The story was good and I liked the mini-games, but I thought the hidden objects were a little too well hidden sometimes. Then, I got almost to the end and I couldn't get out of the deduction board screen.

How can a point-and-click game runs at 12 fps in my laptop that can run GTA V at 40 fps?

Listen to Sherlock Holmes Stories & play some other proper detective games but in no case play this game. It's the same old keep clicking an image for some stuff to happen and honestly there are better ways to spend your time.

'tis horrible. Once from a technical standpoint, though that doesn't detract from the gameplay, except for some interactions blocking the UI, to my great annoyance. The greater is the number of baffling design choices. The hidden objects are impossible to find, as other reviews also point out. Real pixel hunting. Low-res desaturated objects on low-res desaturated backgrounds. And I have a good monitor. I don't even want to think about what this game would've looked like back when it was released. The dialogue auto-progresses. There is no option to disable this. There is also no way to re-read dialogue. That's terrible for a story-focused game. The typeface used for witness testimonies is readable, but sufficiently difficult to deter me from trying. There is also no centralised way to view evidence. You have to go to Scotland Yard to re-read testimonies. You have to go to Baker's street to connect evidence in the deduction board. Deductions already made cannot be easily viewed. All this makes it pretty much impossible to engage with the mystery without taking external notes. The puzzles are nice. So is the art. I bought this game as part of a 4 euro bundle with 5 other Sherlock games. I think the bundle was worth it, overall. But I would not have played this for free if not for wanting to complete that bundle.

My rating: 5/10 (neutral). This game will appeal to a niche category of gamers. "Persian Carpet" offers a commendable variety of puzzles and that's the game's strongest feature. The overarching gameplay goes like this: the player has to find clues in scenes to unlock puzzles; solve those puzzles to reveal more clues; process those clues into evidence at 221 Baker Street to add to Holmes' deduction board; and match the evidence to gain access to the next scene. However, finding the connections between the evidence is the most ambiguous and frustrating part of the game. I never fully understood the logic of the deduction board, and throughout most of the game I randomly paired items until the game rewarded me with matches. Unfortunately, each visit to the deduction board requires a predetermined number of connections before Holmes can advance to the next level and continue the investigation. Equally frustrating is the 'pixel hunting' mechanic of finding clues in each scene. The player is shown silhouettes of objects to find. Some are easy to spot while others are nearly impossible to see. Some clues are revealed only through interactions with the scene, like rolling back a carpet, prying open a box or repairing an object. The story and its expanding list of suspects is confusing to follow; but ultimately Sherlock Holmes provides the solution after all the clues are found and matched. The mystery's reveal is adequate but not particularly rewarding after hours of tedious mouse clicking. A professional review of the game notes: "By the time I fingered the culprit at game’s end, all I really felt like I’d solved was the interface, not a mystery." "Persian Carpet" was included in a bundle of Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games I bought during a Steam sale. I thought from the screenshots that it was the earliest game in the collection; however, it is actually a mid-franchise branch off the main Sherlock Holmes series as a different kind of game designed for the casual market. It feels like Windows game from 1995 instead of 2008.

Point & click with some puzzles. The game is a bit outdated. No major bugs while playing. Some clues are too hard to see, but there is an in-game hint system even in the hardest difficulty that can help in these cases. It took me 3h. I don't recommend purchasing it at full price. Buy it with a good discount if you like old point & click games and the Sherlock Holmes cases
