks
* Quite relaxing if played without time limit but challenging if playing with the time limit
* Characters are hilarious
Con:
Sometimes smaller levels would be nice. It gets quite addicting because you just want to do finish a map, but they are so large.
Update:
The developer fixed the problem I had (noted below) that caused me to downvote the game. So, I'm changing my rating to Recommended.
Description:
If you've played the original "Runefall," you know exactly what to expect with this sequel, "Runefall 2." If you haven't played the original, let me quote from my review of the first game:
"... is just a tad different from most Match 3 games in that you explore the map (which spans multiple screens) with your matches. Every match slowly scootches the screen over in the direction where you made the match and you use this movement to clear the map and find tiles, chests, and runes to clear, open, or pick up. Because of that, it's much slower (assuming you're playing without the timer) than a standard Match 3."
[strike]Unfortunately, I'm going to have to Not Recommend "Runefall 2" in its current state.[/strike] EDIT: With the recent patch, I'm now Recommending the game. But, let me start with the positives:
Positives:

The developer has fixed every issue I had with the first game.

The story is well done, cute and amusing.

The voice acting is excellent.

The price/hour ratio is great. I'm halfway through the game at 33.4 hours. So, even at its current list price of almost $10, it's fiscally worth it.

Preference:
This might seem a bit silly, but I wish the levels (maps) were smaller. They seem to take about 2 hours (or more) for each map. I've played entire games on Steam which took less time to play than an individual map does in this game.
Negative:
EDIT: My complaint has been fixed! [strike]The game currently suffers from a bug where it can fail to register that you've fully completed a level even though the map looks like you've covered everything and all the statistics on the map page say you've found everything. In the couple of maps where this happened to me before the point where I'm quitting, I could work around the issue by taking a screenshot of the map, opening it in a photo viewer, maximizing the window, zooming all the way in on the image, and scrolling around the map looking for a missing piece of the border or a missing tile (even though the game says I've cleared all of them). But, with my current map, I can find nothing missing and don't see any difference between my map and another person's. If it weren't for the Achievements, I could probably live with this. But, there's an Achievement ("A Deed Indeed") to "earn every badge" (which basically means to fully complete each of the 48 maps (I'm at 24). And, since I can't convince the game that I've actually completed my current map, I can't get my badge for it and won't be able to get the Achievement.[/strike]
Summary:
EDIT: Recommended. [strike]So, in its current state, I've got to Not Recommend the game and am stopping playing. The developers have stated that they're working on fixing the issue and they were highly responsive in the earlier game. So, I'm holding out hope that a patch will happen and I'll be able to finish the game. If that happens, I'll revisit this review.[/strike]
EDIT 1 (Semi-Final): I finished the base game with 100% Achievements at 63.4 hours. Really nice game and well worth the price.
EDIT 2 (Final): I've finished the addition Finnerick's Quest from the Collector's Edition. That took me an additional 32.4 hours (bringing my total to 94.8 hours). It plays exactly like the main game plays, so no surprises there. Again, my only complaint with the game is that the individual maps are just too long.

65 hours.
While not a totally unenjoyable game- a blend of narrative-driven RPG + Match 3 game with some thankfully skippable boring puzzles thrown in (you can skip them by paying gold from your resource collections)- it does become tedious the further you go. The story? Like a romantic novel written by a 13 year old boy trying to impress his very first ever crush. Base game done, one more game checked off of the backlog. The CE (Collector's Edition) bonus campaign and the timed levels can wait for a bit. I need a long break from this one to decide f I even want to bother coming back to it to try to 100% it.
I will recommend it, but highly recommend getting it in a cheap bundle somewhere or here on Steam at a deep discount.

Tedious. This is what it feels like to play Runefall 2.
First of all this is a level pack for the first game plus some QOL improvements. Sadly the most needed QOL improvement (being able to save a level and come back to it later) is broken. So you are stuck with playing 30 minute plus levels in one sitting. Since you only unlock new specials and the tiles are always the same it gets dull quick.
Also the cutscenes between the levels got a lot more lengthy and you have to either sit through a three minute plus dialogue or skip it completely.
It's not a bad game, but it certainly feels like quantity over quality. If you are really into match three games it's fine to grab it at a deep discount, otherwise I wouldn't recommend to get it.
